I was hoping someone on the charter flight would let us know who was not on the plane.....
-
The big Q is - who will Mccall choose to leave behind. He said after the Hibs match he will leave 3 or 4 1st team players behind. And who will start in their place? I will go for Lasley (Carswell), Ramsden(Kerr), Faddy (even though he needs games) + Sutton (McHugh or Anier)

OR you were not attending matches You and Big Pie have to be the biggest jinxes out there

Might have been close to 3000 were it a Saturday. No way will there be that many for a Sunday. I reckon between 1200 and 1800 - which is still a decent support and 1000 more fans than we would take up to Pittodire

I know we have a Euro tie before this game but...... According to some of the quotes I have seen - they are coming down to Fir Park to show us and the rest of the league they are the real deal. Never had anything against Aberdeen, but developed a pathological dislike to them whilst McGhee and Paw Broon were there. They do look to have a strong squad and more potent than ourselves at the moment. This is already a HUGE game and it would give me great joy were we to beat them and send them and their fans back up the road with a reality check. Hopefully our fans turn up in numbers for our 1st home game as I beleive they may well bring their largest travelling support for a league game in some time.... MON THE WELL

Could not have put it better myself... At times last season we seemed very easy to breach as a defence. This year already we look more solid with Lawson and McManus added. I though both Hutch and McManus were immense. McManus looks a class apart and deservedly got MOTM. The issue is we have no outlet. Both Ramsden and Hammell get the ball and they have to pass square all the time. That changed when ZFA came on. Thought Sutton, McHugh, Faddy and Vigurs struggled a bit today. Vigurs is clearly a talented footballer, but he needlessley gave the ball away a few times and stronger more potent teams will punish us. Still early days and pleased for Anier getting off the mark. 3 points on the opening game of the season - does not happen that often - so going to enjoy it. The Well Bois were top drawer again and the celebrations at the goal were hugely enjoyable for all at the game :yahoo: :yahoo:

I would be happier with a good performance and 3 points. Hibs confidence is fragile and they are missing an entire defence. Usually means we will find the going tough.... Still worry where the goals will come from. Hopefully we will play with 2 forwards. Sutton and McHugh or Anier

Well it has only taken Randolph 11 minutes to pick the ball out of his own net for Birmingham.....
-
I saw that about Hollis and Gunnar. To be fair Hollis did little wrong the other night. But....I would have thought the idea in replacing Randolph would be to get a number 1 who was/is better than Hollis. Either Hollis has raised his game, now he knows there is a real chance of being numero uno or the club have made a booboo with Gunnar....... Time will tell on this one, but looks like we are going with Hollis until he makes a mess of things. I just want the best man between the sticks and if that is Hollis then I am happy with that.

I said imho... They were only the lowest seeds based on the fact they had not played in Europe before. Does not change my view that they were an extremely tough draw and tougher than quite a few seeded teams above them.. That is why again - it was a sh1tey draw from the moment it was made I mean Seville, Stuttgart and even Swansea would have beaten us handsomely, but at least they would have brought more than 40 fans and we could and would have got a possible TV deal with all those teams and made some money.... That is me done on this subject - bring on the Hobos

I have not researched this fact, but have heard it often enough to believe it is true. Kuban are a side that have not lost a league game since last NOVEMBER. They are not playing in the 3rd Division, but the top flight in Russia! They have supposedly not lost a home game in over a year. They just sold a player for £8m. Their squad is worth £50m... All these - if only we had gone for it...why did we not attack more..why can we not do a St Johnstone....I mean FFS We played our 1st competitive game with largely a brand new team. We got a little lucky and a little unlucky instages last night, but I was not at all surprised by how things played out. We need to get back to finishing 3rd or 4th so we start out as a seeded team and get a few rounds in. It was a bad draw against an unheard of team, but certainly imho one of the strongest seeds we could have got.... Back to League business thank christ..

UBH. To an extent I don't disagree with what you are saying. I am happy for Saints, but by the sound of things enjoyed a fair amount of luck in the 2 ties v Rosenberg. Plus being a Nordic side, their style is more like our UK style. Good luck to them and I hope they get through to the play off round. But I would happily bet my house on Levante, Pana and Kuban taking all SPL teams to the cleaners apart from maybe Celtic. We have a new team that have not played a competitive game before last night. I expected what happened, I only hoped it would not. My concern for the new season is our lack of pace and whether Sutton and our strikers will get many goals.

