Agree totally with this post. The players were Soooooo much better than last Saturday. Posters talk about getting cover in and more players and I for one would have liked to see at least 1 extra recognised Striker. Possibly should have held on to Jeffers. He could have had a field day last night. The reality is the finance is not there to have that much of a bigger squad. So we can moan all we like, but thems the facts. I also would like to see Murphy and Jenno given a wee rest even for just 1 half. Never been a big fan of McHugh but he looked OK last night and should have had a goal for his efforts. I don't know what people are xpecting these days. It is only natural after a few decent seasons expectations rise, but talk of us being P1sh last night is way wide of the mark. We are attacking at will and providing great entertainment, even if that means we are going to come a cropper every now and then. Rather that than sit back, defend and hope for a draw. Onwards and Upwards

This is what I do not understand. What disappointing performance?? Last night Motherwell were 100 times better than on Saturday and we were incredibly lucky not to go through last night, not least an offside goal that was apparently well onside. That and Hibs hit 8 belting penalties which you cannot account for. If we had a goal poacher we would have been in double figures. That we do not probably has more to do with budget constraints than anything else. Defensively we were again a little suspect, but it was end to end stuff and our tactics this season are obviously to outscore the opposition. We are committing players forward leaving the defense exposed and thanks to injuries a defence that has a makeshift central defence. As disappointed as I am with the final outcome I am a LOT happier that we turned it around after the horror show that was last Saturday. Perhaps wee g you should head to Old Trafford or the Nou Camp if last night was a disappointing performance!

If we play like that tonite we will beat Aberdeen. We will probably concede at least 1 goal, but if we had a poacher like jeffers we could have had a barrowload. Which is why it may be worth considering McHugh for Murphy. If we have the right attitude from the off, then I hope Aberdeen will be quite fragile and low on confidence after tonite's result. Sure it could be the other way around and they bust a gut more so now, but I still feel if we are on our game we will have enough come Saturday.

Disappointed as we all are Hibs was as tough a tie at home as we could have got from the draw. They may have been having a hard time of it, but with O'Connor and Griffiths they have as decent strikers as any team outside the Old Firm. It was an exciting and enteraining game, but a strange one as well. After going 2-1 up we could and should have been out of sight by half time. Yet thanks to 3 great saves from Randolph in the second half we were still in the lead somehow. A draw was fair at FT, but disappointing if not entirely surprising it came from a cock up from Craigan I thought Higdon, Law, Lasley, Randolph and Humphrey were excellent. For once every cross Humphrey put in was going into the box into a dangerous area. Daley came on and looked quite decent as did McHugh to be fair and p1ssed off to learn that his goal was not offside. As for the penalties. You gotta hand it to Hibs, they did not hit 1 bad penalty, even the one Randolph saved was going in the corner. Sadly I had a feeling Murphy would miss. He has been poor of late and his inability to hit the ball harder than a 6 year old girl came back to haunt us He is capable of great skill at times, but nothing seems to be coming off for him at the moment. Disappointed for the players and the fans, but on the whole a much better performance than Saturday. Hopefully we can emulate East Fife

Looks like you are on your own jamwell and no surprise. IMHO you are talkin p1sh. Higdon had a decent game tonite as did most of the players. In fact if you want to have a go at one of our strikers I suggest you look to the other striker on the park. At times I forgot he was even on the pitch. As for the penalty......if he could kick the ball harder than a girl we would have been ok tonite. On the whole I like Murphy, but after starting the season on fire, he has fallen away of late.

Just seen the highlights online. The 1st goal sums up our defending at set pieces. It was an OK cross into the box, but was nothing other than routine and you would expect that to be tidied up time and again in most other SPL penalty boxes We need 11 players at 6ft 7+

I actually have been thinking he was playing reasonably well, if not getting the goals or plaudits his play merited. Everyone is entitled to a bad at the office and hell knows the whole team had one yesterday. That and the fact that I don't equate running around like a headless chicken as the sign of a promising player or a skillful footballer.........but.......... There were times where he would challenge for the ball, win or lose, he would make little effort to do much more. It probably looks worse than it is, but I would like to see more determination and effort going into his play.

