Looks like a 4-3-3 with lasley in for Laing. Don't see Grimshaw playing on the right.

I mind Adams first goal, he brought it down on the edge of the six yarder and finished from a tight-ish angle. From then on in he was pretty much used in midfield, where he did a decent job. Toastie had a decent career, with some good seasons at the top level. What's the story with junior burns? I've heard a lot about him being a hard luck story.

I also had high hopes for Denham, which ended after that game against Ayr Utd where he was absolutely roasted. I mind the 0-0 game against rangers, I thought it was Ritchie that got mom though?

Since talking about the past seems to be more popular than dealing with what's being served up currently, I was thinking about players I thought were going to be a big deal, but ended up falling by the wayside. This stemmed from watching the Flamurtari highlights the other day, and seeing Mchugh, Slane and Forbes all score. I never thought Mchugh would amount to much, but the other two looked like they were going to join the production line of top left footed players form MFC, but Slane went to Celtic and turned out to be a total banger, and Forbes just didn't have the pace to compete in the top division. From an earlier era, I thought that we'd done a great piece of business getting Stevie Nicholas from Stirling Albion. He had just recently roasted Hibs, and it looked like we were going down the route of picking up the best from the lower leagues (Derek Adams was signed around the same time after scoring a barrow load for Ross County in partnership with Neil Tarrant). The guy always showed flashes, but it just it just didn't click.

Ainsworth and hammell injured, other than that a full squad to pick from.

I'm surprised this wasn't better attended. Maybe next time scheduling it for after a Saturday home game might be more popular? Assuming the club helped with promotion. One thing I feel that the club is poor at is promoting our past, and generating a bit of nostalgia. The podcast has done a great job of that so far, and deserves more support. If the well society saw this as a networking opportunity they really dropped the ball here, as they should have done more to bring people in.

We paid 100k for Iain Ferguson, fees in the early 90s were silly due to no Bosman ruling.

Is any of it getting recorded for a podcast?

If the bois and HHES want to gain any traction with their protests, they need to do a far better job of engaging the folk who are indifferent to their plight. This thread has shown that currently they are miles away from achieving this. It may be worth trying to look at this from the point of view of the average supporter, who really just wants to watch their team play football and doesn't feel the need to jump around or sing. What they see is every now and then some supporters run on the pitch, let off flares, etc, and therefore are hardly surprised when they hear of fans getting lifted. Then on the occasion when the bois have been hard done by, it's difficult to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Since the best game thread is going well, I thought it might be interesting to see what people view as the best individual performance they have seen in claret and amber. I missed most of Davie Cooper's tenure, so I'm sure there were some games where he absolutely roasted the opposition. I'm guessing faddy might feature in a few submissions too but I can't for the life of me pick out one game that stands out. I'll add an honorable mention of Davide Fererre, who (as I recall) came on as a second half sub against Hibs, either cracked the bar or narrowly missed from about 40 yards, then scored the exact same goal three times (played in on the right hand side of the box, one touch to set up, then drilled across the goal under the keeper). I'd put about 80% of this down to how terrible Hibs were, and he did nothing after that, but still one to remember. Don't think it's on youtube, which is a shame.

I have a feeling that once McGhee takes in a couple of u20 games, we may see a couple of guys given a chance. I dont think Cadden is too far away, and watt must be close to a comeback too.
-
Might be reading too much between the lines, but I get the impression McGhee thinks our squad is shite.

There was absoluteley no movement up front on the few times we had the ball, and our general passing was terrible. Both Laing and Grimshaw had terrible first touches, and chalmers did nothing to fill me with confidence. God knows what has happened to Johnson, but he showed nothing to suggest that he was ever a threat. Part of this may be that he is better suited to making runs wide and being played in by the midfielders, instead of working from deep. The scoreline flattered us too, with us getting away with 2 stonewall penalties.

Forgot this one, the game where Jamie Dolan had to go in goal, Billiy Davies scored a header, Andy Roddie had a good game, and Ian Ross scored the winner. Somehow my mate missed every goal, he was seething. I miss the games too. Even the cold 0-0s at Rugby Park and Pittodrie.

The Scottish cup game where he curled it in from the right? Think mcskimming also scored that day.

I'm not paying $15 a month to watch a max of 3 Motherwell games, so it will be a stream for me. Wish the old "live stream for overseas fans" idea didn't die a death along with MFC.tv

I can remember the occasion of the 91 cup final, but not really the game. The best single match I've attended would be the CIS semi final against hearts at Easter road in 2005. My son was born a few weeks earlier, so my brother and I had a few pre match shots to celebrate. That year was when this board was probably at its peak, and the cup run added to it, and the atmosphere in the ground was great. The whole occasion of the semi was awesome, and the game itself encapsulated all that is Motherwell, with us throwing away a lead then leaving it to an unlikely hero to pull it back. Then slating said hero for the remainder of his tenure. Still can't find any decent highlights online to share, although many of us have the dvd, which I'm going to fire on now since I'm working from home.

I notice that Falkirk stream live games for non-uk residents, is there a reason why they can do this and we can't?
-
I'm more interested in seeing who plays, and if there is a reaction from the squad, than the result to be honest. The same goes for next week. Taking points from both is possible, but most of us have written these games off. It will also be nice to see a game for a change, at breakfast time.

I do prefer McGhee's interviews to Bara's, as he at least comes across as having a clue.

In years gone past we would have hired and fired folk in non manager positions and no one would have cared less. Same goes for administrative staff. As much as I like hearing all that goes on at the club, it can work against them when they make a big deal about recruiting guys, for them to disappear without comment. Anyone know if we replaced the head of recruitment?
-
We were doing the same for the last guy I'm sure.
-
Always good to see who turns it on after phoning it in for the last couple of months.
-
What influence could burrows realistically have had? He was interviewed by the football committee and the owner, after touting himself for the job in the paper. He was hardly dragged out of obscurity.

Comebacks are what we do, so I agree.