On the waccy baccy more like. Obviously never read my post where they had not lost in their last 15 games.... I hope we do not get gubbed, but no way will we win 4-1 or by 3 clear goals...
-
Plus - How is he going to get fitter, not by having him in the dugout. He will be blowing out his arse after 10 minutes, but he is still capable of a moment of brilliance and that is why he will start. I cannot see us not conceding. I will go for a 1-1 or 2-1 narrow defeat. Anything better would be braw. But this team have not lost in 15 league games and have played a lot better sides than Motherwell..
-
Neilson Ramsden Hutchison McManus Hammell Lawson Lasley Vigurs McFadden Sutton Angol That is the team for me and probably our 1st choice line up this season. I hope ZFA gets the nod over Carswell. I like Carswell but ZFA is more likely to create. That said there is usually at least 1 surprise and I just wonder if someone on this thread might be eating a pile of poo come 19:45 tomorrow evening Not sure if McCall is clear who is 1st choice keeper - even if we all seem to agree on here
-
Doubt it. I heard 5000 as of lunchtime.. Suggests we will be lucky to see 6000 come KO.. I thought between 7-8000 - need to revise that down to between 6-7000..
-
I hope you are bringing the flag with you on Thursday. Will be in the Electric bar from about 4pm if you are around. Then off to hospitality ....
-
Getting your excuses in early..... You lost 3 main players...we lost 7 including 3 who were voted into the SPL League team of the year. Your squad is worth 50m Euros - ours is worth 4m Euros..... We will need to play very well, hope Kuban do not and get a decent slice of luck along the way. Very rare all 3 of these things happen, but who knows...

As long as we don't concede a free kick outside the box at the Cooper end. Only for the ball to sail into the net with no-one touching it I make 2 possibly 3 games where that has happened - almost like a Fir Park Europe Groundhog day.
-
To be fair they were 1-0 up from the away leg and so had a reasonable chance of going through. I think for the Turkish mob they got bang on 6000/ Although to be fair that is not a bad crowd compared to their normal I stated before and hold on to my view that we should get a crowd of between 7-8000. Were it a glamour tie like Seville or Swansea (if that is indeed glamorous) we would have had over 10,000.
-
He never struck me as being the brightest....but he is an EX player and the only exception I make here is unlike Higgy, Humphrey, Randolph and Henrik I hope he does not go on to have a good season. The problem we have, as we are seeing today is the wankfest from the media and Rangers fans when he turns out to be a very good player, which we all knew already. So he should be in the 2nd division...
-
I was not at the game, but it appears from comments/twitters he made a number of good saves. So I am surprised to read the comments above. I hope and pray that Gunnar is better than Hollis, otherwise we are going to drop more points this season than previous ones with Ruddy and Randolph in between the sticks.

I have been saying this for a while regarding quality of material. The Canterbury and even the Bukta home top was a smoother much better quality of material. The Puma tops feel like cheap sh1te. I still get the tops - one a season, because I like to support the team and like the latest top, even if I am in my mid forties... I suspect it comes down to us selling in relatively low numbers compared to the top European clubs. But compare the quality of our tops with a Man United or an Arsenal top and it is like night and day. That would be fine if we were paying less but our tops are still £40+ It might even be a lucrative deal for the shop/club, but I will think twice about buying another top if they persist with poor quality of material.

DosserJoe makes an excellent point in relation to the 2 transfers that Celtic made this year for a combined £17m.... As for the above post. It is a bit if a guess as is Bop, but I see them as being on a par with Pana, but that in itself is a huge challenge given we lost 5-0 in aggregate to them... After 3 games they currently sit second in the Russian top league with 1 win and 2 draws, the last being against Zenit St Petersburg. As long as we give it our all on Thursday and are still in the tie then I will be happy..
-
I see they have sold one of their better players for £8m. We sold one of our better players for £300,000. A slight gulf in quality methinks. I doubt it will make a big difference, but you never know. I would like us to get through as we all would but I would certainly like us not to lose both ties. To think ST J have not lost a home tie in Europe from 7 games. Our home record is not so clever....
