Ramsden - quickly becoming my favourite player at Fir Park.
-
Was going to post on here last night but decided against it, as it would have been a truly depressing post. In the cold light of day this morning, I've calmed down a fair bit. How many times do you see a team going down to 10-men and shutting up shop? It happens all the time, and it was that blatant last night that when Shaugnessy was sent-off I turned to my mates and said that we'd draw 0-0 and get beat on penalties.....not for the first time in recent years, Aberdeen came to Fir Park and strung 5-men along their backline. The red card was more of a hindrance than a help, as we dominated the opening 10-15mins, while Aberdeen couldnt get out their half, added to this, Shaugnessy is fucking murder and I'd have preferred him to stay on. On the other hand though, our lack of creativity, a plan B, or any real attacking thought process was embarassing. It was a strange formation to start with - nobody playing right-midfield while we had 3 central-mids who arent exactly blessed with goal-scoring prowess, or even the nack of creating goals. I'm also fairly certain that Lawson had himself for 1st goalscorer with all those woeful long-rangers. At half-time, we knew Ainsworth was coming on, but was unsure whether he'd take Lawson or ZFA off and play Ainsworth either wide-right or in behind the strikers, as it transpired McCall decided to go for a more conventional 4-4-2 with a 'winger' on each side of Carswell and Lasley. He could have taken both of them off to be fair because they were both having howlers.......I've said it before but ZFA is just awful, he has no awareness of what he is meant to be doing what-so-ever (which in fairness may not be his fault as I believe he is a natural left-back), his 1st touch is pish and he just looks completely out his depth. I thought Ainsworth started the 2nd half really well, got to the byline (aye he did) on a couple of occasions and flashed the ball right along the six-yard line, only for the big lump of wood and his estonian pal to watch from around the penalty spot - he then reverted to launching the ball into the box like everybody else in the team. On the strikers, yes Anier puts in plenty of effort and has one or two nice touches but how many times was he close enough to Sutton to link up from any of the times the lump of wood managed to get the better of Anderson? Not very many. As for the lump of wood himself? He had a difficult night against a back-5, but I'd like to know the percentage of the match-time that he actually spends on his arse and how many times over the course of play that he actually uses his feet. As the match wore on, it was becoming more and more apparent that we had run out of ideas. Now, I can understand the swapping of Anier for McHugh - Anier had run about like a headless chicken for an hour and hadnt produced much, he also looked tired - whatever we think of McHugh, he has had the habit of scoring from the bench and in terms of pure seniority he is next in line to play up front after Sutton and Anier, lets not build young Moore into the next 'great white hope', as we done with McHugh in the past. What baffles me though is the non-introduction of McFadden at any point in a game where it was obvious we had no creativity - he could have sacrificed Hamell, gone 3 at the back and played Faddy in behind the strikers with ZFA and Ainsworth either side or he could have done the obvious and hauled ZFA off, like-for-like. Either Faddy was fit or he wasnt, and if he wasnt then he shouldnt have been considered for the bench and if he was then he should have been utilised at some stage of the match. I'd need to see the goal again, but for me a header in the 6-yard box from a corner to be unchallenged by the goalkeeper is criminal, for all the stick Hollis has taken since Randolph left and the constant shouts for Gunnar to takeover, it seems to me that the Faroese isnt any better. This was a real chance for us to lift some silverware for the 1st time in a generation and when you look at the teams in the draw its enough to make you greet. On a side note, Simon Ramsden is quickly becoming my favourite player at Fir Park, been far better at right back than he was at centre-half and thought he put in 100% again as usual last night.

sat in a pub in Bellshill watching the game myself while everybody else watched Man City v Chelsea. Null vote from me, as every single one of them was rotten - Vigurs is torture though
-
If it is a Gretna-esque attendance then that is all they deserve - we took a cracking support the last time we were in Perth, but I reckon we'll see a couple of hundred heid-the-baws go up at best. A 4pm kick-off, live on free-to-air TV, on a Sunday and they still charge £22 admittance - they can shove it up their hoop, I'll be watching it in the house, eating a Sunday dinner and having a couple of beers - fucking arseholes.
-
Big Mick for me, absolutely strolled through the game today. Ramsden a close second, really liking him at right back. On the negative side I thought ZFA and vigurs were awful
-
It's not often that I say it but...... I agree with Steelboy......to a certain extent. Vigurs was honking today, lazy, lazy player who gifts possession to the opposition far too often. However, his opinion on McManus is a load of pish. The big man strolls through games, and for me was motm today - for me, ZFA was at fault for Hearts goal today. Anyway, we aren't firing on all cylinders and we are still winning far more games than we are losing. Moores goal was an absolute topper.