Very good post Dave and one that I agree with wholeheartedly. I was saying all during the transfer window we needed at least one more striker to add to Higdon. I am somewhat dumbfounded this has/had not happened. We have Murphy and Higdon and then reserves. Whilst on their game these two will deliver, what happens when either or both get injured or as was evident yesterday, neither were on their game. Daley may prove to be an astute signing but was one of the areas we have covered quite well. No-one could foresee losing both Saunders and Hutchison which has left us with little cover at central back. I am surprised Mccall has not given Page a try out. He is a goal threat and could not surely have done worse than Clancy yesterday. If we play him at Centre back till Hutchison comes back we will continue to leak goals. 9 in 3 games even if 2 were against the Old firm is abysmal. Not pressing the panic button yet as we are still 3rd after 8 games and in a much healthier position than either Hibs or Aberdeen, but I am concerned..................despite having probably one of our most successful seasons last year in term of income it is concerning that we appear to have one of the most threadbare squads in the SPL

In a nutshell! After 15 minutes I thought here we go, we were playing some attractive football and at that point could not foretell what was on the cards. Then after the St Johnstone goal (from yet another freekick/dead ball situation ) we were as a whole abject. Not one player deserves a pat on the back yet all deserve a kick up the backside. I had fears about today, especially with the majority of fans predicting an easy home win. This is Motherwell after all What worries me: 7 goals conceded in 2 games A St Johnstone side with 3 or 4 key players missing Lack of options on the bench Lack of tactics form the Manager when we are up against it Clancy looking like the player most Killie fans said he was Higdon looking like the player most St Mirren fans said he was Murphy touted for £1million. At this rate £1 We have Aberdeen next week and a player who takes long throws ins a la Delap at Stoke. The way we are defending cross balls. Squeaky bum time. I don't think we have been as good as has been made out and we are not as bad as we were today - hopefully. Concerned a little over Higdon. He did little more than jump for the ball and then stand still whatever the outcome. I don't think there would be one poster on here tonight that would not swap Higdon for Sandaza. The big man needs to get the finger oot Bad day at the office

Sad to hear about Hutchison - I hope this is not going to be another season of one injury after another As for the result and performance, well as has been mentioned we are playing against a team who has a squad at least 5 x stronger than ours and away from home. They had their one fluke defeat against St J a fortnight ago - not likely to happen again any time soon! Let's hope we keep it respectable and move on. I am away out shopping in the Windy City of Chicago, hopefully that will help improve my mood!!
-
Easy to keep hold of the players if they are not being bid for! Either that or we are a lot more secretive than Rangers who in order to appease there fans are shouting from the rooftops about turning down £9 million for Jelavic. When all is said and done good news that we have kept the squad in tact.
-
Nothing happening - which is in many ways good news. I am v surprised no-one has tried to put in an offer for Randolph. Murphy on the other hand has played well in some games and fairly abject in others. Had he played v well in all games esp the home game v Gers he would have been off, All rather boring, but it does mean we can see what the squad can do till the end of this year at the very least.
-
You forgot to add that if and when the Gers sell Jelavic fir £8m - they put in an offer of £2.59 for Jamie Murphy. I mean if Maloney is worth £1m and rarely plays for Celtic. I would hold out for £3.67
-
At least it is a home draw. They have a strongish squad but a donkey in charge. Apart from possibly East Fife every other game home or away would have been just as tough. At least there is NO huge expectation we will get through without playing at our best. Have not seen the fixture list but I bet we play them in the league on or around that date??

