Friday night is a lot better than 12 noon on a Sunday IMHO. And that is speaking as someone who works 40 miles away or is travelling most of the time inc the Friday in Q when I get back from a short trip to Ireland. I understand if there are peopple who now cannot make it becuase of this switch. But I like games under the floodlights + it gives us the whole weekend. Most are probably p1ssed becuase they may end up Xmas shopping on the Saturday with the missus

Before yesterday's game I thought we would get approx 12 points from those games. But I allowed us only a point from the game yesterday. I had us taking at least a point from all the games apart from away at Hearts where I had zero points. Hope that is not the case as I will hopefully be at Tynecastle. Always dangerous looking ahead and predicting this and that. Excellent start to the season and let's take one game at a time Dundee Utd will be tough as will most of the games. We should not get ahead of ourselves. I would be v pleased to get to the new year with around 40 points, anything else is a bonus....

Was it not Rory Fallon and Ryan Jack that were suspended. I see Arnason may have a hamstring problem. Fact is more 1st team players missing for them, the better it is for us Looking forward to the game. Meeting up with a Dons supporting colleague after the game. Better get a draw at least.... Not sure if them not having played for 3 weeks will make any difference. By then we will be well rested also. I am feeling bullish.....so 2-1 to the mighty WELL

On Sunday. Yes it is on TV. Yes it is a 12 noon KO and it is against one of the Old Firm and football is overpriced etc But imagine the lift it will give the players to see a full East and Cooper Stand. This is as high profile a league game I can recall in ages. The eyes of world football will be on little Old Fir Park to see if Lennon can survive and to see if Motherwell can convince doubters (inc our own fans) that this can be a very special season. If you are swithering - DONT. Get along and support the boys for all the joy they have given us so far this season. You know it makes sense.
-
By the same token - if we have been poor the last 2 games, then we are due a good performance. Sadly like most on here I believe Celtic will be so up for the game, we will be on the back foot from the off. What we then need is a lot of focus and concentration and a large slice of - dare I say it luck. If we can ride out the storm and get into the game then who knows. I think we will do well to get a draw. I would be happy with that. Ecstatic with a win and not at all surprised with a defeat. GET INTAE THEM
-
It all depends on what combination of the 2 teams turn up next week. If Celtic bring the team that turned up for the 2nd half in the league cup v Hibs, we will struggle regardless what Motherwell team turn up. But if they play like they have been for the last month or so, a fully focussed Motherwell turn up with the odd slice of luck, we are well capable of getting a point or even 3. What I do not want to see is anyone giving Ki space anything up to 35 yards from our goal. Against other teams he hits row Z, against us he hits the top corner of the net every time Would happily take a draw.

THIS. The game is on TV & a good few 000 do not turn up when the unwashed are in town. But what a great sight it would be to see a 90% full East stand and Cooper stand come Sunday. If we cannot do that now when 2nd in the league we will never do it. Let's all get along and should we win, well it could rank as one of the best games/results in my 35+ yrs of following the WELL. To go 6 points clear - stuff dreams are made of.

In which case I stand corrected and Well 2k7 was on the ball after all. I always thought Provincial meant non city sides. It bloody should
-
FT - Life is a breeze. Kudos for the lads - coming from behind twice. Hope a decent home support turn up for the game next weekend. You know it makes sense Bevvy Bevvy Bevvy :drinks:

Not the best start Let us see what the team are made of. At least it was 4 mins in and not with 4 mins left. Surely ICT cannot defend for 86 minutes like they would if there were 4 mins left

You are not coming across as a prick, but please tell me you do not need me to spell it out? My original post contained the following statement: "But a quick look at that link shows that in terms of finishing 1st, 2nd & 3rd we are the best provincial side in the country". If you look at the table toward the bottom of that link, it shows QUITE CLEARLY that Motherwell have the best record in terms of finishing in the top 3 in the top league outside of all the city clubs and in fact better that DDee Utd and Dundee. Should not be too difficult to grasp surely???? As for the all time performance table - it shows Morton just below us. A team that have hardly been in the top flight for the past 30 years. This table takes into account all points won regardless of which league the team was in. You would have a strong argument to say that winning points in the SPL/Premier league v Celtic, Hearts and Rangers is tougher than Partick, Queen of the South and Raith Rovers....

Eh Frank?

Borrowed from P&B http://en.wikipedia....tball_champions I naturally assumed that our proper place in the SPL was finishing somewhere between 7th and 10th. But a quick look at that link shows that in terms of finishing 1st, 2nd & 3rd we are the best provincial side in the country. Add that to the fact we are one of only 6 or 7 teams to have won the Title, Scottish Cup and League Cup in our history. We also have the top goalscorer in the top flight with Willie MacFadyen on 52 in season 31-32. Another point about Old firm supremacy. Motherwell the only side outside the Old firm to win the title between 1904 and 1948 - 44 years!! The more things change - the more they stay the same

Even though it is more of a challenge working around the UK or Edinburgh (base), I am actually OK with this. 12 noon on a Sunday is worse. This way - most can watch the game - get home and have the whole weekend to look forward too. That and go shopping with the missus or catch up on some televised games that I tend to miss because I am travelling from and back to auld reekie. Prepared to give it a go....
-
Sadly we don't have an out and out goal scorer, probably as we cannot afford one. Despite the fact we are sitting second, our ratio of chances to goals has to be amongst the worst in the SPL. Week afetr week we create a dozen or so chances and I ainclude balls whizzing across the 6 yard box. 3 ot the last 4 results have been 1-0, 1-0 and 0-0. Murphy has been playing poorly of late or at least to the level both he and the fans and probably even the Manager knows he is capable of. McHugh is ok, but at the moment no more. Murphy would be dropped if we had a player even remotely close to his talent. I just wish he would put on a stone or 3..... I always felt we needed another striker, although Clancy has performed admirably in the last 2-3 games. We NEED a poacher in the mould of Skippy and we would have 3rd place in our sights. Hopefully in January we can push the boat out and get one.

