  1. We all are or should be pleased he is doing well. One of those players that we have an affinity for. Just a general good lad. Would rather have Moult and Skippy, but that does not detract from my joy at him scoring winner tonite. He might not shag all the birds, but he scores some vital goals
  2. If out of contract players and senior ones at that have been offered lesser terms, you do wonder how motivated they will be on a midweek trip up to Dingwall. Despite the sizeable achievement of finishing in the top half, it would be hugely disappointing and costly to have been in 4th and drop to 6th. Would settle for 5th. If for nothing else it would still p1ss me off finishing 4th and there being no Euro place.
  3. Quite agree. Although it could have come from one of the players to a fellow player, friend, journo. Not necessarily someone from the club. Either way I strongly agree we need to cut our cloth accordingly and if that means wage cuts for out of contract players, then so be it. Certainly be interested to see what happens. You would think that players will weigh up their options, but realistically no club outside top flight would probably match even reduced terms.
  4. My point is based on the not unreasonable expectation that the club simply could not afford to risk it. Say someone or a few did manage to still get on the pitch. We may well have a strong argument based on hordes of stewards and netting to state we did everything in our power to stop it from happening. But would you put it beyond the SPFL to still not impose a fine or further sanctions. I would not. Thankfully it never became an issue.
  5. Simply disagree. The facts are the club had little choice. I suspect that had even 1 fan stepped onto the pitch the authorities would have thrown the book at us. That has nothing to do with disrespect to us. Nothing. Everything to do with avoiding a huge fine and further scrutiny going forwards. I absolutely agree that were it not Rangers we beat when the fans came on, there would have been a whole lot less made of it. Also did not help when that halfwit punched and kicked Erwin. It was a poor performance and I also feel like some we should have played a more solid foundation against an always solid St Johnstone. Hard to argue with the fact the players and Manager have done a very good job getting into top 6 - but quite a few let us down today. With that and the stewarding at the end, not surprising to see so few fans stay behind. I did but in truth it was only because one of my friends did. Hopefully we can get a result on Wednesday, even a draw would probably secure 5th. Which looking back would represent a good season after the start we had under previous Manager.
  6. Wish I had read that post. Lasley off as well
  7. According to BBC we have had 65% possession yet are 2-0 down. I take the blame as I rarely bet and yet saw 11/8 for Motherwell win or draw. Thought with our form we could at least get a draw. That is why I rarely bet .....
  8. Very sad Dave you even have to suggest that. Over the years Motherwell FC has been appalling in its customer care. There are a handful of people at the club who you know will more often than not take care of enquiries in a timely and professional manner. Sadly there are many who do not. I am not going to be in charge of the club any time soon, but I simply would not tolerate it. The club should have KPI's of a maximum 24 hours to respond to any enquiries that would bring in revenue, be it a season ticket request or something more substantial. Quite simply I have never understood how no-one could get to grips with the this. Not even Les by all accounts. I shudder to think how much money we have lost over the years. Rant over - but at a time when season ticket prices have gone up. You Q whether they need to if we got every penny that people would give gladly give to the club if they had not given up due to lack of responses or lateness or lack of negotiation nous. I will take my season ticket - as an increase is not unexpected and less hassle each week.
  9. Would be disappointing, but not at all surprising. Let's wait and see before rushing to judge. Paul Slane should be used each and every time... That said Ben Hall seems a bit more sensible, so he will no doubt go on to have a decent career either way. Hope he sees a couple more years at Fir Park as good career development.
  10. This. Can only assume previous poster did not buy puma tops. As smooth as sandpaper..... Not saying the design is that much better, but the quality of material is way better than cheap ish puma fobbed off on us. Only decent top was 125 year we wore v Leeds if I recall
  11. Lot of old buggers on here.....Me also I might add... My 1st game was Jan 1976 beating Hearts 2-0. A Pettigrew double. My 1st Well hero. All I remember was how cold I was.
  12. The only good thing is it is less painful than us actually finishing 4th and then Celtic blowing it - in the final. Oh well, fairly relaxed and less stressful end to the season - try and finish 4th and get a few extra pennies.
  13. If it is the choice of having a club to support or hurting some feelings then I know what I would choose. We simply do not have the luxury to not try and finish 4th and in Europe. Every penny is quite literally a prisoner.
