Watching Sky Sports and its been a largely uneventful transfer deadline with the big teams... ...but best ever for us!!! Never known this much activity and all deals sound very promising!
-
Cant be that stringent if Lawson passed one...
-
Spot on. Short term deals are fine as long as it ensures top flight survival and then it will be a monster rebuilding job in summer.
-
Decent signing by the sounds of it...surely must mean Gunnar is a goner?!
-
Spencer never cost a transfer fee at all as such. We bought out his final year of his contract at Everton (which was around the £500k mark). So essentially, we paid Spencer £500k to sign for us, not Everton!
-
Fyvie would be an awesome signing for us. But no chance of it happening. League One/Championship down south or another SPFL team.
-
With you on this... If it's only one, I'd prefer an attacking midfielder that could be used as a striker if needed. Someone to really create something.
-
Total fabrication that, and I know for a fact that isn't the case. Boyle & Nevin were really good friends, and Nevin has never spoken to him since administration. Also, Billy Davies has went on the record saying it was his targets.
-
Never understood some of the hatred for Nevin from our fans. He begged Boyle to delay administration until end of season. He resigned in protest of Boyles actions. Make no mistake, it was his Boyles lofty ambition that led to administration. That said, still very grateful to him for all his efforts with the club over the years.

63...delighted with that although put a lot of that down to FM! Missed out on Maurice Ross, Ross Stewart, Ross McLean, Dale Shirkie & Gunnar Neilson (the shame!) Thought I'd put him.in already but obviously not. Wasted around a minute trying to spell Jutkiewicz! Awesome Ya Bezzer...thanks for this!

Not criticising at all... Just think signing stop gap players is continuing down the path that has arguably put us in our current predicament. And by young, didn't me U21's - more 23-27 age range. Guys looking for platform to step up from U21 football that they haven't found down south as yet.
-
Surely you need debt to be faced with administration??? The fact that we are losing some 20 players and staff off our wage budget come June, and given the Well Society and Les Hutchison's involvement, surely administration is not even on the cards short term??
-
Don't see why we would need money to bring in this type of player. I suspect they were not earning astronomical amounts and came up to us as they weren't featuring for their teams downs south and wanted playing time/to put them in the shop window. I'm amazed out of all the players we brought up we weren't able to sell at least one on rather than have their contract run down and leave for nothing. Will agree that signing this type of player is much easier in the summer though. My point was more that surely we have better options open to us than ageing journeymen.
-
Have to echo the thoughts of others that some of the names being mentioned are very uninspiring. My major concern is we seem to be targeting english lower league journeymen rather than english lower league prospects. I know we need them to make an immediate impact, but our best results have been the younger guys such as Humphrey, Nicky Law, Coke, Randolph, etc and thats the way I'd like us to continue. We badly need some fresh energy in the squad. Our only problem with signing the younger guys was the two year deals and then letting them run down...

If we survive the drop this year, think we have a few tough years ahead of us. While all the clubs you could deem smaller than us have been heavily investing in youth and bringing through players, we have been riding high with one of our most successful periods in our history. Now the bubble is burst, and we are two or three years at least behind the smaller SPL clubs in terms of youth players coming through and making an impact. Folk on here have pointed the finger at the board, at McCall, at Black, at the players and the youth development team, etc for the very evident short term vision that has now firmly come back to bite us on the arse. Whoever is to blame, its now all about moving in the right direction to get the club into a sustainable model of youth development to compare to our rivals. And over the next 4-5years I will settle for 10th every year and possible a decent run in one of the cups if we come out the other end in a much better position. Relegation would be a massive blow to the club. In terms of the financial implications it would be a disaster, and we could potentially stagnate like Dunfermline have. And that's the catch 22 - we want to get the young guys coming through and developing them, while at the same time doing all we can to ensure we don't get relegated, so will need proper experience heads round about them.
-
+1 for me. Priority for me is in the spine of the team - ideally another CB and another ST is what we need as priority, the a GK next if budget stretches. Allow the young boys to stake their claim. We need to expose our best young players to regular football at the same time trying to ensure we don't get dragged down. Tough one indeed.

Just been chatting to work colleague (St. Johnstone fan) and as well as discussing our shit form she mentioned Pearson returning is a good signing for us. Then she added that Motherwell have a habit of bringing former players back to the club. Never really thought about it before, but we do! Can think of a good who who have had two spells in my 30years alone. Anyway, thought I'd post it here and see if we can add to the list and discuss who was the best "resigning"/who would you like to have back, etc, etc. Anything to bring a bit of a distraction on here with the current doom and gloom! Ones I can think of: Stephen Pearson James McFadden Keith Lasley Stevie Hammell Phil O'Donnell Brian McClair John Sutton Henrik Ojamaa Gunnar Neilson Stephen Hughes Stephen Craigan Alex Burns George Burley (?) Fraser Wishart Gregor Steven (?) Anymore? McFadden returning probably caused me the greatest level of excitement, but probably best returning servant has to be Lasley or Hammell.

Not defending our performance, recent form or general charge toward division one, but with a thread bare squad as is, we were missing some first team regulars last night...
-
Think we are spineless when.it comes to transfer dealings. Even going back to McFadden, felt we sold him on the cheap to Everton. A team wants our star player and offer £100k when he's worth ten times that. Big club say take it or leave it, and we shit it thinking thats better than nothing when his two year deal runs out. And for every McArthur, Gauld and McCarthy, their has been Jack Grimmer, Scott Allan, Chris Maguire, Brian Easton, David Goodwillie, etc, etc that all sold for £1m plus and all acheived fuck all down south and usually end up back here. Club needs long term deals for promising talent and balls to tell clubs to put up or piss off.

Things are shite just now and will be a battle to the end to avoid relegation, but this is roughly the same team that finished 2nd - so hardly worst team ever! We are lacking fitness (McCall's pre-season possibly to blame), severely struggling with injuries (missing JP), adjusting to a new manager, lacking in confidence, dealing with off field restructuring and starting to see the legs on Lasley, etc go. Don't give a monkeys about result tonight, for me its all about grinding out results against teams about us. Priority is ensuring St. Mirren and Ross County finish below us and week to week its all about matching or bettering there results. I still have faith that come May we won't be in botyom two. EDIT: And all this talk about "wouldn't mind a relegation, etc" is ridiculous chat. I've never seen this club relegated and should it come to pass I will be absolutely devastated. Folk showing first stages of grief and we are only at half way point of season.
-
Good start, and as mentioned, not his biggest fan due to his departure first time round and the fact I never rated him as highly as others, but should be a most welcome addition to the squad. Need a few at the back now...
-
Never rated Pearson as highly as others in his first spell, but believe he could offer something now. I seem to recall he struggled to pass the ball 5yards at times, but saw him play for Derby few years back and he really dictated play. He's more experienced and mature now too, so shouldn't bring the off firld antics either.
-
Again, possibly. Probably why someone new should have been brought in to replace him.
-
Quite possibly. In my current job the GM was promoted from the accounts department before I stated, but she doesn't do any accounts work, more delegates it as she had more pressing matters. Find it strange than after 8months he isn't doing likewise. EDIT: And if he is just asking the questions, what is the thinking behind that?! Surely the person holding the camera can ask questions
-
To film and edit? Probably a good few hours - which isn't the end of the world. What else is he doing related to his old role though? And there are two other in the media team so is there any need for him to do as such?
