  1. Tough reading. Heartbreaking. As someone who has not long lost their father at the age of 33, this makes me feel really lucky I did get the chance to know him.
  2. Can't really agree. He is being approachable to the fans through social media which is a massive positive over other clubs and probably stems from his own passions for the club. Should he be sharing very sensitive stuff with fans - ie. naming the player we are going sign, commenting on controversial refereeing discussions, making comment on players, etc then it would be a massive issue. But he doesn't, so what harm is there? I was far from convinced from his appointment and has got a lot right and a lot wrong in my eyes during his time at the helm as he learns on the job. Unlike some, I do believe he is culpable to criticism when merited. However, on this occasion you are absolutely miles out though, clutching at straws and making a perceived positive by the majority a negative.
  3. Not overly blown away by the home one, but the away is a belter for me!
  4. Thats what I meant...would rather use his wage elsewhere.
  5. Don't know if it's just me or not, but that sounds a lot like Robinson doesn't fancy him and he will likely be offski.
  6. Is he though? I'd suspect there could is easily a half dozen higher paid than him, maybe more. Remember hearing credible chat a while back that folk like Louis Lang and Kieran Kennedy were on massive deals compared to other members of the squad as they were paid more at previous clubs.
  7. I've been saying this for the past 18months. At times I feel he looks a little unnatural wide right, but his engine and work rate would make him perfect in the middle. I'm all for keeping Ainsworth. Not 100% convinced he will be one of our biggest earners but not sure, and that will be a factor. However, he is a player that can produce a bit of magic when on his game and thats invaluable to clubs. If he done it all the time, he wouldn't be with us. Even one game out of four makes him worth having. Either way, great to see him speak so positively about his time here and if he is to move on, he has left a few cracking memories.
  8. Thought he had a good game last night, but like others would be reluctant to see another playing deal handed out to him. Would be entirely on sentiment for me, and we can't afford that luxury in the required upcoming clear out. An absolute stalwart and great servant to the club, but think last night was indeed his last run out at Fir Park, and he knew it hense the emotion. Our most successful captain on the past 30 years. Thanks for it all Keef!
  9. I'm still not 100% convinced by him and still maintain it was a lazy appointment and a missed opportunity. That said, last night he got everything spot on and has achieved what was required of him with a game to spare. So he rightfully gets time and the summer will be a chance to bring in his own players and put his own stamp on the squad. Again, that is no easy task given the sheer amount of deadwood in the squad. He has got my full support and I hope he proves my initial doubt to be wrong and goes on to have a very successful spell as our manager.
  10. I said when Robison was appointed it was probably a missed trick to get in someone new with a fresh perspective on things that could mix up the "old pals act" that appears to absolutely plague our club. As much as it pains me, proving to be absolutely spot on with that assessment. If we go down, he has to go, simple. If we stay up, I'd still look to replace him as we need someone with no sentiment to the current squad so it can be properly purged. If there is not a break clause in his contract and we have to pay him off since he got an 18month deal, then that for me is a big a fuck up! And for me, if we go down every single person that had any involvement in his appointment has serious questions to answer about the overall management of the club, not just the failed managerial appointments, but the general management of the club, business model, signing policy and general direction. As a "fan-owned" club, they should be scrutinised for their performance and I'd expect in the catastrophic event of relegation, heads will have to roll. No matter what though, this "old pals act" that is rooted deep in the club needs to be absolutely obliterated next year as it is weighing us down.
  11. Getting beat of a team with a 2nd rate Sky pundit as manager is an utter embarasment. This is what happens when you stick with the old palls act rather than get someone with fresh ideas. Relegation or not, anything short of a mass clearout in the summer isn't acceptable.
