  1. Butcher was fine at putting the fear into the young lads we had at the time and getting them playing. He was what we needed at the time. His approach would go down like a lead balloon with Lasley, Hammill, Vigours, Sutton et all. And whilst some might think that is no bad thing, we certainly require these guys to get us out of the mess we are currently in. None of the above even takes into account we should have been relegated under his watch, and he managed to get a Hibs team with significant resources relegated last season. He wouldn't be my choice.
  2. I haven't really paid attention to Billy Starks performances with under 21s, but when someone resigns from a safe job when theres another job available...... Of course, it might just be coincidence
  3. Maybe reading too much into it, but Lasley hasn't put anything on twitter about it yet which given he's usually quite active on there, struck me as a bit strange.
  4. I don't think anyone can disagree with you on that one, particularly at this moment in time. Original point still stands, we are halfway there, although will need to pick up a spot in the league.
  5. Blah blah blah, I support the team just fine mate. Who am i saying i told you so too? Someone pipes up the cup doesn't matter this season, i gently remind them that apparantly it really does, because thats all we read on here all summer. If you can't recognise that, then perhaps you too are one of the bellends in our support.
  6. 'accept it' for something that has only happened 3 times in 128 years. Tough crowd we'v got.
  7. Well given we wont get a good league finish, those people are still half way towards what they wished for. Bellend.
  8. Of course it matters, half the bellends on these boards wanted a cup run and a shite league season. Well their half way there.....
  9. Butcher, relegated with hibs, and should have relegated us if it wasnt for falkirks stadium, adams, a moanimg shite, mcgoo walked out on us, broon did so as well and is director at aberdeen. All the names on mcbookie are lazy punts. If you look at Mcghee, gannon, broon, mccall, none of them were active and in the frame in scotland when we got them. I would expect another surprising appointment. From the other names flashed about on this thread, I would expect Coyle and Malky McKay to be pipe dreams, but if Malky was available and looking at it i would take him in a heart beat. Young, ambitious, forward thinking manager, talks very well, experience at a far higher level. Obviously he made some distasteful remarks a while back but everyone deserves a second chance. Also, he has said very complimentary things about McCall and Motherwell in the last few years. Pipe dream i know, but would be a good appointment. Really hope its not Derek Adams!!
  10. Aye, cause for all the hundred plus tears of Motherwell fc, every manager except McCall wins a cup......
  11. When Higgy was top scorer, who had the most assists in the league?
  12. Cheers steelboy. Nice pub, didnt know it would show fitbaw on a Friday night. No doubt i'll have to put up with wallopers in halloween get ups. Might be more entertaining watching them than the game
  13. Dont have BT, would normally stay in Glasgow after work and watch a Friday game there but need to head home first. Anyone know which/any Hamilton pubs will be showing the game?
  14. How much of the £1mill target do we think is a must reach? Is it possible that they put a big target on the board in the hope of getting 40% of it to get the WS where it needs to be? Anyone attending tonight, with or without swag bag?
  15. Aside from the message itself, the other concern is the way its been targeted, or perhaps lack of targeting. Now im sadly not in a position to sink £10k into a football club so no problem me not getting the email. One of my mates however is a business owner, plenty disposable income, does the odd tie in with the club, reasonable funds in the 'well society, and he has not been contacted about this. Thats not to say he would or could contribute, but he's the sort of person who should be asked. Really, if this is going to work, at least target the right people Motherwell!
  16. I think you give some of the Steelmenonline community too much credit here.
  17. So just for the avoidance of doubt, is McCall playing players out of position because he's a shite manager/has nae clue like many on here suggest or, are you saying he's forced into doing it because of injuries? I didn't see much evidence of a settled squad when we lost Randolph, Hately, Law, Humphrey, Ojamma and Higdon but then went on to finish 2nd. 'Some' of the conclusions you reach on these boards i agree with. All too often the points you put forward to justify your arguments are poorly constructed and shoe horned in to fit the agenda you are peddling. My thoughts are, McCall is not a bad manager but the more this run continues, the more precarious his position. Not because we cant crawl out of it, but eventually we will lose the dressing room. The football last year was not pretty. The first 3months were dire but we got through it with a strong defence and scoring the odd goal on the break. This season the defence makes continual mistakes, and theres no attack to speak of. Look at the last two games. Possesion wise we were at least equal with both Aberdeen and Dundee. We ship 4goals, all mistakes and we are lucky if we create chances on target. What we need to do is cut out the defensive mistakes and drill into the players there can be no passengers. That means no josh law. That means McCall has to look vigours and Ainsworth in the eye before he picks the team to make sure they have got their game faces. I didnt go to the Hamilton drubbing but the Dundee game was not a 'classic pumping'. The players are still good enough to compete, they have just forgotten how to create chances and take them.
  18. You might want to try that one again, and remove this little gem...... Where you're argument falls down is that this summer, leading on to our current horrendous situation, was probably the most settled the team has been. Losing 3 players Hutch, Annier and Faddy, only 1 of whom was a nailed on starter, was the best summer we have had in years in terms of outgoings.
  19. Surely to finish, 3rd, 2nd 2nd you have to roll your sleeves up and battle hard for it? And unlike in a cup run of 5-6 games you do it again, and again and again. We have been brutal in cups under McCall, no one can argue otherwise. To start diatribing with tenuous links about sleeves up as if it only applies to cup effort is a terrible argument
  20. How about............he's not been a football manager for who knows how long? or....... he's getting on a bit and there is no indication of whether or not he's progressed his skills and is up to date with modern football management, techniques, strategies etc, or maybe just the fact that he hasn't indicated a desire to get back into football management. Or even there might be better candidates out there who would fancy a crack. Putting aside the above, Tommy may still be a great football manager but it smacks of lazy internet judgement. Who is an old school guy who can work our players, who has a knowledge of the club, who is well thought of at the club....... oh we can get McLean back in some 23 years after he became a legend to replace the only manager who can challenge McLeans achievements in those 23 years.
  21. ^ out of every potential manager who has a coaching badge in the UK, theres only one candidate??? Come on, you can make a better case for someone than pulling out that kind of outrageous statement
  22. The whole Clarkson thing amuses me and just goes to highlight the mentality of our never happy fans. Clarkson scored & set up another goal on Saturday but probably took more abuse from our fans when he actually played for us.
  23. Can't argue with the facts. As you say we were up against pretty poor standards but I think we need to give our club some credit here. If everyone was poor, then there are reasons for it. We were less poor than everyone else. The old saying goes, you can only beat whats infront of you and considering resources, support, investment, we have done a sterling job of late. That super team that we had, how many do you have to inherit and how many do you have to bring in yourself before it's your own team? Remember, the sum is greater than the parts and that team, for all its prowess, did not click into gear until McFadden came on board. I'm thinking that of the starting 11 of that team, Ramsden, Law, Ojamma, McFadden, Higdon, were all McCall players? So, just under 50%. He might not be responsible for the other 6, but he certainly recognised what they needed to supplement the skill base at the club and bring in the required talent. This I agree with. None of us are privy to the exact financial state the club is in on a day to day basis, but we have all seen the press releases and heard about the annual accounts. If relegation would be the final nail in the MFC coffin then we certainly can't afford to gamble if there is any hint McCall has lost the dressing room.
  24. Unless we do well in the Scottish Cup. Remember half the board it would seem would swap our league finish for a relegation dog fight and a decent cup run.
  25. He's crap aye, but doesn't he have a couple of European goals?
