Well someone had to say it. Shaun Hutchinson has been piss poor for the most part this season and has cost us a fair number of goals including last night. If Craigan, Reynolds or Clancy had made as many mistakes as Hutchinson has this season they'd be getting dogs abuse on here. Not big Hutch though, much easier to point the finger at Cummins, Kerr, Hateley etc. for our shit defence, even though Hutchinson has been at fault as much as anyone for our shoddy defence this season. Ducks for cover..

Calderwood's 'tactics' were often called into question by Aberdeen fans, he was also seen as negative in his time there. As manager his Aberdeen team crashed out of the Scottish cup at home to 1st division Dunfermline, papped 4-3 in a Scottish Cup semi against 1st division Queen of the South, out the League Cup at the first attempt to 3rd division amateur side Queens Park to name but a few occasions where he failed to motivate his team in big games. They also got pumped 4-1 in a CIS cup semi against United under his stewardship as well. Few decent bargains like Dave Bus? Tommy Wright? Stuart Duff? and other random shite. He spunked a fair amount of money at Aberdeen including half a million pounds on Barry Nicholson & Stevie Lovell. What did he have to show for it? One good run in the UEFA cup where they fluked their way through winning only one game in the process and some top six finishes. They only finished best of the rest once and failed to make a single cup final. Replacing McCall with Calderwood is a laughable suggestion. The guy left Kilmarnock because ''I couldn't fulfil my ambitions under those financial limitations''. Fuck knows what he'd think of having our budget. McCall shoudn't be sacked because he's done a good job on the whole, I doubt any manager we could afford could have achieved more with the limitations he's had placed on him. And the day he does leave be that sooner or later I'd much rather the club went down the same route we went down with McCall/Gannon than appointing someone like Jimmy Calderwood.
-
Jimmy Calderwood? What could Jimmy Calderwood bring to the role McCall couldn't, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this MJC.

Unbelievable. Shaun Hutchinson was terrible last night, was all over the place at the back, his distribution was awful and he gave the ball away for fun and it was Hutchinson who lost the ball that led to us being caught out for the 2nd goal. Yet because he charged about like a bull in a china shop fans seems to lap it up. He's been poor all season and has cost us far too many goals. Without an old head there to hold his hand he will continue to cost us goals as he's a loose cannon. You're quick to point the finger at Craigan but Hutchinson hasn't looked half the player this season as he was last without Craigan/Clancy there to keep him under control and guide him through games.
-
Randolph the only possible option. Deserved better than the shite he had infront of him.
-
Hammell, Ojamaa, Hutchinson, Cummins and Lasley are all commited beyond next year and they were as shite as everyone else. Only Randolph(who's out of contract btw) for me can hold his head high after tonight.

