Rangers fans probably wetting themselves at the prospect of replacing us in the top division, getting Lionel and Marv, and each getting a Motherwell fan as a personal slave. But I doubt it will be that serious, prob a fine and a warning.
7 signings/ re-signings is a fair amount, and we also extended law, Pearson, watt and Thomas before the end of last season.
We have two spots left to fill and one of them is a backup as las and Pearson will start when fit. This leaves goalie, which I assume is going to be a loan so will probably be closer to the end of the window. I'd rather we brought in our own keeper though.
If they had spaced the announcements out a bit more there would probably be less worry.
Last off season was a failure, but I don't think many people were complaining at the time, since we just finished 2nd and we had no money. Then we had to wait until the winter window to make signings because we had just changed owner.
Dan is barely shorter than Randolph. Whether he's good or not is up for debate, but he's no midget.
I hope we get a better no1 but we're in a decent position having Dan as a backup until we find one.
McCall's signing policy brought us one of the best teams we've had, but I'd agree that his taste in goalie was poor.
I would expect that the goalie will be one of our loan signings, and due to that we will probably have to wait until the end of this window as that is when loans tend to happen.
I hope that the new CM will be a permanent signing considering the ages/contracts of las and pearo. It would be nice to have someone ready to step in.
The whole 'bulking up' thing is getting old, and there are too many not so muscular great players to mention. Even then, every one of our players is going to be missing something, and sticking Dom Thomas on the weights for a year isn't going to suddenly make him a better player. Good players know their own strengths and how to use them, and good coaches at every level make the most of the strengths of their players.
Last season we had Sutton, Erwin, skippy, Moore, McHugh, with only Sutton available for the whole year. Now we have clarkson, Moore, moult, and fletcher, so I think we need one more for cover.
I'm not too happy with the options, but I'd be surprised if we added another right back with us having just re-signed law and extended watt. I expect that the minimum of 3 will include a goalie, center half, center mid.
