Thats right. A few other rumours rebutted as well. Ian Baraclough came across as a personable and intelligent manager who is well aware of our shortcomings. Some can and are being addressed short term and some can't. Interestingly he also said that lack of confidence in a team can come across to onlookers as disinterest, but thats not the case. Overall a positive AGM, although directors know it isn't going to be an easy ride.

Without a shadow of a doubt Pettigrew & Graham. The best pairing I've seen in 50+ years. Pettigrew was lethal and lightning quick. Graham had a real football brain and defenders simply didn't know what he was doing until the ball was in the net.

I can and, whats more, I have. Its not against the Forum rules. Quite a few of our players looked lost and confused last Saturday.
-
That could also apply to quite a few others on Saturday......Ramsden, Erwin, Moore, Lasley...need I go on. Straker didn't play well granted, but he was trying to do the work of 2 men. The problem was he couldn't decide which one he should be concentrating on, and I can't blame him for that.

You make some fair points, although I don't agree with them all. However I'd add how many of us do jobs where someone is constantly trying to oppose you and stop you achieving your objectives? Thats what a football player/manager has to face in games.

Johnson, Moore and Erwin were playing midfield in an overelaborate 4-5-1 - really a 4-2-3-1. However all too often Sutton was left totally isolated. Most of the time some or all of Moore, Erwin and Johnson sat too deep. At one point Erwin was playing right back for several minutes. We had no shape and the players didn't know what they were supposed to be doing. Your point about left wing is 100% correct and teams have had this sussed for weeks now. Thats the last 4 goals we've lost from the left side. On Saturday Lasley conceded a stupid and entirely avoidable foul resulting in the Dundee scorer being able to whip over a cross from the left with all the time and space in the world to do so.

I thought Grant looked a good player at Dingwall and he could prove an asset if played in the correct role (box to box) in a straight 4-4-2 set up. He was deployed in the wrong role last Saturday. As for Ramsden he was very in poor in midfield against Ross County and should not play there again. He is a right back and thats it.

A thought provoking post. In answer to your question the 3 existing players you mention have been performing poorly all season and not just since the new guys arrived. They ought to look at themselves first and ask why they themselves are not playing well. There may be good reasons for that. The whole team is playing poorly.

X2 There little to be gained from picking on Straker or Lasley, collectively the team was very poor. For once yesterday I thought I central defence pairing had a reasonable game. The fault did not lie there. The midfield is our big problem and has been for some time - evidence of the problem was there for all to see last season and nothing was done to address it in the summer. Yesterday was a complete hotch potch of players playing needlessly out of position in roles for which they aren't suited.

Peculiar team selection and tactics meant that we had an uphill battle from the off. The midfield in particular was a complete disorganised shambles. IB also persisted with failed ideas - Sutton on his own up front; Erwin on the wing; no player left upfield when defending set pieces. Keith Lasley tried his best but is clearly not up to it at his level any more. If we are to reach safety big changes need to be made - not more of the same.

He probably is. No reference to greats such as Ben Ellis and Baldy Shaw.

Well done - good initiative. Any way season ticket holders in other parts of the ground can contribute financially in person today? Not everyone sits in the East Stand as you know.

Stevie Hammell has always been good on the ball but, in my view, poor off it. All too often he has been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time but we'll agree to differ on that. As far as Straker is concerned he has only played 2 games for the club and its far too early to form a judgement on him. First half against St Johnstone he was poor as was most of the team. Second half he had a reasonable game. At Dingwall he had a poor game but in fairness had no cover whatsoever in front of him. All too often he had 2 or 3 men running at him, as Ross County rightly targeted our left side from kick off. As far as tomorrow's game is concerned it sounds as though Pearo won't make it - hope I'm wrong. If that is indeed the case then our left back, whoever it is, will be in for hard time. I just hope Conor Grant makes it tomorrow. Ross County identified him as a danger man and it became clear they would not be happy if he played for us in the next few weeks. Looking ahead they realised, rightly, that their struggle with us would last much longer than 90 minutes. Towards the end of the game they began putting in a number of very dubious tackles on him, one of which resulted in him being taken off.

How many time have you seen him play? Stevie Hammell isn't the best defender in the world and has cost us a fair few goals.

Give the Society a break. There are still 3 days of this week to go. Talk about picking someone up before they fall. Wait until Monday morning and by all means if we've heard no more raise the issue then.
-
Probably an all rounder. Could easily replace Lasley or Carswell but not both at the same time...then again. Could also play wide left. Good box to box player.

Agreed. No-one is going to go into a match stone cold sober and get drunk at the game. What some folk will do though is have a few before beforehand and then top up at the game pushing them over the threshold. A minority of fans are able to keep their latent aggression under control when sober but simply lose control after a few drinks. Anyone visiting town/city centres on a Friday or Saturday night across Scotland will see any number of fools out of control after taking too much drink, which they simply cannot handle. I've no objection to someone consuming too much providing that they do not cause any trouble but sadly that isn't the case with many folk.

There most definitely is. We created more chances and had more efforts on goal than I've seen in any game this season. A few weeks ago we'd have lost the game 4 or 5 - 0. Defensively we are still weak however.

After Saturday my thoughts are that we now have talent and pace in the side. Our problem is a lack of steel/determination/hardness. On Saturday I counted 4 occasions on which one of our lads tore through their stretched defence only to be wiped out or taken out cynically. Indeed County were every lucky indeed to end up with 11 men on the park. They could easily have had 2 men sent off. The new guys brought hope but we do need more solidity and hardness.
-
For long spells during the second half we had no-one at all on the back post at set pieces and this proved costly. If the fans could see that from the other end of the stadium then I'm sure the manager and captain could have seen that. Again though why let County fire over cross after cross and why did we give away so many needless corners? However for one of the goals the ref gave a very soft foul, if indeed it was a foul at all.
-
Can't and won't disagree with any of that. Our poorest players were, in the main, ones who were signed before Ian Baraclough arrived. George Long and Conor Grant were clearly our best players. We created more chances yesterday than I've seen in any game this season. The challenge now is to make the defence and midfield more solid.
-
How long have you been watching the Well? John Gardiner, Andy Roddie, John Hendry, Sam Goodwin, Shaun McSkimming, Eddie May, John Davies, Jered Stirling.... need I go on?
-
Are you sure Dee? I saw quite a few players come over to applaud the fans at full time. Can't recall exactly but it must have been 7 or 8 at least. Agree that our best players were the new lads.

We'll need more than an in form Laing and Pearson and Hammell back if we're to stop shipping goals. We have to stop giving opposing teams acres of space on the edge of our box and on the wings. We have to stop them firing in shots on sight and stop slinging over cross after cross. Stevie Hammell will certainly help matters in an attacking sense but he's not the best of defenders. If we start defending properly 35 metres from goal then we'll stop losing so many goals.