We sound like a moaning bunch of cnuts..... But IMHO all posters are fairly spot on with their viewpoints apart from the usual suspects. 1st half we were marginally on top and 2nd half Killie probably edged it for the first 30 mins. Let us not forget that only one week ago this Killie team were 3-0 up against Celtic. They have decent players, god knows how they can afford them, but Sissoko was class all game. 0-0 not bad as it is another clean sheet and the other results went for us. I watched the game again when I got home and actually felt Hateley crosses were by and large better than I remember at the game. That said 50% of decent crosses is not great. Jennings was SUPERB in defence and made a couple of vital blocks. Hammell did similarly. How many crosses went across the 6 yard line with no-one anywhere near. We do not have a goal poacher or we would have won by a few today. Final word on the game...here is an idea...radical I know, but how about shooting when in and around the edge of the box. Several times today Murphy and Law went along the edge of the Killie box and were looking for a Well player to pass too. Other times they got into a decent position and turned back the way. They were not alone. Have a GO who knows what may happen.

Motherwell Football Club - Academy Experience
Welldaft Mk1 replied to mfc_in_the_community's topic in Club Chat
It certainly seems that the club have got there act together in this area and it is long overdue. There is so much potential in and around Lanarkshire to turn the young lads that would otherwise support the old firm into Motherwell fans. It wont happen overnight but it is great to read the positive feedback. That and anything that brings in extra revenue for the club has to be applauded. The Community team deserve a lot of kudos and this is undoubtedly the way forward for a provincial club like Motherwell. Keep up the good work -
Good to see the Hateley goal v St Mirren again. Scrubbed it on the TV. Methinks this will be a worthwhile investment. Plenty of interviews. Agree with previous poster the sound on the interviews could be better. I am at full volume on the home PC and can only just hear them. Still day 1 and I am sure Flow will turn up the dial.

Fine if that is what the SFA want then so be it, then again this is one story from one less than reliable paper, so until I see it elsewhere or more importantly MFC makes it known. However if we are denied the services of a player who is subsequently not charged, then I would expect the club to take action against the SFA for possible loss of earnings from games we may lose or draw, where we may not have done had Jennings been playing. That said he has not played that great this year apart from a couple of games

From Herald Online: It proved to be a profitable afternoon for Michael Higdon. The striker has come in for some heavy criticism from a section of the Motherwell support in recent weeks but they were cheering him off at the end here after he plundered two more goals to add to his growing collection. The fact that the team he supports, Liverpool, had beaten Everton in the Merseyside derby earlier in the day only added to his good humour. “I watched the DVD of last week’s game and I’m surprised the fans didn’t give me more stick, to be honest,” he admitted candidly. “Hopefully they’ll enjoy a pint tonight and realise I’m actually a good player.” Glad to see he retains a sense of humour. He is bound to have a couple more stinkers this season. Let's hope the boo boys lay off him this time around.

Fantastic result. I would have taken a draw, so to win reasonably comfortably was a big bonus. 6 wins, 1 draw and only 1 defeat outside the old firm is fairly impressive. Even a draw today and a draw v St J would leave us with one less point. I think we underestimated St J and it looks like we are not the only ones. We will not make the same mistake when we go up to Perth. A wee break now before our last game of the 1st round of fixtures away to Hibees, looking forward to it already.

"from the other games against the teams in and around us, we have played seven, won five, drawn one and lost one; a great record in anyone's book". Looks pretty good when you read it back. A sensible and welcome post from the Manager. From a home crowd of 4000 it only takes 10-20% to get on a player/players back before it sounds like a hell of a lot more. In an ideal world some of the boo boys will change their perspective, but I would not hold my breath.... I will shout at the team or an individual player to wake up or get stuck in, but never boo....you know it makes sense.

Some people are hard to please Aberdeen may be a poor team, but they still have 5 strikers to choose from and a wage budget which I would estimate to be high 6 or even 7 figures more than Motherwell FC. It was not a great performance, but that WILL happen a lot this season, as we have players which if they played well week in week out would not be at Motherwell FC. Simples... Maybe we should be playing silky football like Barcelona each week and playing teams off the park, teams who have larger resources than we have.
-
Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeelighted with that today Not the performance as such, just the result. In the 15-20 mins before Bob scored I just felt Aberdeen would nick a goal. It has happened so many times before. Glad it did not today. Higdon did have a bit of a mare, but why do fans feel the need to pick on any player FFS. We are all Motherwell, support the team instead of barracking them. 3rd top - you would not think it Delighted for McHugh, it was a peach of a goal - all down to tenacity and no little skill. Special mention today for Clancy. He has come in for some stick, form myself included, but I thought he did very well today. I am going to enjoy tonight mucho. Broonie Broonie what's the score

Well it is on the cards reading the press this morning. Everyone from Chairman Milne to R Foster saying how Saturday's match takes on EVEN more importance. It is a MUST win to restore faith in their supporters after the East Fife defeat. Hell we may as well even give them the 3 points now. Mind you any more defending like Craigans at Hibs second goal and we effectively will be I hope McCall has the players well fired up for this as Aberdeen will come out the traps. Hoping for the same effort and application from Tuesday night, but with hopefully less of the defensive lapses. 3 home defeats in a row does not bear thinking about Big game. Hope a few more Well fans get along to the citadel. Only 3 points but such a crucial match this early in the season. MON THE WELL - GET FIRED IN
