According to the clubs official twitter, no. Somebody asked earlier if he was signed up and they said not at the moment. Which suggests negotiations are ongoing and he was training with the rest of the squad this week. He's also still on the official site with number 20, Hateley and Higdon's profiles have been removed. As has McFadden's.

Really? I'd have thought McCall would still have a decent chunk of his budget left after his deals so far. Let's just assume Sutton is picking up roughly whatever Higdon was earning and ditto Vigurs with Law's wage. Although I'd think Vigurs would be on less than Law but for arguments sake lets just say it's similar. Then we've still lost Randolph Hateley Humphrey Ojamaa Saunders Daley Off the wage bill and only brought in Paul Lawson and to be honest I don't imagine we're paying him a great deal. He seemed keen to return to the central belt and I doubt he was on a large amount at Ross County. Randolph, Hateley and Humphrey would have all been fairly big hitters on our wage bill and I can't see Lawson being on that kind of money. We've also lost Kerr, Higginbotham and Faddy although I have no idea how much of their wages we were paying. That's 11 players gone though, I don't expect us to bring anywhere near that many in but having only brought 3 in so far I'd be surprised even with his budget being cut if McCall didn't have room for a few more quality signings. I also get the feeling he's going to go with qualtiy over quantity judging by what he's said in the media and that he will supplement them with our own youngsters. Hence why we tied up Cummins, ZFA, Moore, McHugh & Carswell etc. on long term contracts last season. Guess we'll find out in the coming weeks.

Hardly. We secured 1 more point last season than 11/12 season and you have to remember that includes the 7 points we took of Dundee which we wouldn't have taken off Rangers. We may have scored more goals this season but we were ridiculously top heavy and often left our defence exposed. That's backed up by the fact that in Jennings last season we had the joint best clean sheet record out side the Old Firm with 15. Last season only relegated Dundee kept less clean sheets than Motherwell. I think we got away with not replacing Jennings due to the strength of our attacking options and McCall adopted a you score 3 we'll score 4 approach. Next season we won't get away with being so gung-ho as we're unlikely to have the same attacking quality at our disposal and I think the signing of Lawson suggests McCall realises this. We have been more attacking and better to watch last season but in my opinion we were a better all round unit with Jennings in the team.

McCall hopes to bring in 5 more players, one of them is McFadden. Given up on Higdon and Hateley but hopes to re-sign Sutton. The gist of McCall's press conference to the media.

Omar Daley and Kallum Higginbotham played a grand total of 611 minutes between them in the SPL last season. That's less than 7 full games. Regardless of how or why he left I can't believe anyone could think that Lawless would have been better served staying with us last season instead of going out and getting regular first team football. He was a decent prospect but from what I've seen I wouldn't put him near the same bracket as a Murphy or a Slane. He had a good season last year although it tailed of towards the end and fair play to him but I remained to be convinced. In an ideal world he would have gotten more of a chance but I'll wait to see how he does in the SPL next season before passing any real judgment. Bare in mind both Iain Russell and Stevie Craig hit double figures in the 1st division last season. Lets see if he can make the step up this season.

Perhaps we decided that Lee Miller wasn't worth the money he was after and decided to go for a cheaper alternative who McCall thinks can do the same job. Lee Miller is a decent player who could have done a good job for us but the way you're going on you'd think we'd missed out on Didier Drogba. However until the rest of us find out who this target supposedly is then we all we can make is assumptions. I for one trust McCall's judgment, his signings have been pretty good for the most part and he's made a couple of shrewd signings so far this summer in my opinion. If he thinks Miller isn't worth the money he's after then that's fine by me.
-
You might be right but until we do we don't need another centre half.
-
Where's all this chat about wanting to bring in another centre half coming from? We already have Hutchinson, Ramsden and Cummins for two positions as well the supposedly promising Euan Murray. Where as we have only have one fairly inexperienced keeper, no recognised right back, no right winger and no strikers. Centre back is surely not a priority. Unless we sell Hutchinson, talk of another centre back is surely pointless.

I too am a bit surprised at some people's lack of enthusiasm for Sutton potentially returning. He bagged 43 goals in just 103 starts for us last time round, 12 in 25 under McCall. When you consider we currently have no proven goal scorers signed up for next season you'd think most fans would welcome back someone with a scoring record better than goal every three games during his first spell back with open arms. Aye he's not the flashiest of players and he's a fairly limited footballer but he uses what he does have to good effect. He's worked with McCall before, he knows the club well and most important of all he knows how to put the ball into the back of the net.
-
Or because McCall's style of football suited Sutton. Playing with pace and width and getting balls into the box, that's why Sutton thrived in much the same way Higdon has in my opinion. McCall builds his attack around the big man up front and makes him the focal point of the attack with the purpose of supplying him with chances. He scored 12 goals in 25 games under McCall in his last spell, if he comes back I'd put money on him getting 15 plus goals again.
-
Not for me, for all we talk about him being a good out ball, hard working and offering us width we've coped well without him as well this season. In fact, in two of our best showings at Fir Park this season, the 4-1 pumpings of Aberdeen and Hibs respectively we played some of our best football under McCall IMO and Humphrey didn't feature in either game. Not to say Humphrey didn't play an important part last season, he did but just because he's gone lets not build him up into something he's not. As for Hateley, I'm a fan. Ten goals, over twenty five assists, part of two record breaking Motherwell defences for clean sheets in a single season and he barely missed a game in four years. Would be sorry to see him go but as with Humph if he's to leave then so be it. We shouldn't be held to ransom and if he is on a high wage which Mccall thinks could be better spent elsewhere and he isn't willing to take a pay cut then see ya Tom. Thanks for Odense and the winner in Paisley and four years of good service. And we move on.

