Very sad to hear of your loss. I knew Alastair from his EoS Branch connections and he'll be sorely missed. He was a good friend. Keep the faith at FP Wellfan - he would want that. RIP
-
It wasn't just that though - there was a fair bit of snow on the Tannadice surface, and that was cited as being a contributory factor in cancelling the fixture.
-
My thoughts exactly. Had they been interested enough to find out they would have.
-
Exactly. Also if the player is suspended without having being proved guilty that very risky indeed.
-
In fairness though they did have injury problems.

There were other things going on at East End Park at that time and to some extent Kenny was the fall guy.
-
That might be true but for every Lambert and Coyle there's a Malpas or May. Any rookie appointment is a calculated gamble. However the names being bandied about for our shortlist don't fill me with confidence - I just hope thee are dark horses not mentioned by the media. Going by past appointments that's a strong possibility of course.

Good post Andy. I know that Dundee are running a Christmas raffle and hope to make a good few thousand from it. Our money will go to Gordon Young and hopefully that'll help the club to invest in the youth development programme. Young players coming through are the lifeblood of MFC. Money is tight just just now especially with Christmas coming up and it'll be understandable if folk can't buy tickets but my post was simply intended as a reminder to those who intended to take part but have thrown the tickets in drawer somewhere and forgotten about them.
-
Just a reminder to those who intend to sell tickets that the proceeds will need to be passed to MFC this week, in good time for the draw. Hopefully the club will make something from it in these hard economic times.

Blue Square have received very little public criticism for the way they've handled this wth the exception of posters on this Board, FPC and Tam Cowan. Their spokesman should not be making public comments about this and any further evidence. Questions also need to be asked about how this informaton became public and was acquired by the SoS. Was it a public letter, was it leaked by an employee of Blue Square, was it leaked by the SFA?

Quite a few folk in Inverness would disagree quite vehemently with that. When Caley & Thistle merged in a forced marriage more than a few folk were lost to the game forever. If we closed down Airdrie United, Hamilton, Albion Rovers and ourselves and formed Lanarkshire United do you think we'd attract a home support of 7,000? More like 1,500 - 2,000. I for one would have no stomach for a Lanarkshire United - it would mean nothing to me. The same could be said in Falkirk, Dundee and Edinburgh

I don't often wear C & A scarves/hats normally on non match days but always make a point of doing so when I'm in Motherwell. Never experienced any odd looks, and if I did I'd challenge the parties concerned.

There's a lot to be said for authoritarianism - it can be quick and decisive. However there is a down side - you might totally disagree with what is implemented. You pays your money you takes your pick.

1) Either free agent or able to break contract without penalty. 2) Someone who is prepared to come to Motherwell. 3) Can achieve a lot with a little budget. You are 100% correct of course, but these criteria could apply to many applicants. I doubt for example if John Boyle would be likely to appoint someone to the post if they did not want to come. It would be an embarassing situation if JB appointed a candidate who then refused to take up the post on the basis they had never wanted to come. A bit tongue in cheek here so please indulge me. I predict that the successful candidate will be male with some connection to football.

This is exactly what the club is doing. Leeann Dempster is very committed to this approach. Falkirk and Norwich City are pioneers in this respect.

According to Andy Devlin in the Sun, Alan Stubbs has now emerged as front runner to fill our vacancy. Interviews will be concluded today with an appointment possible in the next 48 hours. Stuart McCall has also been interviewed and Chris Sutton is a contender too. Mark McGhee will not be returning.

Its oft quoted that John Collins was difficult to work with and stirred up dressing room unrest. Thats as may be. However, what is most often overlooked is that he left Mixu Paatelinen a poor squad. The squad he left was grossly overhyped by the media (young + Hibs employee = great player). I have been led to believe he left before he was found out. If true, thats worrying. A big name in football terms and an ex OF player but folk shouldn't be taken in by that.

I'm a wee bit puzzled at some of the reaction to Derek Adams and Stuart McCall. Yes, Derek Adams took Ross County to a Cup Final, as did Gordon Chisholm with QOS. But what else did he do? He didn't steer County to promotion for example? Stuart McCall - he might have played for Rangers, and have a knowledge of English football but his track record at Bradford was undistinguished to say the least. If you're going to go for an experienced manager with a track record that track record has to be good. Again I'd reiterate that no-one mentioned so far is an obviously strong candidate.
-
The club is probably at its lowest point at the moment. Our manager walked out on us in distasteful circumstances, we suffered a frustrating midweek defeat, we're rudderless on the field and there's no sign of a new manager being appointed. All bad news so far. Things will pick up when a new man is appointed - they usually always do, unless the appointment is very unpopular. We've been through this cycle before, many times. As Harri Kampmann famously said "The sun always shines in the morning".
-
I didn't go along tonight, although I feel a bit guilty about it. Two things dissuaded me 1) a 120 mile round trip on icy roads and 2) the fact that I'd already driven through to Motherwell this week and I can't justify going through twice. I know that the Trust organsied the event before the Hearts game was re-arranged but I'm sure a fair few folk are put off going to FP twice in one midweek. My tuppence worth anyway.
-
Thats my take on it although its speculation of course.
-
Oh dear. Is the SFA considering asking other participants in the game for their phones too? If not why not? If it isn't this should not have been made public. Having gone public with this story the ABB have a duty to clarify exactly what the alleged incident was. As Fatcalf has reported this is growing arms and legs. Nothing on their website about it however.
-
A very strange statement. Its interesting that the term "agreement was reached". More to this than meets the eye probably.

Lets get this right...the investigation is based on a solitary bet and not a pattern?

Steve Jennings booking was very harsh considering it was his first foul of the game and worse went unpunished later. According to the Herald, " The midfielder tapped the referee in the shoulder, then allegedly said “stop cheating us”.