Andy Webster - 27 caps Gary Kenneth - 2 caps(thanks to Levein) Zander Diamond - 0 Caps Bit of a difference. Not to mention Webster was part of the last team to split the OF, captained Dundee United to 3rd place and the Scottish cup and was nominated for PFA player of the year for the season he had there and has since went back to Hearts and got another 3rd place finish and another Scottish cup. He's a far better player than the one's you've mentioned and for me a better defender than anything we have. Would love to have him at Fir Park. However as has already been said we have absolutely no chance of getting him.
-
If Sevco, Aberdeen, Dundee United or any Championship team doesn't come in for him. Which is unlikely as he's a very good defender albeit injury prone, won't be short of offers.
-
Grainger and Taouil wouldn't improve our team. Zaliukas and/or Webster are the only Hearts players I'd say would improve our team but we couldn't come close to signing either of them who'll both be on about 5k a week at Hearts. Edit- McGowan I forgot about is a decent player as well, but he'll be away down south or to Sevco again for far more than we could afford.
-
Love how you make Saunders out to be overrated and never on par with 'Big Hutch' then in your description of Saunders you basically just describe Hutchinson. There is a Motherwell defender who is massively overhyped on here and it ain't Steven Saunders.
-
Good point about compensation. Still think this 'rumour' is a load of shite.
-
Really? Where to? Can't see us releasing him because his contracts up at the end of the season and we'd be due a decent amount of compensation if he left as he's been here since he was 16. And after his injuries I can't see another team paying money for him. And surely we're not going to let him go for free? I fucking well hope not anyway.
-
Sorry have I missed something here? When did McCall say Saunders was being punted?
-
Again, the same could be said for all the defenders at the club. Look at Cummins against ICT where he was caught wrong side and lost Foran for their goal, basics. Hutchinson where he went flying in for a header he had no chance of winning at Tannadice and let Daly in to score, basics. Our biggest problem is that we have four centre halfs, two are in their teens and are going to be prone to errors and bad games, one who's a League 2 player in his 30's prone to injuries and Steelmen Online's boy wonder who despite the fanfare on here is a rash defender and has been as culpable as any for the number of soft goals we've lost this season. The centre of our defence is soft as shit regardless of which two of the four you pick and it doesn't help that they don't get protected particularly well by the midfield in front of them, hence why we've kept two cleansheets all season.
-
Could say same for every defender at the club this season.
-
Another late goal costs us, just don't seem to have the bottle/nous to see these games out like we did last season. On the plus side it sounds as though we didn't play too well and even though last minute goals hurt at least we're still in the cup. Should have Hutch and Randolph back for the replay as well. Hopefully do these c***s in the replay.
-
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasss
-
That's the bench, if Kerr or Cummins get's injured(or even sent off) who goes to centre half?
-
Kerr and Cummins at centre half.
-
It was deemed violent conduct which means his ban will cover all domestic competitions.
-
A third of his goals in the SPL last season came with his head. Four of his Thirteen goals in total(31% roughly) last season came with his head. I would say he's decent in the air, scored some cracking headers for us in his time.
-
Aye that's what to do, get rid of him. Never mind his consistent performances over the last three years rarely missing a game, his 10 goals and over 20 assists predominantly from right back, part of two record breaking Motherwell defences in terms of cleansheets. He's having a bad few months so let's punt him.

From off the top of my head: Higdon had a header saved by their keeper from Humphrey's cross in the 1st half Murphy putting Higdon 1 on 1 with their keeper but Higdon tried to go round him instead of shooting, Murphy's rebound was blocked for a corner. Murphy putting a free header from about 10 yards out over the bar from a Hateley corner. Humphrey hit the bar(yes I know it was a shit cross). Humphrey cut inside after roasting the full back and forced another decent save by their keeper. From the resulting corner Ojamaa's knock down should have been buried by Higdon who sclaffed his volley from 12 yards out. Can only mind Randolph's save from Stevenson's freekick and the free header at the corner at the end for Hearts right enough. Yeh we weren't great and Hearts came for a point and it was a fairly dull match but come on to fuck it wasn't that bad. We put in plenty of performances like that each and every season. They're are part and parcel of football. I can think of many a dull 0-0 and other such games we've been involved in over the years and created less chances than we did today and indeed been less chances in the match as a whole. None of the above chances were 'great' chances apart from maybe Higdon's two in the 2nd half but even if we'd taken just one of those on another day we could have gone on to score a few more goals and won comfortably. I'd actually argue this game was a better overall game than the one at Tynecastle just a few weeks ago actually for example. I think the OP and some people on here in general are overeacting to a shit game but they happen all over the world. I sat and watched Arsenal against Villa also today and it was every bit as dull as our game. Never mind the fact that there were plenty of players on that pitch earning more this week than our boys earn in a year it was shit, dull game devoid of excitement. They happen in every league, every week all over the world.

There's no point worrying, if they want to stay they'll stay, if they want to go they'll go and there's not much we can do to stop them. However you try asking Randolph or Law for example to at best stay on their current wages at a level beneath them instead of furthering there careers elsewhere for four or five times as much money and I'll bet you'll get a very quick answer. These guys are great to have but like all players that are a cut above that play for Motherwelll, chances are they won't be here for very long. You either get these guys for a fairly short period of time or not at all, they have no intention of spending the majority of there careers here. We are simply seen as a platform to better things. Which is fine by me cause guys like Randolph more than deserve a shot at the big time with the service he's given us. My advice is enjoy them while they're here and let McCall/Dempster deal with the rest.