  14. So we are top 6 which is a fantastic achievement given where we were 2 months ago. No-one really saw this coming not least Dundee, Inverness or Partick fans all of whom would have fancied their team over ours. No we await the post split fixtures and fight for a 4th spot that will bring in extra money and potentially a place in Europa league should Celtic not screw up the Scottish cup - which is sadly not beyond them ! St Johnstone appear to be in freefall, yet have the better of us in the 2 ties up in Perth. Which should help us assuming they come to Fir Park. Ross County may well be our real threat for 4th. By my reckoning we have played Aberdeen, Celtic, and Ross County at home twice and St J and Hearts away twice,so expect us to play St J and Hearts at home and the rest away. That would also give us equal amount of home and away games. It is tough to take many points in top 6, so would think 2 wins and draw would be more than enough and would mean St J and Ross C would need to win 3 games out of 5. If the 2 wins come against St Johnstone and Ross County even better.. Thoughts ?
  15. You are probably right Dave, but we have a full compliment of 9 in our group heading through from Edinburgh Facts are - we have won 5 on the bounce and now (after tonight's results) could do with at least a point to be sure of top 6. Even against Celtic I would hope it might persuade a few more to turn up and get behind the lads. They deserve it. But you are probably right....
  16. Like most it would have been good for it to have been confirmed tonight. That said at least it helps us maintain focus for the Celtic game. No bad thing in my opinion. If it is true and we cannot finish bottom 2 then a hell of a lot better than 7 weeks or so ago.
  17. I am heading along too. It is the expectancy that is the worry. We tend get a result off Celtic when we least expect to. The media will build this up as we have won 5 on the bounce... Would be nice to have a decent support, but looks like a few missing judging by this thread. Shame.
  18. No doubt Celtic will conspire to fuck it up for us.... I seem to remember we were in pole position for Europe a number of seasons ago, only for them to blow the title up at Inverness and with it our European hopes.... Let's do them next week.
  19. Agreed Mio - I know it is against them but we have a free go now. Hopefully some sunshine and a good turnout and a point or 3. Boy did I enjoy that. I was (probably like most) expecting us to concede, so v good for it to be us. Almost makes up for the Cup game. 5 wins on the bounce. Well done McGhee and the lads and supporters who travelled
  20. Bang on the money for Texan Laing still injured I presume and Hall too or on the bench ? Edit to add - he was not bang on the money as Law is in and Hall not ! Time I went to Specsavers.......
  21. With Dundee winning comfortably then we need to win this game in order to keep up hopes for top 6. We could beat Celtic or even a draw but chances are they will be very tough to beat. As for talking Europe. Unlikely.
  22. McGhee has taken some stick on this board. I was content to see him return. No doubting he is an egomaniac who often puts his foot in it, but no doubting he deserves credit for 5 wins from 6. Today was so enjoyable. Thought we were not great but Aberdeen were poor. Louis Moult. What can you say. Real man love. All the players deserve credit. Wish a few more fans would back the team. Top 6 would b great and 4th would be unbelievable. Need another 3 probably 4 points to seal it. Back to my Whisky...........
  23. This backs up my theory that Les H wanted to help out but NEVER had any serious intentions of being a benefactor for ever more and a day. Even a supposed Billionaire would get tired of dipping his hands in his pocket. I believe he believed the Well Society would work, but most on here, myself included do not believe we have the fan base to achieve it. This is very worrying. If he has not written off the debt then God knows how we will repay it and keep the club running on a day to day basis. Serious cut backs on the playing side are probably inevitable. We should always have been budgeting for 10th and knocked out of cups in 1st round. Yet we always budgeted for top 6 and going far in cup + player sales. Not sustainable. A lot of people have put a lot of money towards Well Society. Being asked to do so repeatedly is not a wise business model. Motherwell need a wealthy benefactor. Sadly he has decided to do one.
  24. It has all the makings of a good game. Really looking forward to it. They ought to bring a decent support and hopefully we will also given 3 wins in 4. Yes they have had a decent run of late, but so have we and we are at home, so I am confident we can avoid defeat and a win really would cement our chances of avoiding the play off spot. Still think top 6 is out of reach as we would need to win v Celtic or Aberdeen at home. Not impossible but improbable.
  25. Echo that - skippy was brilliant today. His set up for the 2nd was class. Was surprised at how poor Thistle were, pleasantly so. Would have liked a clean sheet, but that was more like it. We seem a capable team when we want to be and perhaps the opposition allow us to be. I have been suitably impressed by Cadden and Hall. Both youngsters but performing ably in the 1st team and certainly not looking out of place. Moult. 2 goals and worked his wee Arsenal off as usual. 15 goals. After a mini slump he is back with a vengeance. And WHAT - no late goal by us.....
