  1. Where'd you here it Frazzle? Find it strange. I wouldn't except it personally as I think he is a vital part of the team.
  2. I salute you WishyWell! A true ambassidor for the club! Big Gullit is a living legend and to see him strut his stuff at The 'Ark would have been incredible! One of my all time favourite players - and he had the 2nd best hairdo in the history of football (behind Carlos Valderama!) If Leanne Dempster ever steps down from her current role, I will write a letter to Boyle explaining why I think you should be General Manager!!
  3. I'd take Dougie Imrie if we got a good price - but had a few injury problems last few seasons. Would take Tokely as back up and nothing more - but wouldn't pay for him! Think Cowie is a terrific we player!
  4. Just had a lok at the Cradiff boards...the seem to reckon its all some sort of conspiracy/sly tatcti/diversion to sign someone else!! Or am I reading that wrong? Well way I see it we are in a win-win situation. Deal doesn't happen we have his goals - deal does we have good money. Wonder if reported Derby bid is same fee as Cardiff?
  5. Sorry bud, news always seems to get delayed on its way to me - thanks for confirming! It certainly was the highlight of my day, and as I went past him I fought the urge to shout out "awrite toastie!" just incase it wasn't him! Good luck to him - as long as he doesn't bust me for anything! On a side note, you think he been recruited by Polis team??
  6. I would swear on everything I hold dear on this earth that I just saw Alex "Toastie" Burns while on my lunch... ...and I was gobsmacked to see him in full gear walking the beat!! Anyone confirm this? Or did I just happen to see his twin?
  7. Kaka? Could pay his wages for a few weeks with the £400k! No seriously, I think tie up Buzz, Shuggie, and Klimpl and look to bring in a defender, midfielder and striker. Defender - That boy webster or some loan deal for hot youngster from English side Midfield - Would love to sign cowie but don't think we can compete with Watford who are sniffing, possibility of Lappin again? Striker - Some experienced goal getter - Robbie Fowler is looking for a club, would do to end of the season?! Just hope we bring in a few faces before transfer deadline to boost our chances this season.
  8. Personally, I'm greedy - I want both!
  9. According to the sun, Don Cowie could be off to Watford... Click here! Quite gutted to be honest as I think he would be a terrific signing for us. Maybe El Tel can persuade him by telling how mighty The Well are? But sad truth is we just can't compete with Championship wages.
  10. Awesome!! So my mate isnae telling lies and we nearly had the legend that was big Ruud Gullit! When the day comes when McGhee leaves The 'Ark, I'm gonnae start a campaign to get Gullit to bring his "sexy football" to the mighty well!! Who's with me?! PS Get the letter on these ere forums WishyWell!! Would make my day!
  11. Wiki and it's dam lies!!! Or maybe he just wore that Motherwell top for a bet, or was a fan caused he stayed local?! Did Rangers no pinch Barry Ferguson from under our noses when he was 14 or 15? That's another rumour I have heard through the years.
  12. That's the story as I know it Jonesy. Unbeleivable!! Wonder if the then youth scout at Newcastle can live with himself?! Did he have to cough up some of the £15m for his sheer incompetence?!
  13. I think he will want to go - Cardiff are flying just now and Premiership football is a real possibility. Plus with the guys prefessionalism, I think he would prefer that Motherwell got something for him rather than nothing, as he is not the type to do over the club who gave him the platform to make the step up. I think it's as good as a done deal! Quick McGhee - get shopping!!
  14. With all this Fletcher talk it reminds me of a great story of a club letting a quality player slip through their net.... Newcastle gave a trial to Alan Shearer when he was at S form age, and decided he wasn't up to much. Talk about mistakes - that one cost the Toon £15m!!! Priceless!
  15. I totally agree here - Porter is a top professional, dignified and humble. He was absolutely crucial to the team last season thanks mainly to his temwork and work ethic. That is the complete opposite of what MacDonald was for us. I would say he is arguable one of best players from the last decade, but I'd still take Porter any day of the week! Skippy left us, and although we missed his ability, we ultimately became a better team...Porter leaving us will weaken us a great deal, but it would be foolish not to accept a fee like this for a player we got for nothing, and I beleive Sutton could help fill the gap left while the money could secure a few more players. Sad to see him go, and I thank him for the way he has handelled himself throughout his time at the club and the overall team contribution he made. Enjoy the Premership next year big man...
  16. Maybe he was - didn't stop him hoaring himself to Rangers and spitting oot the dummy when we knocked back their pathetic bid? And all that from a life-long diehard kiss the badge when a score and taunt the fans of my former club Smellic fan?!! Aye-Right!!!
  17. McGhee is quoted in The Sun today as wanting the tie moved to Fir Park to prevent any more call offs. Can't find a web link for the story though...
  18. I'm with you this weeyin. While I will be sad to see him go, that kinda money for someone with only 6months left on his contract is excellent. Plus how much will we save by not paying his wages for that time - another 200k maybe? As we know the finances at Fir PArk are in good order and this money could se us land two or three good players - Webster, Cowie and a wee suprise to challenge Sutton for Porters role. With regards to McDonald, I remember when we knocked back the bid from Rnagers he talked about how we had wasted his dreams to play for his "boyhood heros!" Yet when he signed for the Smellic, he declared it as joining the club he had always supported! Basically put, he is a we fat arsed whore and despite him being excellent for us over his time at the club, I can't stand him now!
