  1. Crawford had another excellent game, and did well to win the penalty, but 2 goals and an assist should make you a stick on for MotM, so Cole gets it for me.
  2. Another really good performance, with everyone playing their part again. I would have been tempted to bring in Gallagher for this one, but fair play to Alexander for sticking with the winning team. The defense was pretty solid throughout, and Kelly proved his worth once again with a great save just before half time. Shout out to Carroll for that last ditch block in the 2nd half as well. The midfield 3 work well together, with all of them running themselves ragged again, and Crawford is getting better each game. It will be interesting to see if any of the 3 start for us next season. Up front it was the same as last week, all 3 kept pressing and forcing mistakes, and Cole has started to actually keep hold of the ball and is growing in confidence. I thought long did well when he came on, and took his chance really well. He was unlucky to be brought off, but it was the only change that made sense at that point. I'd say were safe now, as 3+ wins for the bottom two over us doesn't seem likely at all, but I'll celebrate when the numbers confirm it. Its been a weird season.
  3. Am I a genius? Tune in next week to find out.
  4. Had Roberts lasted the 90 I would have gone for him. He ran himself into the ground and linked with Watt and Cole really well. I went for Lamie though. He was absolutely solid.
  5. I think it was in reaction to hibs getting a corner that wasn't. Alexander and Polworth must be Malcolm Tucker-esqe in their swearing.
  6. Can't fault anyone today. We were as solid in defence as I've seen us, and the front three worked really well together, with all three running themselves into the ground again. I thought mcginley was solid when he came on in a difficult situation, and handled Boyle well. The midfield three were also very good, all doing ther jobs and winning a majority of 2nd balls. Crawford keeps improving. Lawless and dec added the experience we needed to get through the last 20 mins. It makes a big difference having decent players on the bench. Mathematically were still in the dogfight, so no time for letting up, but if we keep up that level of fight, we will be safe. A far cry from the situation last week after those two abject performances, a great reaction from pretty much the same XI.
  7. It's been a good half from us. Hibs are a big threat on the break, but so far we've handled it ok and our front 3 are all holding the ball up pretty well. A bit more composure and we could have maybe been 2 up. Their defence is pretty shaky. Doidge looked reckless there with the challenge on Carroll, hopefully hes ok and the sub was just a precaution.
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same XI as wednesday. Mainly because there isn't anyone ready to come back in. I don't expect much from Easter road at the best of times, and we will be up against it, but we could scrape something from this game if we build on the solid work from midweek. It would be nice if we could score.
  9. A lot of the comments on his attitude aren’t based on much other than he looks grumpy all the time. For some players injuries and dips in form are accepted, but for others there has to be more to it. He’s shown he can finish when he’s played through the middle, and he puts in plenty of work when out on the wing. Plenty of us were happy to see him come back this season, but he hasn’t done so well this time around. He is better through the middle, so I’d prefer if we used him there either from the start or as a sub, and use real wingers on the wings.
  10. I haven't been a big fan of Crawford or Lamie, but I thought they were both solid today. Lamie in particular as he had to deal with Magloire feeling his way into the game, which he eventually did and put in a good performance himself. The key was sticking to the basics and not asking the players to do things they cant do, and as a result we looked way more organized and composed. I was worried that we would come into this one shell shocked after those games, fair play to Alexander for setting them up to grind out a decent result.
  11. Fair point there. We looked the better team in general, but St Mirren forced the good save from Kelly and the great block by Carroll at the end. A wee but of luck might have seen us win it, but after those last two games that was a good performance to see. I would have been happy with a better performance and a point, so I'll take it. Roberts played well, his pace helped us a lot and he was willing to take a chance from distance, and Cole came onto a better game in the second half. Watt was Watt. Campbell in that advanced role really makes the difference, and that was some amount of work he put in after coming back from illness.
  12. Can't fault the effort at this point, and we've definitely opted for the no nonsense approach.
  13. Better squad than I expected with Campbell and lawless back, but still a weak lineup. Hoping we can scrape something out of this one. Will be interesting to see what Robert's can do.
  14. I know things aren't going great, but I wouldn't be playing 3 defenders out of position as a way to solve it. For me, a back 3 of McGinley, Lamie and Magloire, with Watt and Cole in a front 2 is as drastic as I can see the changes getting. It's entirely possible we could start tomorrow with SOD for Johnstone the only change, which is scary.
  15. Can someone conspiracize this one for me? I don't have the imagination.
  16. We would survive, but it would be rubbish. No doubt we'd have to cut back on a lot of things, but hopefully we would stick by our academy for a while. It was said at the AGM that we have things in place to cut costs should relegation occur, which I assume is either wage cuts or contract termination clauses triggered by relegation. We are in a decent position in that we're not sitting with any bad multi-year contracts, but still have a nucleus of a team contracted for next season. I do want to apologize for causing this whole thing though. We had our great spell under McLean and Mcleish when I lived in england, and then nearly got relegated when I moved back. Now I'm close to moving back from the states it seems I've triggered the doomsday scenario again. But you know, new grounds and stuff.
  17. That was one of my favourite seasons supporting Motherwell, outside of all the dross there were some great moments, i was young and naive, and I think that was my first and only season where I made every game. I think that was also the year I sent Alex Mcleish a letter recommending that he sign players from Africa, perhaps inspired by Tony Yeboah, and he replied to me on a post it note.
  18. Maybe he had an extension clause in his contract that kicked in after a defined number of feet used to take corners was met?
  19. Points on the board matter, we can't change what's already happened, and it's still 100% in our hands. So at this point, even though the situation feels dire, I'm saying no.
  20. Looks like we're going to have to keep ourselves up since no one is going to do it for us, which is incredibly inconvenient.
  21. Amazing. I'm starting to believe this is just not our season :-)
  22. Jordan white showing he can foul consistently for any team. Although i did notice him winning 2 headers, so good for him.
  23. He also supports both Celtic and Rangers at the same time, and thinks we play in yellow and burgundy.
  24. Both Polworth and Crawford were trying to get on the ball yesterday but had no options once they had it. The defense was also very hesitant to play the ball, giving St J time to cut out their options. We are very static on and off the ball and are easily nullified, and teams can pretty much snuff out our creativity by stopping Polworth. There were a few occasions where Polworth tried to force the issue by beating his man just to make something happen to no avail. He also had our sole shot of the game, despite us having 3 strikers in the pitch. I think we’ve all decided that he can’t be arsed, because simply being out of form isn’t enough. He tracks back often enough and doesn’t hide when out of possession, but unsurprisingly his defensive skills are that of an attack minded player. Players like him are going to stand out when they have bad games, compared to headless chickens that run all day and get the plaudits. I think he’d be at his best with a front 2 in front of him, rather than a spread out 3. As it stands we have a poorly constructed squad and an injury situation that has exposed it further. I’m not buying that players who are already on modest wages have decided to deliberately forfeit win bonuses by being shite, in the hope that this somehow gets them a move to a better club. Or that someone is blowing his chance of playing at a rare international tournament by not playing due to to the risk of a contract extension at a club that hardly has to be asked twice to sell its players. Players low in confidence or out of form can be hesitant, and that’s what we’re seeing. I remember when Hutchison took over the club there was a lot of talk about the injuries and investing in avoiding them. I’m not sure what we can realistically do, but the number of training injuries is ridiculous. As for recruitment? If we keep the current staff I’d like to know how we measure their success.
