It's really not. No one is talking about attendances in isolation, in fact attendances are merely one small part of the equation. Nowhere in your post did you mention the word 'pound' or '£' - how can you make any argument and not talk about money while attendances tread water or decline - financial outlay including stadium upkeep, policing, wages, the playing surface rocket. Ask John Boyle or Leeann Dempster to answer your post - without bringing finances into it. Well done on digging the population info out tho.

I'm sure once all parties hear about this critical life threatening situation they'll divert all resources to it. We'll need to make sure they have any new strips out for your birthday every year !!! ????? etc

I think we'd all agree that Motherwell as a club have outperformed many around them in recent years, particularly post administration. And by and large the problems facing the scottish game are the fault of the clubs collectively. The Satellite TV set up while papering over the cracks with an annual cheque is a fundamental factor in the strangulation of the game as a Saturday @ 3.00 pm event. resulting in the pictures going out to the world of the OF playing away from home against a provincial club in front of a Junior Football attandance (usually on a sunday when most folks are surfacing from their pit). While I sypathise with the bulk of Flow's point - I would counter that while I understand MFC can't do it alone, we (scottish football) have quite literally run out of time / gone past the point of no return. Unless something seismic happens - it could be game over quite soon. All the clubs can't continue to regroup / retreat to their provincial stadiums and say the same thing - "we can't do it alone" - they're all saying these same things. When was the last time a group of them banded together and put together a package for survival and changed their own organisation (the SPL) for the better. It sounds like the club are looking at some different angles - but there are too many different agendas within the non OF teams that concensus is impossible as self preservation reigns. self preservation will be defended until the day before extinction. Motherwell try their best to get kids involved in the game - yet, although it's better these days, the media would prefer to cover OF strips drying on a washing line than cover any other team and cover the game negatively than 'reporting it' and 'promoting it' - it's their lifeblood too after all. There are so many simple fixes to some of this to. A terrestrial TV highlights package covered by a bunch of glum looking bawbags at 10 past midnight on a Monday night????? Can someone tell me how that is promoting the game and how the SPL aren't trying to do something about that??? And what the viewing figures are, particularly how many schoolage kids are watching it and being inspired to be the next SPL star.

BB is essentially on the money and I can completely sympathise with Airfinz. The bones of their point though is the biggest disgrace ever in Scottish Football. The fans have been 'speaking' for years upon years and never once have the SPL or the SFA (or any other body)taken heed of anything that's been said. It's the same old same old every single year in terms of the way the game is 'marketed'. Unfortunately at some point quite soon - the entire football world in Scotland will roll uncontrollably over the cliff.

Ageed Melvin. I think he could develop into one of the best players we've seen. Nothing to do with stats FFS we leaked goals for fun in the run in when he wasn't playing - he's commanding, quick, and has an eye for the net. I'd much prefer to see him and Saunders in the middle than Craigan and Reynolds any day of the week. The sooner he's back in the team the better. Craigan has experience but the brutal truth is Hutch is already a better 'footballer' than Craggs

Thanks Daggad - good info for the lads who are travelling

Ross Forbes will be one of a long line of well players who seem to play their best football in front of away fans rather than they do at home. Hmmm wonder why that is?

It's times like these we should realise how harsh we were on iceRink. Bring back IceRink -
How much is it in Icelandic puffin droppings to get someone to come in and find out the name of the site via telepathy?

Oh Haggischomper's point - it's right that the midfield should be following up - although las gets a nosebleed when he gets within two yards of the box. however the biggest concern was that neither Murphy or Sutton were in a position to get onto decent crosses at times in the first leg. that could be lack of match sharpness, poor positional awareness on behalf of the player or even being played too deep or wide by SensiBroon.

Once more MFC hits it on the napper. Humph hit a few excellent crosses into the danger zone after going past someone last week. The problem is the people who were meant to be there weren't. Hitting the ball into the danger zone from a cross, corner or free kick from behind a player, on the run or in front of a wall seems to be an acceptable thing to do the world over apart from in Motherwell. It's pish unless it set square perfect onto a centre forward's heid

Looks like Everton seeking out a 'sale' and Coventry weighing up an offer (or Boothroyd going to the board to see if they'll stump up).

Aw naw I thought we'd put this one to bed

My previous flippancy aside I totally agree with that. that's the right thing to do do. probably would have been better coming from the club this way too - precisely and specifically after the Choose Life sponsorship was concluded. i'd like to know if there have been instances befor where a club has taken money from a charity for sponsorship. the instances I've known about - the club have waived the fee or a businessman has raised the funds and handed the space over to the charity. I know that they all have an advertising budget and it's up to them how they spend it it

I'd be quite interested to see how this 'getting rid' is done. Fraser is due an entire year's salary and I'll point out that there's a possibility, like in a number of other transfers that have happened elsewhere this summer, he could go get the deal and just as we're beginning to count on that wage for someone else he'll say - "yeah i'll sign as soon as Motherwell pay my com-pen. Much as it rankles with some - he's due the money. Let's hope if Michael Fraser moves on he shows us the good will that hasn't been offered to him by many of us.