  19. I think they do Melvin! And Kilmarnock have Taouil and Fernandez, both capable of producing that we bit of magic! Not to the same calibre of Faddy and Rosco, but still capable of it. One of the main reasons for these players is to appease the fans. They instantly have a great affinity to any flair player, and we have seen that over the years at Fir Park. Right now our great hope is Jamie Murphy, and without him having produced a excellent display, he still shows they we moments of magic that get all of us fans excited! As to us finishing bottom the year Faddy carried him, I think that was just the depth of our squad at the time. While these flair players are capable of magic moments, football is not a one man team. I mean if Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Stranraer do you think they would win everything?! No, but they would still be weak at the back, etc. And Ronaldo is the best Flair player their is. Faddy was superb the season we finished bottom, but the team was very poor and we could have no complaints about finishing bottom.
  20. They have a web directory on 'ficial site... Click here! I recall seeing an advert in a programme before Christmas as well...not sure what one. Don't know if they do anything else though, so small sponsorship - but better than nothing. They also sell 50/50 tickets there during the week - aparantly the tickets sales are up a fair deal thanks to Jack's, Joker and the other bars selling them through the week.
  21. Loving your confidence! I tend to be more pessimestic - saves me the disappointment!
  22. Get your bets on then Wellfan! Really though, hope he does beat lasts years tally...I'll just no be betting on it!
  23. In reply to your points: 1/ Rangers or not, it's less of a 'Well pub than Jack, Joker or Electric! 2/ Paid for by all the 'Well fans membership fees and drinks 3/ Think that was an implied joke 4/ Why have it on the stage?! Makes no sense! Suppose it's pride of place! 5/ Cause its usually empty outwith matchdays and all the old codgers in it know each other. 6/ Yes - but they tend to get majority of custom so rival bars have to hike up their prices. And they can have cheaper drink cause they are a memebers club, and rake it in through membership fees. 7/ Probably all gifts and donations from the club when they were on good terms, or 'Well fans who drink there 8/ Big wow! I had a drink in a bar in Spain called "Ever Well's" but it was a Liverpool bar - and it's always full on matchdays because Motherwell fans go there instead of Cooper, etc.
  24. Think it's just a case of the FP Club being cheeper and more accessible. Think of the Old Firm games when the Cooper is shut to punters so a dozen folk can have a meal. As I have mentioned in other threads, football is now abou business and the more you pay to the club the better you are looked after. Having spoken to Alex White who has the lease on the bars within the Stadium, I know he is very pissed at this. A dozen or so people eating meals in the Cooper is money lost to him, and to the club who get a percentage as on a matchday there can be a few hundred punters in the Cooper for a drink. Fans are aware of this and don't like being messed about. It's all politics, and personaly I think it is scandalous that meals are put on in the Cooper on any matchday. Surely it's more feesible to have them in Centenery?! As far as the Fir Park Club go, I'd go as far as to say the only reason they are in business is because of the club. Say for talking sake there is 400 'Well fans who are members, paying their £20 or whatever it is annual fee, plus the profits from the drink they buy along with non-members who just go in on matchdays, and the FP Club mucst be making easy £20k a year on the back of the club! I think that is shocking that nothing goes to the club, I'd even go as far to say it was robbery - using another affiliations standing to promote yourself and take potential profits from them. Having been in the FP Club a few times myself, I think it is run by a bunch of bitter old bar stewards (literally!!) most of which don't even support the club. It suffers from the same down right refusal to change with the times that has already seen many working mans club throughout Lanarkshire fold, and if it wasn't on the doorstep of the Stadium it would be no diffrent. The fall out with Motherwell FC was a long time ago yet they still have a chip on their shoulder and are not doing anything to build bridges. That tactic will come back and bite them hard, as when, not if, we move to the 'Craig, the FP Club will be out on it's arse and will surely shut down within a year of us moving ground. The only possible way I can see for them to survive, is if they build bridges with the club, offer a annual donation or whatever and they might have a future tie in with the club. I've heard some horror stories with regard to the relationship between the two - and I know I am rabbiting on here, but I'll provide two examples: 1/ With the recent Player Sponsorship Evening at the end of last season, MFC approached FPC to put up some posters in their place and hand out a few flyers. Apparantley they were not so keen, and aked the club for a donation to do this!! Some sort of agreement must have been reached because they ended up there a couple of weeks before the event, but the fact they wern't there much earlier surely supports this. It's absolutely sickening!! 2/ With all the money the FPC is making on the back of MFC, why don't they have a programme advert or even a shirt sponsor with the club?! They are making the majority of their profits from MFC yet won't even send a few hundred quid the clubs way for a player sponsor - and I guarantee they will have been approached! Surely a signed Motherwell top would look pride of place in a so-called "Fir Park" Club. Sad truth is I have very little time for the Fir Park Club, and I beleive MFC have to address the Cooper situation pre-match to reclaim the custom that has be 'stolen' by the FPC. Have it open to general fans before every game and offer drink promotions, etc through the matchday programme. If they get the punters in, more money will go to the club - and ultimately thats what every 'Well fan should want. Apologies for the lenght of this - but had to be said!
