  1. My tuppence worth is McAllister as Manager with Luc Niholt as Asst Manager. That way we have the potential for a line of succession should McAllister be successful as well as allow Niholt to develop the youngsters into their full potential/build relationships with squad if he in turn takes over the hotseat .
  2. Congratulations and best wishes to the new Mr & Mrs D Clarkson
  3. Brilliant News and good pick-me-up to all the current uncertainty surrounding the manager's position
  4. Thoughts on the original topic are probably same as most people. Key areas for Focus are new GK, LB, LM, ST. 4 going from squad and 4 replaced with room for 1-2 loans if direct signings are of suitable standard. All of these are likely to be Bosmans and/or come from 1st Division. The LB/LM slot is simply down to the fact that if we get Steven Hammell/Marc Fitzpatrick injured then we are scuppered as we have a dearth of left-footed players who can also provide crosses/dig in midfield. Biggest loss for me will be Stephen Hughes as he is good player with terrific first-touch and decent vision. However, on the plus side, we might get someone in who does like to shoot from distance and doesn't only score spectacular goals Smith - Replace (as will be leaving in Summer and we need genuine competition for Goalkeeping spot) Mclean - Keep Craigan - Keep. Reynolds - Keep. Hammell - Keep. Quinn - Keep Hughes - Replace (as will be leaving in Summer and we need genuine competition for Creative midfielder spot) Klimpl - Keep O'Brien - Keep Lasley - Keep Fitzpatrick - Keep Darren Smith - Keep. Mcgarry - Replace (Good servant to club but injuries and loss of form have started to curtail his involvement/impact in games) Malcolm - Replace with Klimpl (as will be leaving in the summer) Clarkson- Keep Sutton - Keep Murphy - Keep Loans - Sheridan - Replace as need competition for places within Strikers and U-19s are still looking like they could be physically intimidated at first-team level) Mcghee & Leitch- Keep (Bit bemused by back-handed compliments he gets but still one of the most successful Well Managers in recent years - Harri Kampmann anyone?)
  5. I think the simple answer is to encourage every player by cheering when they do something right and not saying anything when they do something wrong. They themselves will know it was wrong & if not, the coach should/will update them on this so that they can take it on board ala constructive criticism. That way, we foster the positive environment in which we will see more young players come through the ranks and hopefully enhance themselves and the club/fans by contributing to us winning games!
  6. How the Hell do you get a player/person/employee/anyone for that matter to play/work better by abuing their every touch and booing them??!!?? More importantly, if you really want Motherwell to win, then how does booing anyone in a Claret & Amber shirt for a misplaced pass get them to become the player that you want them to become (i.e. that is the complete all-round player who can win games single-handedly by skill alone). I've yet to meet anyone who performs consistently well when faced with criticism of there every mis-placed pass. Surely the idea is to encourage the player to try to hit those kinds of passes as long as it is in areas that, if possession is lost, it won't expose the team to losing a goal! The more we create a culture of Fear of Failure through booing our own players, the more likely it is that the players will do exactly that, fail! Surely to God, we actually want to encourage players to try those passes as that is how they will learn within themselves whether or not they have that inherent ability. Smaller teams like ourselves need to be seen as good places for young players to develop and be encouraged. Although some people seem to think that it is their inalienable right to abuse players on a Saturday, I can't help thinking that it benefits no-one, even those doing the booing. All it will do is close those players off to the fans, even those that are trying to support them. All in all, whether Fans like to think of it or not, we are essentialy cheerleaders for the players. We are there to cajole and encourage them to attempt to try new things (or do the things that they do well) and work together as a team to deliver the victory that benefits everyone involved with Motherwell!
