  1. Hartley got the equalizer in that game and got us a point we probably didn’t expect, so I dont think his comments are a factor in his current status.

In addition to his injuries he was unable to play alongside Aldred (as the left side of the 3) or force his way into the center.  Then we went to a back 4 reducing his chances further.  By all accounts he is training well, but it’s hard to see him replace Dunne since his distribution is worse and he’s slower.

He hasn’t had a run of games in a long time, so it’s hard to judge his ability on the odd game he has featured in. He’s probably still good enough to do a decent job for us, but that might not be enough to justify his salary, which must be close to the highest on our books.

  2. Part of our model is signing players with raw attributes that can’t be coached (in this case pace) and hoping we can coach the rest. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it won’t.

Saturday is going to be a terrible game, and it’s probably a good thing that it won’t be on the live stream. Despite all the chat after the hearts game, the only change will be Carroll in for Grimshaw.

Did sloth enter fir park via the Holm Kraska door?

  3. Going to be all over the papers tomorrow now that you’ve leaked that.

If this link works it should show all the out of contract strikers on transfermrkt. I would like us to sign Norbert Balogh and Walter for their names. Norbert is also the tallest in the list.

  4. Everyone is missing a Higdon or a Moult, but we do need someone who offers the ability to win the ball and hold it up. We don’t have the midfield set up to rely on three quick guys trying to get in behind, and Scott is still raw.

I’d have lafferty any day, but think it’s beyond us.

  5. We had a good first 25 minutes, but I was surprised that it took that long for Celtic to adjust tactically, and disappointed that we didn’t know what to do once they pressed us when Gillespie had the ball.

I don’t think setting up defensively gets us anything, so was happy to see us try to play our own game. The pace of the front three caused them problems for much of the first half, but we couldn’t make anything out of it.

Their first goal was terrible from us, Tait got roasted and Dunne couldn’t cover. Conceding from that free kick was also  disappointing, and that’s the first bad game  I think I’ve seen Gillespie have. If he’s unable to play the ball long when needed teams are just going to do what Celtic did and force him to go long, which is going to be fruitless with the forward options we have.

After their third all bets were off, we were pushing to try and get back into it and they just picked us off.

Polworth looks like he’s going to be a solid signing, but I still think we need a different option up front.

For a defender/def mid, Donnelly really is composed in and around the opposition box, he has had some really good finishes this year and had a decent enough game.

Overall I’m not going to make snap judgements for the season based on a game against Celtic. However from the two league games so far it is clear that the wingers aren’t going to run riot, and our defense isn’t as good as our record before this game suggests.

  6. Cadds will be fine, Columbus is a big college town. If my experience is anything to go by,  he won’t have any language issues as long as he never has to go through the captain d’s drive through or order water.

He will get asked about haggis in his first interview.

  7. I think we’re pretty thin on wingers and strikers in the reserves/u18s, so this looks like a relatively low risk move to give us some depth in a key position.

Johnson seems to be the odd one out, not being particularly quick or dynamic and unable to play up front alone. He’s a decent finisher, so will prob get some goals for someone.

  8. We took advantage of the rule being different for cross border transfers, as both coke and porter would have commanded a fee if they moved to an English club. I see the Cadden situation as similar in that clubs worked something out to their favour within the existing system.

  9. It would have been genius if we did the same. Seem to remembering us shafting an English team when we signed Chris Porter, and I’m sure a few more.

We’ve had some good fortune on the transfer front recently (Heneghan, Kipre, Moult, Johnson), but this time we’ve lost out.  Our development of Cadden wasn’t wasted, we got 100 games out of him. That’s a pretty decent return on investment.

  10. That Morton keeper is woeful, very Samson-esque with his refusal to catch a ball.  Their left back should have been sent off twice, some absolutely wild tackles.

Hylton has a really good game, the ball seemed to stick to him out on the left flank and that was a great finish for his goal. Scott should have had a hat trick, but those two goals will be great for his confidence.

seedorf is crazy fast, he’s going to be fun to watch, and illic looked handy when he came on.

Donnelly is doing ok, but he was wasteful a few times, similar to McHugh at his worst without the ability to win headers. Nice finish though.  Polworth played well, but Morton seemed to give him acres of space all first half. Interesting to see Maguire in midfield for the last 20 or so.

I really like the look of Gallagher, solid player.
