  1. Remember that Hughes and Porter's wages were part-covered by JB from his pocket though. I honestly don't see that being an option this time round.

    Well Worth It!

Do I need a code to be able to renew my season ticket online? May not be able to get in to the ticket office before the game on Saturday.
  3. Game of the season: Away to Hearts on the opening day. That game had plenty of goals and a great atmosphere. Could have gone either way but it was non-stop entertainment. Goal of the season: Sutton v Rangers. What a finish. Closely followed by Hughes at Tynecastle in March. Player of the season: I'm between David Clarkson and Graeme Smith here. Clarky probably just shades it considering his highest haul of goals yet and his overall attitude. Buzz has had a great season IMO. Made tons of crucial saves and not had too many clangers to speak of. A much more disciplined performance this year. I'm also pleased with the way he's got on with things despite wanting to leave this summer, behaved very professionally. Best moment: Quinn's keepy-ups in Nancy followed by Buzz's penalty save. That moment felt like we'd won the UEFA cup! Worst Moment: Hamilton away in December. It looked at that point like we were in for another relegation dogfight with very little hope to be had. Surprise of the year: Paul Quinn at left-back. Keith Lasley at right-back. David Clarkson at left-mid. Some of the positional decisions this year have been baffling to say the least. Worst player of the year: Bob Malcolm. Any time he actually did play he looked miles off the pace. What a waste of money. Young player of the year: Jim O'Brien. Although he only contributed to the second half of the season, he made a spot in the team his own and has shown a lot of promise. On a decent pitch he could be huge next year. Overall: Tough to take after last season's finish and slightly worrying for next year with the number of players we're losing. There's definitely potential in the squad, just hoping that playing on grass can help us get back to a higher level. Feel bad for Mark Reynolds who's not had the best season but I think everyone and their dog can see that for someone his age who's only missed a handful of games in 3 seasons it's perfectly understandable for his form to suffer. If he's still here after summer, here's hoping he is given a chance to rest a bit, maybe some more competition from the other young lads will allow him to miss some games and get back to top form.
  4. Are you not about the only person in Luxemburg?!?

In the position Caley are in, they can't really afford to drop their best players for the sake of pride. Imagine where they'd be if they'd stopped playing Ian Black for signing a pre-contract with hearts?

    No wipe situation?
  8. It was in the Motherwell News email that gets sent out on Monday mornings. Good on Clarky for getting the armband, here's hoping he gets a goal or two and all our lads out in a decent performance.
  9. Bang on weeyin. There's so much negativity around here these days that goes beyond the disappointment of missing out on top 6. The knee-jerk reaction so prevalent after every loss seems to be to get rid of this player and that and that nobody's good enough for us. I'm as upset as the next person that we're not in the top 6 and I believe the manager has to take his fair share of that but the fact of the matter is that some players will move on, some won't but most of the player we have now will still be here next season. We don't have some magical entitlement to get a European place and we've struggled this year. I worry a bit about what our squad will look like next season but with a budget as tight as ours the manager has an extremely difficult job on his hands.
  10. Sutton is a good player if used in the right way. Unfortunately, we haven't been playing to his style. We've asked him to take the Porter role, something he's out everything into but just isn't suited to. Get him in and around the box and he'll score goals no problem. We just don't utilise him to the best effect. As for O'Brien, since Christmas he's been consistently good (aside from some shocking crossing) and hopefully can improve in the right ways over pre-season. There's no denying we need a couple of quality players though and possibly more depending on who leaves.
  11. I'm not referring to the Rangers game specifically (although I did think he was our best player) but since he has been back to fitness (coinciding with our good run) the impact he has on games is plain to see. Whenever we pick up the ball anywhere on the pitch, Hughes is the one making himself available and trying to find the pass to kick off a move. When we don't have the ball, his work rate is tremendous and I've lost count of the number of times this season he's come steaming back from an advanced position to put in an important tackle before looking to start another move. He works a lot harder than you would expect for a "creative" player. Okay, so he's not got the sheer power of Klimpl but Hughes always chases men down and is always looking to receive the ball and kick something off. What more do you want from a box-to-box player?
  12. I think you're spot on with that Lobey. I've said before that I think Hughes is the most talented player in the squad and when he plays well, he really drives the team. He struggled before christmas due to injury but just look at his performances over the last few months when he's been back to full fitness. At this point, I think he's the key player we have to try and keep, even in front of Klimpl.
  13. Hughes for me. Head and shoulders above the rest. It's amazing what a driving force he is to this team when he's fit and I really worry about our ability to keep him for next season. Getting Klimpl would be great but I believe top priority has to be trying to keep hold of Stephen Hughes.
  14. That was my first time at Ibrox and I have to say I was appalled at the so-called policing. They were all over the young Well lads who were just singing and having a bit of banter and didn't seem to be doing anything wrong. When I was walking in the copper asked me if I had any bottles etc and I said "naw mate, I'm from Motherwell, I'm not a Rangers fan". Just watched the highlights on the BBC and I'm even more disappointed. I've already mentioned the foul by Boyd pulling McLean back before the first goal but what I didn't realise and has been said above is that he was miles offside when he nodded it forward. Don't think we can complain about the penalty. Mendes was always going down but McLean came across him enough that the ref, in his position, really had to give it. I think they have to keep us in at the end because half of Ibrox is already away by the time the full whistle goes. Part-timers.
  15. what pissed me off was that I felt our players were fouled in the buildup to their first 2. The 1st goal, Boyd was pulling McLean all over the place. The 2nd, he jumped straight over the back of one of our players, something we had been penalised for about a minute before. Frustrating.

