Wilson for Seddon was the substitution that was made, my point was the knock on effect of only having 4 more subs. I thought Kaleta was well off the level of the previous week and being replaced with O'Donnell would have had a beneficial effect for the team balance (IMO). My point on hindsight was that the timing and personnel involved in the substitutions ended up with us getting a point despite a numerical dis-advantage, a plus in my book, different choices my have ended in a different result. I wasn't being (over) critical of Kettlewell, I actually quite like him. I was just voicing an opinion that he possibly could have done better with his substitutions. The bottom line is, I'm glad I'm not the manager 'cos results don't rest on my opinions.

The argument could be made that the Seddon injury, and substitution, caused a necessary rethinking of the later substitutions. In an ideal world, Seddon would have lasted 90 minutes allowing O'Donnell to replace Kaleta, giving us more defensive nous at the end when we were under pressure. I agree that the subsequent substitutions should have been earlier, both due to fatigue (Ap Stam, Watt & Halliday) and tactically, getting TJ into the fray earlier. We could have risked Paton or Watt playing 90 minutes and replaced the other one with O'Donnell allowing Kaleta to move forward, or to put O'Donnell on instead of Moses, but everything is easier with hindsight.

I fair enjoyed today, we played some good football, scored some good goals, there were lots of discussion points and we won. I then spent an hour post match with my brother-in-law (a 'Well fan) and four of his pals (Dundee U fans) and we agreed that it was an entertaining match with some terrible defending by both teams and an inconsistent referee. I hope I would be so gracious if the final score had been 3-4. I suspect I couldn't have spent that time with too many Old Firm fans. The bottom line is that if you want to watch a team dominate the opposition and not give up any chances, you shouldn't be at Fir Park or Tannadice, go to watch Celtic instead. I know where I would rather be though. Edit, Meant to post that in the match thread, sorry.

Two goals and an assist make it a very easy choice today. A lot of good performances but Apostolos Stamatelopoulos was the stand out. (Yes, that was a copy and paste effort)

With a view from the Cooper stand we had no idea of either incident in real time. Having watched Sportscene however, my immediate reaction to the "equaliser" was exactly the same as yours, if a defender had committed the offence to save a goal, there is no way he would have avoided a card of some colour, and given that the ball went directly into the goal, how does that differ from Casey's red card v St. Mirren. You could argue that Sander's offence is a deliberate act of cheating. As to Halliday, I don't think a penalty is justified but I'm not totally surprised at the decision. We are back to consistency though, there was a very similar handball in the Hibs v St. Mirren game on Saturday that didn't even warrant a mention.

I have no issue with the throw-in decision, as long as the officials are consistent in the application of the law. Spoiler alert**** they aren't. From the Cooper stand it was impossible to tell whether the corner went out the park, it did look like the referee gave the decision rather than the linesman though, and he had as bad a view as I did. The referee was as poor as most Scottish referees, he stopped play several times for offsides when the play had broken down and the defence was in possession, it just slows the game up for no reason at all, except to allow the ref to be the centre of attention. Some of his decision making was just baffling.

Seddon for me, honourable mentions for TJ, Kaleta & Sparrow.

Used to use that Tom Harks tune regularly at FP. Insert the name of an opposition player you don't like, EG Craig Levein, and sing: Levein is a wank Levein is a wank Levein is a wank Levein is a wank Ad infinitum.

I thought we thoroughly deserved three points today, we created, by far, the better chances and, for all St. Mirrens possession, they never really looked like scoring after the penalty save. Tanser may feel hard done by in terms of when the second yellow was issued, but he got away with quite a lot between the two yellows without a word from a very poor referee. Oxborough was my MOM, his save in first half injury time was unbelievable (disgracefully not shown in the BBC highlights) and the penalty save was top class too. Miller is outstanding and Wilson may earn us a few quid too if he keeps developing at this rate. Ap Stam looked good when he came on, I have high hopes for him. As for St. M's feeling of injustice with some of the decisions..........get it right up them. π

Oxborough for me, Miller, Wilson & Davor all worthy of a mention.

Rollo Kyle was his name (I think). Add in the indirect free kick against Celtic in the mid 2000's semi-final for the keeper (Woods I think) not releasing the ball quickly enough, another rule rarely enforced. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

What, before he has been linked with Rangers or Celtic? Someone didn't get the memo.

I liked Broomfield,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I just didn't like walking in to it. π§

Have you ever been on this forum before? There are one or two who are only happy when we lose.

That was a very enjoyable day today, arguably our best home performance for more than a year. I could make a case for several to be MOTM but we had no failures at all. As someone else said, Oxborough and Gordon have given us a spine to build a solid looking defence round and the addition of Maswanhise, combined with the emergence of Wilson, and SOD's new lease of life has given us some attacking impetus. Halliday looks like he is faster than a couple of weeks ago and Davor, who I thought we should have taken off when Sparrow and Seddon came on, was everywhere when Hearts tried to up the tempo. I was worried that we were going to revert to last season's tactic of trying to hold on to what we have rather than keep doing what we were doing well, but after our 15 minute wobble, we finished strongly and in the end, 3-1 flattered Hearts. Our work rate for the last 15 minutes was very impressive and I thought we managed the game well at the end. Mostly though, I just love beating Hearts. πΊππΊ

Went with SOD. Wilson, Watt, McGinn & Gordon all played well too. As did Halliday and Maswanhise in the first half.
-
Maswanhise for me, he changed the game when he came on. SOD, McGinn & Wilson all played well as did the Ox. Miller continues to impress, several turns that gave him acres of space, I don't think we will be able to hold on to him for too much longer. If there was an option for whoever coached them to keep a hold of the ball from our own throw-ins I may have voted for him/her, I haven't seen us manage to do that so often for years.

I don't think you know what Stockholm Syndrome is.

I don't think we ever got the chance to knock back Hearts, my memory is that any time we had an upcoming game with the Arse of Midlothian, Ba' faced Jeffries would plant the story with a pet journo that he wanted to sign him to try and unsettle him. The same Jeffries that told his Kilmarnock players to take it in turn to kick seven shades out of Hammell every time we played them, once one got booked someone else took over that responsibility, it's a good job Jeffries has no 'Well connection or he would win this thread hands down.

Ah, never gave a thought to Clyde. Just win baby.

I think a loss on penalties is enough, we will have 9 pts, they will have 8.

We didn't really learn much today at all,: Goalie: Who knows! Defence: Under no pressure, O'Donnell, Casey and Blaney played like they did last season, Balmer looked a good addition, but, he had all the time in the world, Wilson was ok but I think his lack of a right foot will be exploited defensively by better opposition. Midfield: Did ok till they got into the final third. Like the defence, Davor, Paton and Halliday showed nothing that we didn't know about them but I was impressed by Wells in terms of attitude and skill, he has a way to go yet but the early signs are promising. Up-front: Moses doesn't really look cut out for the lone striker roll but we thought that last season with Bair so time will tell. Subs: Sparrow and McDermott looked ok, Robinson and Stuparevic looked skillful but possibly lacking in pace. Miller is a class apart but I didn't understand why he came on, had it been 0-0 or 1-0 and we needed a bit of impetus then fair do's, but at 3-0 and cruising it seemed a bit un-necessary. Still, good to be back to the real stuff, roll on Tuesday.

It was between Balmer and Wells for me, Balmer strolled it but he wasn't exactly pressurised as they were so poor, Wells looked decent on and off the ball and looks like he wants to play "heads up" football so he got my vote.
