I agree that I think we will now see a new midfielder come in given the situation with Donnelly, Turnbull & quite possibly Campbell changing from the beginning of the season. The problem is who that midfielder will be. If we could grab someone on loan from an EPL team I reckon that would be the best chance of adding some quality, otherwise we're looking at someone currently without a club, or from a lower division for 'nominal' fee, neither of which would necessarily improve the starting 11. I'd be surprised if we signed another striker. We've got plenty in the squad, and they should be plenty capable of scoring once we settle on a best line-up. There's more chance of getting a 5+ goal midfielder than a 10+ goal striker at this stage.

Still plenty of flaws, but positives too. I thought we looked more dangerous in spells than we have in recent games. Particularly once we made the subs. White looks like he’s much better suited to that role off the bench than asa starter, I hope he’s okay. Watt and Lang done okay without really taking on their man. Defence was pretty untroubled, I thought Dec was looking improved too and Bev was pretty solid again. While it wasn’t pretty, the main thing was that we won. The monkey is off our back now. You could see us dropping deeper and deeper in the second half, I’d say more so a confidence thing than a fitness/tactical thing. Hopefully the more we grind out these shite wins, the better football we’ll start to play.

I remember going to Scotland games when I was wee and Hampden was always bouncing, I went to the last half dozen or so pre-covid and I was surrounded by people that would make Yodo look like an optimist, and they were generally very depressing experiences (football aside). You hear it time and again in interviews with players, how the pressure and scrutiny from the fans and press is detriment to their game when with Scotland. Cue the “they’re professional footballers, they should be able to handle the pressure” comments, but it’s undoubtedly a factor. I think if more people could actually support their national team, as oppose to criticise it for not being as good as they want it to be, we’d see somewhat of an improvement. See Ireland, who in recent years have qualified for tournaments and out performed us with an inferior set of players but had buy-in from the whole country. Unlikely to ever happen, I know.

There's absolutely zero chance of 100% compliance, there will always be a minority that ruins it for the majority. If folk can't grasp the basics of wearing a mask when you nip in for a pint of milk, they aren't going to stick to their designated seat and refrain from chanting when they finally get into a live game. I know you're not the only one to suggest it, but I don't see how football is being given a raw deal. Thousands of people have lost jobs, businesses and, more importantly, loved ones. Football at the end of the day is a recreational activity for 99.9% of supporters in the country. Sport in general, but specifically football, has been given great dispensations to start back again ahead of umpteen other industries or factions of society due to the national love of the game. To suggest the government is stringing the game along is nothing short of naive when you look at the bigger picture.

I don't think the club want to be involved in any test events. There's only so many pies 300 fans are willing to buy, and the income generated from that is far outweighed by the costs of security, medics on standby, etc. It was discussed on the Sportsound pre-Celtic when it was thought that game may be a test event, I think Burrows made comments about the costs involved with opening the stadium up to such a small number of punters.

Other than a dip in form, the similarities are near enough non-existent. Hearts had much deeper lying issues, the majority of our fans still support Robinson/the club.

I remember Robinson saying in one of his pre-match press conference type things (can't find the video anywhere) that either McGinley or Carroll would be back after the international break, with the other round about October time. McGinley being out for 4-6 weeks would tie in roughly with the international break.

Just out of curiosity, who should he play instead of Grimmy? We were a much better side while he was on the pitch on Sunday than when he wasn’t, and we have three first choice defenders currently injured.

How does the seeding work for the third round? On basis of favourite for each second round tie?

I may be wrong but believe it was agreed at the outset that all ties would be one-off matches behind closed doors, in the name of sporting integrity etc etc.

I watched extra time of the Maribor game and was actually quite impressed with them. They looked fairly solid defensively and countered well. How we come out of this international is going to be hugely important for us. If we can figure out how to score, the St Johnstone and Coleraine games could be the kindling to our season.

Just looking at the split of the pots, we've been very fortunate to sneak in as seeded!

Was doing a bit of digging myself this morning. Played 18, won 2. I think their saving grace has been 11 draws. I'm clutching at straws perhaps, but the fact that they have played a dozen games more than us and are still in such a position may suggest a deeper lying issue than what we have, with my personal view still very much that we're playing okay and will be off and running once (not if) we click up front. Anyway, home to Torshavn would be lovely.

Gave it to Campbell. Can't think of any time he made a mistake or gave the ball away cheaply, did the simple things well and always gets in about it. Honorable mentions to Bevis and, to a lesser extent, Grimmy, who I thought were pretty solid for the most part also.

What is the latest on him? The last I'd heard was post-Ross County when it was 8 weeks at least but too soon to say.