Thought we thoroughly deserved the three points, we were totally convincing for the majority of the match. Thought McManus coasted through the match yet again today, he is shaping up to be a great signing. Hutchinson on the other hand looked rash at times and is constantly getting dragged out of position. Ramsden is solid at full back. I thought Faddy was having one of his better games this season, although Steelboy disagreed and obviously managed to have a word with McCall about him at half-time. I agree with the poster above though, Ainsworth should be starting on the right with Faddy either up front or on the left. On Ainsworth, I reckon we've found a gem, his corners are perfect every time, and his crossing whilst in play is far better than our old right winger. I keep saying it but Carswell impresses me every time I watch him, his energy levels are top notch and he's now easily a 1st pick. I'm quick to be negative where Sutton is concerned but he played really well today and his nack of getting vital goals so far has been impressive. Grant Munro must be the slowest player in the league though to get out-paced by him for the 2nd goal though. All-in-all, a good day, even at half-time I felt we'd do on to win

Lawson is nowhere near as slow as Forbes
-
I feel as though I vote for this guy just about every time he plays, but he covers just about every blade of grass everytime I watch him, not showy or flashy, but I reckon he's going to be a top player for us in the next couple of seasons........Stuart Carswell.
-
1st away game of the season, and cannae say I enjoyed what was served up too much. Been absolutely spoiled over the past couple of seasons with our fluidity and flair, and I'm struggling to get excited by whats been served up at the moment, although we seem to have developed the habit of grinding results out. Can't understand the negativity towards Lawson, thought he was excellent last night, I think some folks man-love for Lasley is clouding their judgement - Lawsons passing ability as shown last night is tremendous. Also like the look of Ainsworth, looks like a real winger to me, someone with pace and a bit of ability to get past his man.

If you are reading Michael, you are a tadger
-
Best defensive midfielder we've had at the club in years, surprised to see him without a Club. Would love to see him back at Fir Park but unfortunately, that would be one centre-mid too many on the books. A midfield of Jennings and Carsewell would be dynamite
-
Also, meant to say, Killie are awful - they'll do we'll to avoid relegation
-
Delighted with the three points - and 9 for the season so far. Not quite sure how we managed to win the match though, again the last 25mins or so were terrible. Why we are persisting with Faddy on the right, I have no idea. Thought Ramsden and Carswell were the stand outs.
-
Carswell this week again - the best young prospect currently at Fir Park.
-
We'll see. It's not often that I'm wrong though
-
Agreed. Watched him play for the 19s a fair bit a couple of seasons back and never thought he was up to much at that level, let alone 1st team
-
Another terrible match - just happy we clung on in the end for 3pts. Carswell for me was outstanding motm performance until he had to go off - which incidentally co-incided with Thistle starting to dominate the match. Thought the defence was solid enough, but how many balls were flung into our box in the last 20 and how often did our keeper venture off his line? ZFA offers zilch, nadda, zip, nothing. To be fair to the boy he isn't a natural winger and it shows - badly. Felt Faddy came onto more of a game in the 2nd half but is it only me that finds it soul-destroying to see him trot out to play at right-mid every week? To have a player of his ability, stature and wage packet chasing opposition full-backs to his own by-line doesn't make any sense. Get him in behind the striker! As for the striker, aye he got a goal today, and you can't fault his effort, other than that I've nothing else to add
-
Will not be happy if we take one of Celtics youngsters on loan - fucking ridiculous
-
Sssssshhhh
-
Nae need for a plane I'll drive him wherever he needs to go
-
Nope, the 'useless, lump o' wid' for me
-
He's the best of a bad bunch by the looks of things
-
A 442 system isn't going to work with the personnel available. I'd change to a 3 at the back, with two wing-backs. Hollis Ramsden Hutch McManus Kerr Hammell Lawson Vigurs. Lasley Faddy One of our shite strikers
-
We have nae chance of being relegated so I'm not panicking, but bottom 6 looks like a probability.
