  1. I have been trying to forget about both of them for years, you realise I won't sleep for weeks now. Thanks very much. Edit: I've just read the whole thread, thousands of pounds and years in therapy wasted, wiped out in the time taken to read three pages.
  2. Any last minute winner, e.g. Fitzy at Easter Road is a great time to be a 'Well fan. The best feeling though, although not a goal, was the full time whistle in 1991, the realisation that after 28 years as a 'Well fan, that we had actually won something, and that no matter what happened in the future, that I had witnessed a Motherwell captain lift a trophy above his head, will live with me forever. What about a least celebrated goal thread? Me and my brother went to Smackhead for the first time (about 1978 ish) and ended up in the wrong end, Jim O'Rourke scored the only goal and we had to stand with our jacket sleeves stuffed into our mouths for 60 minutes while the best fans in the world (ha, ha, ha) got extremely pissed off at their incompetent strikers (ring any bells?) and then had to negotiate our way back to the train station with our scarves well and truly hidden from the smelly hoardes.

    Mister Coke obviously
  4. You were right there, seven minutes injury time Lot of good performances today ( not by the referee though ) and other than a ten minute spell just after they went down to ten men, as comfortable a one nil as you will see. I was a bit worried when Nade went off injured, I was scared they might send on a footballer to replace him I love it when we beat the Jambos

Several good performances today, but I thought the butler was excellent, just shading it from Hutchinson. Saunders, Reynolds, the Duke and O'Brien all did well too.
  6. Hi Beerschot, and welcome aboard. t answer your questions: will we be able to buy tickets for this match on the day of the match? Yes, it will almost certainly be pay at the gate. how much in advance of the match should we come to the stadium (considering that we will have to take the train from Edinburgh)? The main Motherwell train station is about 20 minutes walk from Fir Park and is a relatively straight road, Airbles station is closer to the ground but is not on the Edinburgh line so you will need to change trains and what you save in walking time will probably be lost in waiting for the connection (worth doing though if the weather is bad) The other down side is having to walk through the town centre and seeing how run down it is now, especially since the Steelworks closed. what is the best stand to be in? The best view will be from the Main (Phil O'Donnell) stand although as it is the oldest, if you are quite tall your knees may be jammed on the seat in front. I sit in the Cooper stand which is behind one of the goals, the atmosphere is a bit subdued, but the seating is (in my opinion) the best of all three home stands. The East stand is converted terracing, so whilst it is the best one for atmosphere, the view can be poor if the action is taking place down in one of the corners on that side of the ground, and if the kids are coming with you they may learn some quaint Scottish expressions For a family I would definitely say to go for the Main or Cooper stands. any other things we should consider for our visit? Wrap up warm, it can get a bit chilly here in November, the nearest pub to the ground is Jack Daniels, which is on your route to the ground (more or less) the Cooper suite (a bar in the Cooper stand) is open pre and post match, it is supposedly for Season ticket holders only but they don't seem to bother too much about that. I hope you enjoy the experience (and witness a triumph for the mighty 'Well.)

I heard about this yesterday at Church and I am saddened by the suddenness of it all. My thoughts are with Elaine, Ale and Emma.

  9. Interestingly (and I'm sorry if this sounds like name dropping), I played golf with Willie Pettigrew last summer, just after the Rangers bid for Reynolds, and expressed the opinion that I'm sure was held by a lot of fans on here, namely that Reynolds would be better served staying at Fir Park and learning more by playing first team football. I was surprised that WP had a much more professional view, that Reynolds could lose form or get an injury that could mean he was finished with football and that the security that the Ranger's deal offered was too good to turn down, an opinion that I couldn't really argue with. Hopefully we were both right and that Mark can turn in some right good performances and get his big money move (hopefully not to the auld scum) which would be good for both club and player.
  10. I started picking and choosing games when my girls were about 4, the oldest one couldn't be bothered and it was a constant case of "Dad, can I get, crisps \ juice \ sweets" I'm cold, I'm bored", etc and I rarely saw much of the second half of any game. The wee one, on the other hand, loved it, and now has a season ticket. It's pretty much down to the child, but I wouldn't take anyone as young as 18 months, and certainly not on a typical Scottish winters day. Pick an end of season game to test the water once you think she's old enough and take it from there.
  11. Several good performances, but if anyone plays Kyle out of the game again this season as Hutchison did on Saturday I'll be very surprised. Hutchison for me.
  12. Big bad Willie Watson I think, 118 minutes or something like that. I smiled all the way home

I am shocked and saddened with this news, my deepest condolences to his family.
  14. That's quite an interesting read, and the translation is excellent, considering how stupid a language English is in terms of grammar. I don't think you could call Motherwell powerful, but Gannon seems to be quite switched on tactically so this whole tie should be a very interesting affair. I have no intention of making a prediction, I just hope that it can be tight in the first leg so we have a chance in the return.
  15. Yes, I think it was just the first house in the row that was the problem because it's garden would have to be built on. The club later bought the house but by that time didn't have the money to complete the stand so just sold it again (probably at a loss, knowing Motherwell ) I've always liked the quirky, not quite finished look that it gives the ground.
  16. Much as I'd prefer the game at Fir Park if it's at Airdrie so be it. I notice no Kick Off time on the main site, holding out for a TV deal maybe???? My only complaint about there is getting out the car park at the end, I left the house (Motherwell) at half six and got to the ground at seven, it took me longer than that to move a car length after the game.
  17. Hard as nails and totally blind fullback. May be an urban myth but I've heard tales of the time he walked into the Centenary suite after a game and fell over a table 'cos he didn't see it. Edit: Oh aye, and any team that doesn't have Shaun McSkimming in it isn't the worst Motherwell team of all time.
  18. Good man, keep me a seat next to you please.
  19. That's what Sky+ is for ye cheeky young whippersnapper.
  20. I did wonder about it being on the telly when I saw it was an 8.05 Kick off.
  21. You remember it wrong, Clarky got the double and McDonald got a late third after coming on as a sub.
  22. In which case the £200k we were reputedly paying McGhee is freed up to spend, same whichever way you look at it.
  23. Actually Mr. Shiny head, you're not the only one who feels like that, he did a good job while he was here, and some of the football was a joy to watch, There was, however, an inevitability about his leaving, especially after the last game when he sat in the dug out with his arms crossed for 90 minutes, then didn't appear with the team for the lap of honour. He was good for us and we were good for him, yes, some things left a sour taste, but we had two good seasons and we seem to have had some reasonable dosh in compensation for him leaving. I don't wish him any great ill will, he is just symptomatic of the state of the game now. I just hope JB chooses wisely.
  24. Hampden Park full on an international night was fantastic in those days. If you needed a pee you had to use the jacket pocket of the guy in front of you.
  25. Erm, was that not Neil Simpson, Neale Cooper was the guy who managed Ross County and a few lower league English teams was he not?