  12. Uninspiring choice for me, missed a chance to bring someone fresh in to oversee the mass cull of the playing squad required. He could prove me wrong, but too much of the old pals act here for me just now. Also think a contract to end of the season would have been a better option, and mystified why it has taken this long to announce the assistant as McGhee's replacement? That all said, he will get my backing and hopefully he can prove all the doubters wrong. Confident he will guide us to safety come seasons end and then it will be job done. As others have said, probably cheap choice, but also a relatively safe choice. Good luck to him.
  13. Good post capt_oats. Coyle would be a decent appointment and if there is anything in the odds it is encouraging we are attracting someone we has managed in the Premier League, albeit with his stock slightly on the wain the last few years. Out of all the names mentioned on this thread, he wouldn't be my first choice but by no means a bad choice and the few that have been mentioned that I'd be more willing to see are pure fantasy. Certainly think he is a better option than Davies, Valakari and Stubbs.
  14. 65, out of work, a local lad and with a reputation as one of the finest coaches in the Premiership era down south, massive network of contacts, applauded for his work with youth and has a firm old school no nonsense approach. Never said give him the job - said it excited me. Think he is exactly the kind of character we could do with. Also said it's very unlikely.
  15. Just leave that contradiction there. I'm not saying give it to Valakari, but by all accounts he has had a more successful track record than Coyle or McAllister. A lot of the names mentioned don't inspire me all that much, need to bring in someone who can both lift the current slump and oversee a revolution in the summer by gutting a squad littered with past it and not up to it players. Joe Jordan is the only name mentioned so far that really excites me, but very unlikely. Owen Coyle of St.Johnstone, Burnley then yes - but his recent track record has been dire. Again, think he may be unlikely. McAllister would be unlikely as well given his media role. Valakari potentially carries too much risk short term - as would Van der Gaag and Niijholt. If we were already safe, then they'd have more of a case for the gig in the summer. As much as I have no love for the judas now, we do need someone in the vein of Craig Brown who can come in and sure things up and see us over the finish line. Jim Duffy would have been a perfect candidate until his rantings today. Giving it to Robinson or Criagan in the short term wouldn't inspire confidence in me either as they are part of the McGhee's team and I really feel we need some fresh ideas injected into the club. Not opposed to Stubbs either I suppose, but wouldn't be my first choice.
  16. Did any of them cite the source as Steelmenonline.co.uk?? Cause that's exactly where all these stories have come from.
  17. Good luck. I sincerely hope the (very likely) resistance you will face in trying to install real positive change isn't too severe.
  18. This fan ownership is no bother. Just the very mention of a boycott on the fan forum results in action!
  19. Without being an expert on the matter and going on what I have read online, Van der Gaag carries much better pedigree/experience/achievement than Valakari. However, they are both risks as don't know Scottish football other than their brief spell with us. I think we do need a revolution at the club and for me someone who can breath new life and energy into the club. Right now, I'm very much in the opinion of ANYONE but McGhee.
  20. I'll through two names out the hat...David Hopkin from Livingston or Jim Duffy at Morton. Both done well with their respective clubs. Gary Naysmith would be a good appointment for me, but he has just joined QotS so doubt he will move to us.
  21. I'm not entirely sure. The board I'd guess. Fan owned yet we don't know who is calling the shots.
  22. This. 100%. I have called out the perceived pant wetting our supporters are prone to from time to time when calls for him to be sacked were made in November. Time is up now, firmly in McGhee out. The past month has been utterly shambolic and he must go. However, the people calling the shots simple do not have the stones for me and he is too stubborn and arrogant to resign. I'd go as far as to say that if the people with the power to remove him immediately don't act, then as a "fan-owned" club, thete positions should also be under threat.
  23. Was listening to that tonight and its proper grim. I have backed McGhee on the stregnth of last seasons exploits and his track record, but tonight was one utter scudding too many and now I firmly believe questions need to be asked. Next up is Celtic and a yet another likely demoralising defeat. I now don't see where it gets better and the fear of a relegation battle grows - although I think Inverness and Hamilton are even more pish than us that we should be OK. We appear bereft of ideas and energy right now and McGhee has to answer for that.
