Solid post their IWG - and I couldn't agree more with all of what you said. Signing up our more experienced, established players would be a real statement of intent from Gannon and the club in terms of ambition - and I include Hately and Coke in this as well. However, in this day and age where football is run by money I see it being an impossible task. If we can keep the core of this squad, maybe get Ruddy, Yass or the Duke on permanent deals plus get O'Brien, Slane and Reynolds commited to the club then I think, under Gannon, we have a incredibly bright future. The impact Gannon and the team have made this season has been incredible and something most 'Well fans could never have expected after our squad was decimated in the summer... However, the thing that strikes me is we can only get better! Our young guns will mature and develop with more time, our team will get better adapted to each other and IF we can keep that nucleus of the team together - plus add a few new faces - then there is no reason why we shouldn't be consistantly pushing for 3rd and even some Cup success. And there will come a time with every young player or talented player, when their performances and ambition, will attract interest from other clubs, and I feel it's imperitive we have deals in place so we can command good money for them to invest in the prospects of tomorrow. This applies to Gannon too - Gordon Young as well. I'm excited about all that is going on at the club just now and I really believe it is the dawn of a bright future for us.... ....just hope I'm not proved wrong!

Something to do with debt issuses and not paying wages.... BBC's Report
-
Agree with that to an extent... Also think it will promote the "players not earning their wages" to work harder and prove him wrong. This seems to be a method he uses for motivation - as seen with the Craigan situation at the start of the European campaign. That said....I still think he wants players out the door to free up money for new additions to the squad.
-
I noticed that too, but it doesn't matter.... After that post, 99% of the members on this board think the whole Brighton thing was crap. Gannon's staying with us and thats all that matters now. Panic over, case closed. People can take what they want from it.
-
That's it.... And just out of interest when would anyone who had a bit of insider info ever offer up a quote never mind their sources??? But you've worked me out....I give up....it was all lies cause I've got absolutely nothing better to do with my time! I mean really?!!
-
That's a very good possibility Not buying that Think there is a very high chance of that! perhaps.... Nail on head with most of that Fudge in my opinion. Either way, very good points.
-
People can make up their own minds I guess.

No you can't, and I don't. But I wonder how much it has to do with the situation he is in at the club with a rolling contract, clauses, etc. I would hope that in light of this recent event the club will strive to tie Gannon up on a more securing contract - similar to the one Mutley was on that saw us get £200k in compensation. On the whole I'm delighted. But I worry a little that this will just be the first of many approaches from England for Gannon. EDIT: Just thinking, I wonder what Gannon's reaction is to missing out the job? Disappointment? Maybe he was approached rather than applied - probably more likely I believe. But he had to agree to an interview....
-
I know....but thought my wording of my post was a little confusing as milo and gazzyb were casting ifs and butts. Just trying to make it clear that he has been for this meeting/interview at Brighton - can'r convince me otherwise - and now its a matter of will they or won't they offer him the position, and will we or won't we be able to entice him to stay should that happen.
-
Just to re-iterate he WAS at Brighton on Wednesday for an Interview. Not speculation on my part I'm afraid, have this on good athority! All thats left to do is wait and see what the outcome may be....
-
As I'm led to believe, this definately happened - on Wednesday last week. Hence why yesterday afternoon I posted that there may be more to this than the Crewe approach, but didn't want to be shot down for posting it first. It's also been suggested to me that he is operating on a rolling contract. Many have suggested Brighton is a step down, and I agree. But with this new money man in charge there are funds to be played with and the club has huge ambitions. If offered the position, I believe he will go.... But I'm sure he isn't the only candidate to be interviewed, so we can just hope that someone impresses more!
-
Think there is more to this than the Crewe one....

Quite interesting there Gullane.... Especially like the bit where you highlight the authenticity of the "rumours" I post.

There's no way Gannon will leave for anything less than English Premieship, Championship, Rangers or Celtic - and I genuinely beleive that. But he strikes me as the type of character that wants to see a job through to the end, and I predict he will be 'Well gaffer for 3, maybe 4, years before making his next STEP UP the magerial ladder that he unquestionably deserves.

I think Craigan's on his last year at Fir Park as a first team player to be honest, and I've heard rumours that he has even been told this by Gannon. However, as it's his testimonial year he will be at the club for the whole season - and with whats been mentioned before in this thread, his experience will be invaluable to the club and the young players as Gannon builds his squad. I would hope he stays on at the club in a coaching/back-up player capicity next year (sure he has 18months left on his contract) as he has been a true ambassador for the club and a loyal servent. I think the most likely players to be going in January are Lasley, McGarry, Jennings and Fitzpatrick. Fraser will be kept for back-up (and in the possibility Ruddy leaves us in January.) Darren Smith has been injured, and for that reason I think he will stay so Gannon can properly assess him. I also expect Jim O'Brien to attract interest, and maybe even sign a pre-contract.

Jim Hamilton's vs Celtic cause it's probably the best goal I've ever seen in the flesh at Fir Park (or maybe any other stadium for that matter) ever!! Truly stunning. Did go mental at Skippy Sunday, as I did at '91 Cup final but they are obvious choices - also Fizzy against the FHW in CIS semi. If we are talking in general, not just Motherwell, has to be Ole Gunnar Skolskjaer Champions League winner, Coistys goal for Scotland against Switzerland in Euro '96 (we were going through....until Kluiverts 87th minute goal against En-ger-lund) and McFadden versus Holland in World Cup play off at Hampden and ofcourse this..... name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">

Motherwell v Accies, 1st April 1989, 1-0 win for the 'Well, goal scored by Stevie Kirk. Always remember the fans going mental as that result relegated Hamilton. Was a tender 5years old.
-
Can you get odds on that, cause I think you're onto a winner!!
-
I want both!! Sorry if it's against the question of the thread, but I'm a greedy bar stweard. And in all fairness if we can't be the Midden both times we should maybe rethink our ambitions for this year as I think they are one of the weekest teams in the league riding right now on a bit of good fortune. .....just hope I don't regert that statement.
-
And he still is - only now we've jumped on the bandwagon!
-
andybug has stole my thunder.... Mentioned this on the players we love to hate thread. One that immediately jumps to mind for me is Pysco - although I think Dougie and Tommy Coyne would be disliked a few as well (especially the Old Firm in Dougies case!) Andy Goram wasn't exactly popular with other fans, either was Spencer - but think thats to do with their Rangers days. Remember a hearts mate of mine hated Brian Martin and Lee McCulloch as he thought they were both thugs.
-
This has been a quality thread.... But just thinking, how many of these "Love to Hate figures" would have been 'Well Legends had they been at Fir Park?? The majority I'd reckon. Wonder how many of the former 'Well players are hated by other SPL teams?
-
That's the on! Sorry for the vague description! Thought most folk would know what I was talking about. Was Xara and Motorola. EDIT: just realised I put amber rather than claret in original post!

Always the skippy sunday one for me, but thats cause it has very special memories.... I got it a few days after the Skippy Sunday game before I flew out on a round the world trip. First stop was Dubai and I was standing at check in at Glasgow airport in my new Motherwell top, when the guy in front of me turns round and is none other than Alan Thompson. He saw my top, I greeted him with an "awrite big man" and he replied with "not now I've seen that" nodding to my strip. I chatted to him for a bit in deparures and he was genuinely a top bloke! Other favourite top was the Black and White top with the amber trim from a few years back. Not really a fan of the amber away tops, but this years is an absolute belter and is the first all amber top I've ever owned.