Thistle will be at home first. It won't be on a Saturday either due to our European game on the Thursday night.

Saunders: I'm fit and ready to prove McCall wrong Made interesting by... Mistake or exclusive?

Forget Faddy, Motherwell are set to offer another International a return to Fir Park.. My link

Not just dangerous with his left foot.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYFJ1DwCdrM With his right. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBfNyBzBUuE With his bonce. A real variety of goals and a box of tricks whenever I've seen him. Hopefully we wrap it up tomorrow. .

Already stated several times, I'm a big fan. Really hope we sign him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRoiwxMfBls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83yyakjHv-0

Lee Miller does make sense, he is a local boy and we all know McCall likes to have a big man up front and have the others work around him. Miller would fit the bill, don't think he's as prolific as Higdon but I seem to remember him being a bit more mobile with good link up play and perhaps a better all rounder. His record of 45 SPL goals in 149 SPL starts is not bad at all. I think 1 in 3 is a decent strike rate for any Motherwell striker, although we've been extremely lucky with Higdon's exploits this season we can't realistically expect to find another 20 plus goal a season striker for next season. As I said on the previous page, it was the journalist who brought up Blackpool and Preston. I have no reason to doubt the above poster who says he won't be going to either of those teams, although I have no real reason to doubt Scott Burns who is usually pretty spot on with Motherwell stuff. Guess we'll have to wait and see but I certainly think he'd be a decent signing if it did come off.
-
Scott Burns, the guy that had the Paul Lawson scoop and the one with the Vigurs story today has just tweeted that Lee Miller is supposed to be heading for Blackpool or Preston. So that one doesn't look like happening.
-
It's Iain Vigurs, says medical has been passed but talks have been delayed because McCall is on holiday would you believe. Also says St. Johnstone are ready to swoop. Not sure why Mccall needs to be there to talk terms? If he's had a medical he's clearly interested in signing so surely it's a case of Leann Dempster and co thrashing out a deal. Also not sure why McCall needs a holiday, he's already been to Sheffield and Croatia! Will just have to wait and see. Also says Higdon is attracting interest from Barnsley, Doncaster and strangely Hearts.
-
Well he only got the 9 goals and 9 assists last year, and since we've lost the guy with the most assists in the SPL and look like losing the guy with the most goals in the SPL maybe some people see a guy who can chip in with both from midfield as a useful signing? He's skilful, he can score goals(with his left foot, right foot and his head last season a real variety) and he can create chances for his teammates. Of course he's not perfect and not being particularly quick is one of his flaws but if he didn't have flaws he wouldn't be getting linked with us and would be playing at a higher level. I for one enjoy watching him play and it's not too often I say than about other teams SPL players. And I for one would love to see him at Fir Park next season. Just my opinion though.
-
Signed for fuck all... 18 months, 13 goals and over 15 assists later we sell him for a six figure sum. Sad to see him go but it's good business for the club and route we should contintue to look down. Plenty of players out there who just need a platform to shine. Hopefully McCall find a few more like him. Cheers Henrik, it's been a blast.
-
Off all the players mentioned over the last few pages Wylde is the one I'm least enthused about potentially signing. I remember him being quick but he didn't have a lot else about him, I think he's just another Burchill or Fleck who was built up into something he's really not. And while pace is a valuable asset in the SPL as Humphrey showed, Wylde won't come cheap and to be honest I wouldn't be in any rush to go over the odds to try and match what Aberdeen or Hibs will offer. I'd take a punt on him if he'd come for a reasonable price but I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives of similar quality out there. Scott Allan, Lee Miller & Iain Vigurs - Would be delighted with any of those 3, although I doubt any of them will come off. I'd put good money on our next signing being someone who hasn't even been mentioned on here yet.
-
Vigurs would be a terrific signing, very skilful player who came close to hitting double figures for both goals and assists last season for County(he finished with 9 &9). Sadly as much as I'd love us to sign him you've got to think there's little to no chance of us actually getting him as he'll surely get better offers. Good to hear the young lads will be getting a chance next season. When Higdon goes we cant possibly expect to find another 25 plus goal a season striker, I personally think any main Motherwell striker should be aiming for around the 15 goal mark. Then hopefully the likes of McHugh and hopefully Moore can chip in with some goals here and there next season to try and compensate for the loss of Higdon's goals. Even 10 or so goals between them could make a huge difference.

Chris Humphrey snubs Rangers to join Preston SPL rivals Motherwell and Aberdeen go head-to-head for Gregg Wylde