THIS Best fun I have had at an away game for ages. Non stop singing and the young lads created a FANTASTIC atmosphere. Kudos to them. Bob Marley knew Omar Daley

http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/sports/Motherwell-embrace-Daley-Midfielder-signs-two-year-contract-with-SPL-club_9532406 Did not know he had that many caps for the Reggae Boys Still work permit pending.............Grella springs to mind..... I suspect he will be a lot like Humphrey......capable of great things and capable of not such great things.
-
Well he was not featured midweek and there was a rumour then of an injury. Who slots in if Murphy misses out on Saturday??? JAY- be as well changing at Haymarket station - 1 less stop in both directions.

As many have said - cover for Saunders. SPL experience and all that, but not an exciting signing... We probably do not have the money - but I would love a signing to get the fans reasonably excited. We have yon Omar Daley on trial and he may yet sign, but someone like Leigh Griffiths on loan even if he is a wee pr1ck....... We are doing very well thus far and last night showed we do have some depth to the squad, even if it was against a part time side. What is the Fadster doing these days. How about a short term contract till Xmas to get his fitness up....
-
I myself enjoyed the 1st half apart from the Gers goals of course. I was saying to my mate that I cannot recall Motherwell pinning Rangers back, enjoy so much possession and for them to sit so deep. Granted we lost and granted our gameplan played into their hands, but for the most part we played some decent footie. Against a lesser team we would have got a lot more scoring opportunities. More of the same this season and we will be top half for sure and pushing for a place in Europe.

I have very rarely known a player to divide opinion amongst Well fans to such an extent. 50% genuinely believe he was rubbish and 50% believe he was a talented if mercurial player. IMHO I fell into the latter camp and would like to see him back here on loan. He did have off days, but reading some posts on here Aguero and Messi would come in for stick. For me he was creative and unlocked a lot of defences resulting in assists or penalties. McCall says he is looking for a wide player and he would fit the bill. Unlikely to happen but you never know. What we do need is 2-3 extra faces and I would like to see a goal poacher that could play up front with Higdon as otherwise he will have little or no support as showed, albeit against a decent Rangers team.

As most have stated 2nd top after 5 games - I would have bitten your hand off for that. Still very annoying that we are so ineffectual against the currant buns. First half I thought we played very Well, looked the better team, but yet again came undone from our ability to self destruct and not defend set balls into our box. Once they scored the 1st goal - they were always going to sit back and hit us on the break. That added to the fact they have decent finishers leads to a 3-0 scoreline. 2nd half was almost the opposite of the 1st. We were very poor and looked as if we lacked the belief and know how to get back into the game. Very few pass marks for the 2nd half and Humphrey needs a rocket up his ar#e, far too casual with his passes. Murphy will be going no-where on the basis of that performance. In some ways that is maybe not bad news, but again he was very quiet today. One player I do want to single out for praise is Higdon. A lot of criticism on here that i don't think is warranted. Granted he did not score again today, but almost without fail he won his headers and more often than not laid the ball on for where our players should have been, inc a belter in the 2nd half when i was sure Las was going to score. What we need is a penalty box striker in the mould of Skippy and he would make a great combination for Higdon. Murphy is not that player. We have no-one up front to get on the end of his knock downs. Hardly his fault. Give the big guy a break.

Glad the 3000-3500 Well fans do not have the same viewpoint or there would be NO home fans at Fir park. The team deserve better. Sure if you cannot afford it no problems, but there will be plenty of fans sitting on there arses when in the grand scheme of things £20 would not matter a toss. yet the team are TOP OF THE LEAGUE FFS
-
Sadly Postie Jim speaks the truth. If we were top of the table and playing Aberdeen there would be at least 1-1,500 extra home fans tomorrow. Grow a set of balls............
-
Disappointing, but not really surprising. For understandable reasons a lot of Well fans give the Old firm games a miss. You would have hoped that with us sitting top of the table we would see an increase in the home gate this weekend. Frankly fed up with turning up to Fir Park for these games to see plenty of empty seats in the home end but very few if any in the away end. If ever our team needed a good turnout from home fans - tomorrow is that day. If there are plenty of empty spaces, hopefully the players don't think what do we have to do to get home fans to turn up
