  1. Thats a very generous take on the situation. If that was his view, and theres nothing wrong in that, he could have shown some loyalty and asked JB if he could remain at Fir Park as No 2. That way he could have helped the club out in its hour of need and repaid the faith and loyalty shown in him. Its quite possible that he's been offered a substantial wage increase and thats why he's moving on.
  2. 100% agree. You don't just charge in and cause a barney. You bide your time and pick your place. However clubs must start standing up to the OF and this is one battleground perfectly suited to a limited engagement.
  3. Diplomacy from JB and quite right too. I have no idea what he thought about MMcG but he's an ambassador for MFC and if he'd been minded to slag off ex employees in public that would not do much for the club. It would certainly not help to attract a new manager.
  4. Agree with many others here....time to stand up to OF.
  5. Unless I'm missing something obvious here I have no idea as to why he might be a serious candidate. A mediocre playing career at lower league clubs, in charge at Albion Rovers for a short spell and a short spell as No 2 at Swindon. As I say maybe I'm missing something.
  6. All Motherhood and apple pie isn't it Jim? So Scott Leitch has always wanted to manage Aberdeen? Trying to impress a new employer and set of fans perhaps. I'll warrant there's more to than that.
  7. I believe that you could've watched Stirling Albion in the 2nd division last season for £13.
  8. Really? Thats interesting. Certainly, I was proved wrong over Willie Miller and Mark McGhee - that surprised even a few Dons fans.
  9. I've always suspected this Rickoza. MMcG would have known months ago about the likely vacancies at Parkhead and Pittodrie. Managers do talk and they are tapped by clubs. Its a fact of life.
  10. Agreed Peter. There's a fair chance that Mark McGhee knew well before the end of the season about likely managerial moves away from Parkhead and Pittodrie.
  11. After alls said and done I'll be most surprised if Luc Nijholt is anywhere near our short leet. The same situation arose when mark McGhee was appointed and it transpired that the club did not consider Luc. A complete red herring if ever there was one.
  12. Spot on. In all my career I've never heard such a comment from a new start. How to win friends and influence people. I thank our former management team for some good football, a 3rd place finish and a great trip to Nancy. On the other hand I won't miss the cup flops and the bitter taste that Mark McGhee has left in the mouth of many fans including mine. As for Scott Leitch - I wish him no harm but he has shown us no loyalty and I won't particularly welocme him back to Fir Park.
  13. I wondered about that. So what that would imply is that if he was at the start of a long contract he'd go the cheap but if at the end of a short one MFC would be guaranteed a fair sum. No mention of the Scott Leitch element then? If true then it would appear to be clear cut. IF the Dons won't stump up the full amount he could make up the difference himself if he's so depserate to move.
  14. So according to the Sun Mark McGhee has a £200k compensation clause built in to his contract. I'd like to know what that means exactly. It could mean various things.
  15. Good post Welldaft. If there was a difference of course then MMcG & SL could always buy out their contracts and make up the difference. If they simply resigned then I'd guess MFC could sue them both for breach of contract. I don't doubt Aberdeen are quibbling over a few thousand pounds. They're quite capable of pleading poverty and then forking out big fees or salaries for players. If they want our management team then they pay the going rate end of.
  16. Being a bit negative here but I haven't been enamoured with any of the names mentioned so far bar Billy Reid. Most are past it, untested, would not be interested or have no real track record. Looking on the bright side, I'm quite pleased however that Paul Lambert and Ian MacCall are not contenders. Scott Leitch would have been a gamble.
  17. You've hit the nail on the head FC. They can't telveise games without the opposition's agreement.
  18. If your wife reads that you'll be in big trouble! Sleep safe tonight.
  19. Today's Press & Journal "Finally the wait is almost over and Aberdeen will attempt to secure the services of Mark McGhee as their new manager today. Dons director of football Willie Miller and chairman Stewart Milne will hold talks with Motherwell owner John Boyle to finalise details of a £200,000 compensation package for McGhee and his assistant manager Scott Leitch. If those talks are successful, the laboured and frustrating pursuit of a replacement for sacked manager Jimmy Calderwood, his assistant Jimmy Nicholl and reserve team manager Sandy Clark will have finally limped to its conclusion after more than two weeks, with the Gothenburg Great expected to make his Pittodrie bow tomorrow. Boyle’s determination to strike a hard bargain is understandable. Motherwell play their first Europa League qualifier on June 22 but the chairman has reacted angrily to reports he had offered the post to Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall."
  20. 100% correct. In short he has no track record.
  21. IF media reports are to be believed (Sunday Herald?) Celtic has already told Aberdeen that MMcG is not on their wanted list.
  22. You've also forgotten the saving in Mark McGhee & Scott Leitch's wages. It all adds up you know. Good points though.
  23. Its a heartache, nothing but a heartache I tell ya.
  24. Wee Tommy was results driven. Often that meant boring but effective defensive football. Many fans go on at length about his great signings and with justification but by the same token he also made more than his fair share of dud signings. Still who would criticise his methods given his achievements?
  25. Presumably though WBA, or any other club in their situation could simply sue the departing manager for severing the contract, in this case £2m?
