  1. Reading back over my post I should add that pundits may be talking them up due to other teams who would traditionally be considered contenders being so weak such as Hearts, Dundee Utd don't look entirely convincing, Hibs early games have been a disaster. I've not read many pundits accounts on us.
  2. Aberdeen have signed one or two reasonable players but beyon that I honestly don't understand why pundits are putting so much stock in them. On paper I think Hayes, McGinn and Flood are good. Langford, he is a slightly above average SPL keeper, Anderson isn't the player he once was, Reynolds - would he dislodge Hurch or McManus? Robson is 34 and has had recent problems with his knee. The rest of them, Wylde, Zola, shaughnessy, vernon, pawlett, magness etc don't fill me with fear. I might be overconfident but I think we have a squad that shouldn't go into any league game this season thinking we are inferior, and I include Celtic in that.
  3. I don't think folk are being negative, they are just questioning the point when compared against the structure of what we are up against (and bearing in mind we are questioning right after a defeat so apply the apporproate amount of salt) The club themselves have basically said we may make a loss as a direct consequence of this competition. That's wrong if that's the case. It's not to say we don't want to be in the competition. It's not to say we are negative. It's just frustrating, I hope we finish as high as we can again. But we can moan, especially given the bad draw, the result, the circumstances leading to the match regrding squad. and our shared desire to win. Forums aren't meant to be academic, sometimes its the best (and probably the only place) for us to moan.
  4. I agree with what you've said. The way European competition is set out precludes (for the most part) any form of hope and excitement for the likes of us. I mean after this there was another fucking round just to get into it proper. Yet finish 5th or 6th in a powerful European league and there's a high chance your ability (as a consequence of ridiculous finance) will se you there. It's murder. This is probably more of a rant than an educated post, but that's the mood in in.
  5. During the warm ups Gunnar seemed so much more comfortable and confident with cross balls. I've got a feeling Gunnar might oust Hollis soon.
  6. I agree with this. Although we were beaten I think there were a couple of positives. Hollis seemed to gain a good bit of confidence after his save. Vigurs looks like a great signing, Lawson was solid, Hutchison was immense. I'm looking forward to the season. Yes we got beat tonight but I think that team had some real good players particularly 99, 71 and even 7 when he came on. The only thing I left unsure about is what ZFA is meant to be doing. He seems to be ok when on the ball but his vision off the ball and his timidness is odd for a wide player.
  7. I think 2 - 1 Motherwell. Line up of my choice: 1. Neilsen 2. Ramsden 3. Hammel 4. Hutchinson 5. McManus 6. Lawson 7. Vigurs 8. Lasley 9. Sutton 10. McFadden 11. ZFA
  8. £25 - that's a half of a Saturday night out in town. No that bad. It's 2013. Ginger bottles are worth 50p.
  9. Haha. Dundee Utd for second. Maybe even first.
  10. It's no real until someone puts its on Wikipedia.
  11. I'm pretty happy about it all. If Faddy signs, on paper we have a great team. And as others have pointed out, the difference in quality of our signings in comparison to competitors is at the very least noticeable.
  12. McCall really is making a great job of rebuilding. Everyone who signs for us speaks about the great atmosphere at the club. That's probably a large part down to McCall.
  13. Mind Sutton as well. All those names chucked together plus the ones we have, on paper it might even look better than last season...
  14. When did he shit himself? I missed that story.
  15. I played with him at Kirkfieldbank BC way back when we were 14/15. I can't remember but I don't think he was a well fan. There were a few of us in the team that were motherwell fans but I don't think he was one.
  16. Hopefully further up than left back. I always have the fear when a striker/winger is bearing down on him.
  17. Fuck. We had Liam Birdcutt on trial. That would have been a great signing. In hindsight.
  18. A couple more signings and we could have a decent wee team again.
  19. Glad to see big John back. Big handsome bastard.