    Now We Know

Why a heavy win? Hibs are 1 point ahead aren't they? So if we win on Saturday then goald difference won't matter as a draw wouldn't be enough for Hibs.
  17. I will be renewing my ticket as although we have been frustrating at times and performed way below our capabilities, it's still Motherwell and I wouldn't know what else to do with my Saturdays! I've voted frozen for the prices, not because of whatever league position we end up in, just because of the general financial climate and the fact that a lot of people will be struggling to make the fee this year. I do worry a bit for next season if we fail to make the top 6. Some of our bigger players may look elsewhere to play their football and unless McGhee could pull off some big signings a'la Porter and Hughes, we could find ourselves back to struggling to try and reach the top 6. There's still hope though and the rollercoaster continues!
  18. All over. We need to win on Saturday. Do that and as long as Hibs don't beat Rangers, we're in the top 6. A nervy weekend awaits! Saints should have had it wrapped up though.
  19. I still have a sneaky feeling that we'll take something on Saturday. I'm more worried about the St. Mirren match!
  20. They also made Aberdeen look like they were actually at the match! I find it to be the same old story with the BBC's "highlights" every week, totally unreflective of the actual match. Both goals were well taken but I've got to ask about Smith's positioning for the Aberdeen goal. I know it was leathered in but should he not be doing better there? Thought we played well but it just reminded me of a number of matches last season when we just couldn't get the ball in the net. Here's hoping Saints can do us a favour next week!
  21. Pretty much my whole family are either Well fans or not interested in football. Was born in Lanark and spent my early days in Motherwell/Wishaw but moved up to bandit country and grew up with the sheep from the age of about 2/3. My dad kept me on the straight and narrow and I resisted the temptation to follow the sheep or rangers like everyone else up north and stuck to the Well. It paid off and watching the 91 cup final on tv was the payoff. Didn't get to actually go to a match until much later on and my first game at Fir Park was against Dundee United as a teenager in the 90's. I did get to see the Well play my local team, Forres Mechanics in a pre-season friendly which was a leisurely stroll for the boys in C & A. By this point I was known as the only Motherwell fan in school, some said the world! In fact, upon our school exchange trip to Germany my teacher remarked on my Well shirt (The Fruit Salad/Jester effort of the mid 90's) as the only way we'd get Motherwell in Europe (who's laughing now Jambo ). Upon finally moving to Edinburgh in 2004, the first thing I did was buy a season ticket and I've not looked back since!
  22. Clarky and Sutton for me if we're playing 2 up. I'm yet to be convinced by Sheridan and think we should be developing our own players as long as they're producing the goods. I think Sutton's really doing a job at the moment and Clarky's going to be looking to prove to McGhee that he should be playing too.
  23. McLean was great but for me as well, it's Hughes. Absolutely running the show these days and the first name on the teamsheet in my book. His workrate is oustanding and he's got a great attitude towards the team, pulling players out of trouble and leading by example. If he stays long term, possibly a shout for captain in the future. For now though, getting him to sign again must be top priority. Okay, love-in over

    Dundee Utd

Nah, Murdo MacLeod had his wee dig about it. A fantastic three points today although as said earlier we should have had it won by half time. We nearly threw it away by not starting the secondhalf until 15 minutes in but a well-deserved victory in what could turn out to be a crucial game. From my seat in the Cooper I thought Clarky was fouled rather than dived and Sutton was incredibly unlucky with his 1 on 1 near the end. He was about to it it when it bobbled away from him so he had to take an extra step giving the keeper enough time to narrow the angle. Still, delighted both he and Clarky scored (Cheers Zaliuska for some shocking goalkeeping). Great game from most especially McLean, Quinn and Hughes, who looks like the heart and soul of this team and is covering every blade on the park each and every week. Huge result, we made it hard for ourselves but there was only one team today deserving of a win. Oh and Brines is the worst ref I've ever seen. Get him tae fuck!
  25. That would certainly make a lot more sense to me. I still think Buzz is just waiting to see what the situation is at the end of the season and weigh up what his options are. Anyone coming to the end of a contract is perfectly entitled to do the same. Don't get me wrong, I hope he stays as he's a brilliant shot stopper and has really improved other aspects of his game this season but if he does move on then he's perfectly entitled to.
