  1. This Bill isn't going to achieve that. I apologise if I repeat the arguments of others but they are important. Firstly this Bill isn't designed or intended to stamp out sectarian bigotry. Its aimed at behaviour of football supporters. This is a fundamental flaw. The problem is that sectarian bigotry at football matches is simply a manifestation of one of Scottish society's most serious problems. The Scottish Government is frightened to tackle that head on and I can understand why. Secondly, any police action will be aimed at easy targets ie fans of clubs outwith the OF. No match commander is going to order his/her officers to wade in to thousands of OF fans and start hauling them out. But that is what is required if we are to take the SG's soundbites seriously. If any match commander did that there would be all hell to pay from their bosses, the Churches, and politicans.
  2. That is correct. Under this proposed legislation you could have 2 guys sitting next to each other on a train/bus. One is going to a game the other isn't. The footie fan is wearing his team's colours. They both make the same bigoted remark. The footie fan is committing an offence the other isn't. Where on earth is the sense and fairness in that? The Scottish Government seems to think that sectarianism is confined to football. It most certainly isn't.
  3. This story is running on the Supporters Trust website. What is going on? Is this a Trust initiative? All very odd.
  4. Pretty much my view too. However the Trust really does need to clarify the post's status.
  5. Don't really know whether to agree or disagree. Certainly this post has stirred up a bit of a reaction. I'll sleep on it.
  6. Great post FC. Its extemely limited what MFC can achieve on its own by adjusting entry prices. Clubs and their supporters have to act in unison. However there will always be at least one club which seeks to steal a cheap march on the others.
  7. Stephen Hughes can produce all the ammunition in the world but it will be of very limited benefit if we have no-one on the box to pull the trigger. Our problem continues to be turning pressure into shots/headers on target. That is why we are not scoring goals at home.
  8. Point well made Ian. Whatever the cost of a subscription, the product should work.
  9. Thats not the answer at all. Like them or not the regulations state that stadia should be all seated. In order to see the game properly last Sunday we too could have stood up but I took a conscious decision not too as it would have obscured the view of those regulars behind me and forced them into standing up too. Whether they like it or not the Police really need to take a more proactive role in supporting stewards and make no mistake they have the final say on these matters.
  10. Spot on Al. How many packets of cigarettes or pints of beer or lottery tickets, or bets could you buy for £2 a month or even £4.50 a month? Even in today's climate it really isn't a fortune.
  11. I'm afraid in these situations many fans adopt a self centred attitude. Its human nature and perfectly understandable - if an issue doesn't affect them personally then its not an issue. To quite a few supporters in the East and Cooper Stands having OF fans in the POD Stand is neither here nor there. Santheman said yesterday "Don't really have a problem with them being in the home stand as they can be contained to a certain extent and I suppose you can put up with all the shouts and comments for the common good. " Not having a go at San but presumably he or she doesn't sit in the POD Stand? Having to put up with shouts and comments across aisles is neither here nor there, but we're talking about more serious and annoying behaviour. I should know as I experienced it as recently as yesterday. On the other side of the coin, many of our fans well know what it is like to have to sit next to the OF support. Its a difficult situation for the club to sort out but ultimately the buck stops with the Police and in particular the match comander.
  12. You've stolen the words from my keyboard. A good part of Jamie Murphy's problem is the role in which he's being used. He may also be playing poorly at home - its hard to say. If we must play with a lone striker at home then Jamie Murphy has to support Michael Higdon far more than he is doing. Time and again MH was looking forlonly for someone to pick up his flicks and knock downs to no avail. I genuinely thought that Jamie was meant to be supporting him but more often than not he ended up supporting Steve Hammell instead, and its not just in OF games he does this.
  13. Sorry I do have a problem with them being in the home (POD) stand, and a big one at that. Our group of season ticket holders has the misfortune of having to sit a few feet away from them, immediately across an aisle. We also have to mingle with them in the toilets ands food kiosks. Now I'm not saying that every one is a trouble maker because they're not but a few of us had problems with them in the south end of the POD Stand today. So much so I've contacted the club about the situation. I'd be interested in what our "neighbour" Spiderpig has to say about today.
