  1. Very much so. All three clubs chasing us could potentially pip us for 3rd spot and in United's case they don't seem overly interested - they're more focused on finishing 2nd (we apparently don't come into the equation). We have to go out and keep picking up at least the same amount of points as our rivals do. In the games we play against the 3 clubs we should aim not only to beat them but really rub their noses in it - nothing can be left to chance as goal difference could be vital. If we keep on winning then we can not only celebrate but do so in style. Never mind the Cava - we can buy Champers.
  2. My starting point would be the team that won the league in 1931-32 and then start comparing players from then. Certainly I would expect Hugh Ferguson to be an automatic pick in any Well 11.
  3. A tragic event as others have said but I don't think it warrants an SPL being postponed. Did the question arise in May 1991 before the Cup Final when Mr MacLean Snr passed away? Sadly these things do happen and it will be very hard for Liam Kelly but we all have to deal with things at some point.
  4. According to the SFA website Timothy Clancy and Shaun Hutchinson are both free from suspension next weekend but Keith Lasley has one game to serve. Less well publicised on this board is that Mahamadou Sissoko is suspended for one SPL game. I'd expect that Tim Clancy will be available to play and would hope that Crags and Shaun Hutchinson are fit and available too. If possible I'd go with Clancy & Hutchinson as first picks with Chris Humphrey and Staurt Carswell retaining their places in the midfield.
  5. £250k is only the initial target and most folk seem optimistic it will be reached. Thereafter its a case of gradually building up the membership. Quite a few folk I know probably can't afford to join before the end of March but intends to do so in the next year or so.
  6. I'd go along with that. Both lads did well but our defence will have more testing days. Jon Page is of course the more exeprienced and maybe now has earned himself more game time. Adam Cummins needs to be brought on more carefully with perhaps a sprinkling of appearances from the bench in less critical games. Remember Willie Kinniburgh though? He began really well as a fresh faced youngster in our hour of need but never really progressed. For young lads breaking into the first team there's along way to go. Next week will prove a bigger challenge and we should play more experienced defenders, if we are able to do so.
  7. A very important three points and a lot of credit should go to the youngsters who rose to the challenge today. A makeshift and inexperienced central defence held out comfortably. Steve Hammell scored a cracking 30 yarder although it has to be said the Aberdeen defence invited him him to have a crack and he did just that. We exerted a fair bit of pressure but didn't trouble the Dons keeper as often as we should have. Henrik was causing panic in the red ranks but didn't look fully fit. Thought Chris Humphrey too had had a decent game as did the inspirational Jenno. I thought Ian Brines had a poor game riddled with inconsistencies although he didn't make any major blunders fortunately. Considine can consider himself very fortunate to last the 90 minutes as can McArdle.
  8. Agree FC. We really need to turn out in force today and get behind the team.
  9. I've followed the Well for a year or two Al, and seen a fair few ups and downs and learnt not to take anything for granted. On a few occasions I've seen big prizes snatched away from us incredibly and at the last minute. We tend to do things the "Motherwell" way. At the moment, in mid March, we're well clear of the pack in 3rd spot. Rangers look as though they'll fail the Euro financial test, whatever that might be. So yes, its quite possible that we'll make the Champions League. However there are two main risks. Firstly, we may not finish third - someone may catch us - there's a fair few points still up for grabs and United are going like a runaway tank. Secondly, it has not yet been confirmed by the authorities that Rangers won't be allowed to compete in Europe. If we qualify for the Champions League then I'll celebrate but I think we'd do well to keep a lid on it for the time being.
  10. Keep our feet on the ground folk. Our first hurdle, and its a huge one, will be to take something from Saturday's game.
  11. I'll see you on Saturday Dee to make a small donation.
  12. I certainly don't wish Fraser Fyvie any harm and I hope he recovers quickly but he does make it hard for opposing fans to like him. In the first half he was screaming in Craig Thomson's face for him to give either Las or Jenno a yellow card after a foul had been awarded. Not nice.
