Link? Can't seem to find any on there that are working...

Interesting that we have a 16yo striker on the bench. Hammell showing tha players he thinks can make the step up or a sad indictment on our squad options..?

Top of the league currently in Finland...

Guessing not. Pretty unusual situation for any club, I reckon. Be interesting to see the names that get suggested by the media. It won't be any of them, but it'll be interesting...

Glad it's not my job to appoint our next manager as there's no obvious name popping into my head. Given the timing, we can't really afford to take weeks over it but at the same time, an appointment we need to get right. Tricky balancing act...

I tend to agree that O'Donnell wasn't fantastic last season but there is a pattern developing where Alexander falls out with senior pros. Watt last season, O'Donnell this season. Have heard various other stories that hint at poor man management. At Motherwell, we're unlikely to get the best players in the world. So we need everyone pulling in the same direction. Requires leadership. Doesn't seem like people want to follow our current leader.. And it does have a knock on effect. Falling out with your senior right back meaning you have to go and get another right back eats into your budget if you wanted to replace the two substandard left backs...

Morris clearly slow as a week in the jail preventing him from getting down the line and putting crosses in...

I don't disagree. Just telling you what I think needs to happen for us to have anything resembling a functioning team. Sacking Alexander may seem a slight improvement in player's morale and a slight bump in performances but it won't solve the major problems....
-
I just think the vast majority of the players are not good enough...

I'm not saying don't sack him. I'm saying simply sacking him won't save us. I'm suggesting we need to sack him and sign 5 or 6 players. Far from easy at this stage of the season but that's what is required...

These players are making basic errors in defence, in attack the crosses are dreadful. I'm not defending Alexander. For me, he's responsible for a group of players who simply aren't good enough...

Could another manager get more out of this squad? On the basis of tonight, I'm not so sure. The club have allowed Alexander to assemble a squad incapable of creating chances or defending properly. In midfield, not sure Spittal for O'Hara is an upgrade. Is Maguire better than Donnelly? Morris looks as slow as me. He has to go but frankly whoever comes in is inheriting a dreadful squad...

Huge issue is that sacking the manager doesn't solve the issue. The club have allowed him to assemble a squad with no reliable central defenders, no wingers and no reliable centre forward. Doesn't bode well for the goals for or against columns. He has to go but we've allowed him to decimate the squad already. ..

Nowhere near good enough...

They have missed a good few chances...

Outplayed. Outfought. Outthought.. Very easy to blame two individual errors but ignores the fact they could have scored on a number of other occasions. Something that can't be said of us...

People rating Shankland as a striker really baffles me, I think he's bang average. People rating McInnes as a manager equally confusing. The expectation that Hibs will be comfortably top six is another one that has me scratching my head...

Do lower league teams not have the same issues?

When did you work with Mark McGhee? Obviously a few years back given the 'they got results' comment...

Indeed. The reason I don't want Griffiths at Fir Park is the fact he flopped so spectacularly in league one with Falkirk. The off the field stuff would be the stuff making me uneasy if he was worth signing on the basis of his current form...

I agree. People need to realise than very few sides can get away with a flat 442. With the majority of teams playing three centre midfielders, be it in a 352 or 433, a flat 442 is a surefire way to lose the midfield battle. Even teams playing 343, the wide men in the forward three tend to be midfielders who can drop in to help the two centre midfielders...

Tierney, he ran with the ball, didn't take the easy option of just flinging a cross in...

ECL Fir Park Motherwell v Sligo Rovers 21/07/22
MelvinBragg replied to SteelmaninOZ's topic in Club Chat
There's a lot could be said about tonight but much has been covered so won't go over that. Couple of things I haven't seen mentioned.. Spittal. No doubt some will simply say he was "shite" but it looks like another case of square pegs in round holes. Playing on the left of a 3 man midfield and being so right footed means he was always running into traffic. Swapping Morris and him with Spittal at least cutting in further up the park could have made sense.. Tierney. A bright spark, someone willing to run with the ball and not take the easy way out and simply throw a cross into an area. Fear that we'll never see the beat of him as he never gets enough time to make a difference... And can we please stop with the 433 leaves uou outmanned in midfield. Pretty much every side plays three in midfield. Wide players in a front three can sometimes drop back to make a nominal 5 in midfield. 433 isn't the problem, 352 isn't the problem. It's not having the players to play a formation that's the issue. As I said earlier, square pegs in round holes... -
Because what we really need is another central defender. Suspect the story is nonsense..

Third choice right back played and we still got a clean sheet. Captain and first choice striker didn't play, we still won. Morris got a chance (and Spittal a second chance) to actually play with new team mates in a match situation. Those are positives... Anyone expecting Brazil 1970 when our squad is weaker than last season is kidding themselves. Take the positives you can...