  14. Agreed, this is the case in most of our home games. Celtic deserved to win... just. they put in that little bit more effort, showed a little bit more aggression and were a bit more confident. They also showed a bit more solidity and reliability. Celtic's second goal was typical of the goals we lose to the OF. To beat the OF they have to be at their poorest, we have to be at our best and the ref has to be 100% fair. None of those 3 conditions were met today. A bit surpised that Shaun Hutchinson was benched and we missed his height badly both in defence and at set pieces. SM was perhaps 10 -15 minutes slow to take off a completely exhausted Jamie Murphy. Jamie again turned in a confusing undisciplined performance popping up in almost all of the outfield positions at some point. Too often our attack at home is toothless and Michael Higdon really does need another striker alongside him. We were just a bit short of the standard required to earn a point today. Still we set out in the main to nullify Celtic and succeeded in limiting them to 2 goals. The result is what it is and we avoided a confidence sapping hammering.
  15. Exactly. Bookies don't calculate odds to treat the punters fairly. They calculate them on the basis of probability and the desire to relieve customers of their cash and as much of it as possible. We can beat Celtic and have done so before but on paper they're a far superior team and any rational neutral would expect them to beat us on Sunday.
  16. It goes on all the time, I'm sorry to say. The loophole is that negotiations are conducted through an intermediary ie an agent (they are also known by other less flattering names).
  17. Agreed. I don't want to see us give any Celtic player a free long range shot. We do this time and again against the OF. We withdraw into our box like a tortoise retreating into its shell. Inevitably a player like Ki or Edu runs at us, we back off, and they and unleash a great shot from the edge of the box that gives Randolph no chance and our fans say there was nothing we could have done about it as it was a great finish. We should show a bit of fight, stick our jaw out and go out to close them down and ensure if they do get a shot off that its a rushed, hurried effort. I wish I'd a pound for every goal we've lost like that.
  18. Yes, so am I. On the plus side Celtic will tend to play more open football than say Kilmarnock or Aberdeen did and that should suit us. On the debit side, we'll play with only one striker and the "Rabbit in headlights" syndrome may kick in. As we've said often in the past we have to get right in their faces and prevent a goal similar to Keith Lasley's on Saturday (backing off to allow the opponent a great shot on goal). If Darren Randolph has one long range shot to contend with I'll be disappointed. If all that isn't difficult enough then we have to hope for a fair referee. Despite Celtic playing poorly, its a huge ask to take a point. Still we have done it in the past.
  19. Agree Weeyin. I still can't feel sorry for Inverness though. Certainly Hogg should not have been red carded, although it was a professional foul. Would Hogg's presence have prevented the goal? In any event Meekings should have been shown a straight red for that horror tackle on Steve Hammell. It wasn't an accident and it wasn't clumsy it was a brutal tackle. Without having seen the 90 minutes I'd say that the ref was kind to ICT. There should be no cause for complaint from big Terry.
  20. Just the kind of goal we've lost time and again and in big games last season. A great shot to finish but very poor defending. .
  21. Yes we might have been poor but Inverness got exactly what they deserved....nothing. They (Chris Hogg) sought to prevent Jamie Murphy from running in on goal by cynically fouling him in other words cheating. I've no sympathy for them. Very satisfying that Tom Hately buried the resultant free kick.
  22. I can only second that. What else could you buy for a fiver a month?
  23. BBC commentary was dire. About the only credit they gave us was Jamie Murphy's seemingly outrageous yellow card. I too switched over to MFC TV - far superior. A great result today in a difficult match. We suffered a few setbacks in the game but came through successfully. Whatever else the team has character and its games like that, that boost confidence levels.
  24. Enforced or not this selection will give us a bit more height in the side. No bad thing against Inverness.