  13. Whoever comes in it won't be Nicky Devlin who is out with a serious long term injury. This is a big game for us with a lot at stake and so I'd still go fror a loan signing if thats possible. A heavy defeat will hurt our confidence and boost our rivals like Dundee United who have convinced themselves they'll catch Rangers. We also have to hope that Steve Hammell and Tom Hately play a lot better. They have to prevent crosses into our box at all costs and close wide players down quicker and more effectively. No silly corners either (ref permitting of course) or free kicks. I don't care how big the Dons strikers are they will not score with their heads if they can't get the ball in the air. If a Dons player player appears 40 metres from our goal I'd like to see a pack of our lads close them down. It'd be great to see Darren Randolph bored out of his skull through inactivity.
  14. I don't know that we can blame them for putting us out both competitions but they certainly had a significant influence on the course of both games. Add to that Henrik's stonewall penalty claim at Tannadice and we have grounds for complaint.
  15. Some merit in that Greg, but if we stick in a raw 18 year old with Jon Page to guide him then I fear a real beating. That wouldn't do anyone's confidence any good except Fallon's and Vernon's and I ain't for helping them. Peter Houston too would be delighted.
  16. A very bad day at the office and all we can say is that the better team...just won. Aberdeen were no great great shakes but on the day they had a better defence than ours. SM chose the wrong team and tactics and the many players had an off day. Jamie Murphy has lost his confidence and hardly beat his man all day. At Least Chris Humphrey brought a bit of spark to the proceedings. Our two full backs had a bad day and our set pieces were abysmal. Against a big side you have to accept that they'll win ball after ball in your box but the key is to prevent unnecessary crosses which our full backs didn't do and you need to get about their feet at Dougie Arnott used to do - knock them off balance, stand on their feet that kind of thing. We also played to Aberdeen's strengths by continually playing the ball in the air. We had guys with pace but didn't use them properly and didn't use the wings. One good thing though is the side has character and even with 10 men gave as good as we got. We had plenty of pressure but largely failed to trouble their keeper. What can I say about the ref - a bad call at the first goal, overly fussy and inconsistent. Onwards and upwards.
  17. I think its time that jamie Murphy was given a rest as he's clearly lost confidence. Chris Humphrey should be a direct replacement. Likewise Stuart Carswell should come in for Keith Lasley. If Stephen Craigan doesn't make it then I'd go for a loan signing. Any other option doesn't bear thinking about.
  18. We have to allow free speech Jay and its important that any observer reading these Boards gets a true picture of our views, if thats possible. We've had plenty of these threads before and always allowed both sides of the argument however "independent" some posters might be. This would set a dangerous precedent. All that said, I agree that if the situation arises we should not simply let Rangers back in the SPL - clubs must use the moment to change rules and regulations on a range of topics including share of TV cash, voting rights and share of home gates. We're asking Club Chairmen to grow a set, rightly. However thats not enough. We, as fans also "have to grow a set" to use the phrase of the moment. Thats more difficult for most of us. It will involve challenging the power of Sky and other TV companies. Make no mistake, they are part and parcel of this issue. They have written clauses into regulations and agreements. They've screwed fans and clubs for years and now we have to fight back to support club chairmen. If they don't alter their agreements and kick off times then we should cancel our subscriptions en masse. If a pub or club dares to show live footie then don't go back to that pub. Folk on here, including myself, moan about the power of Sky and their cronies and about KO times well now we have a chance to stand up to them. If they won't change then we ditch them. No more Barcelona V AC Milan or Arsenal V Man Utd on the box ....big deal. TV is as much as part of this debate as Rangers and its often all too convenient to ignore that. Come what may I'll continue to support MFC.
  19. Did you take out a loan to pay for it with Ticketus?
  20. Great news. Our fans are sometimes criticised but they really seem to be backing the club over this initiative.
  21. A good win yesterday and 3 important points. The crowd was excellent and gave the lads plenty of encouragement. We struggled a bit in the first half but once we scored the first Dunfermline's heads went down and the final result was never in doubt. Maybe our team line up wasn't quite right but SM acknowledged that and changed things at half time. Onwards and upwards.
  22. Local police don't like offensive chanting. If there's one force in Scotland which will crack down hard on it its Fife constabulary. Look at the number of sectarian related arrests at EEP for example.
  23. A warning to all travelling Dossers - the authorities at East End Park are pretty hard on "unacceptable behaviour" in the stands.
  24. Yes a good article. Financially times are hard for clubs but aren't they for all of us? Its reassuring to know that we have some good folk at the helm of the club right now. I hope we're never again dependent on one person. It might be a John Boyle but it could also be a Craig Whyte.
