So would I, but thats not the point I was trying to make.

I've long since come to terms with losing our better players year on year, but constantly losing our managers to larger clubs is beginning to really get on my nerves. I'd love to see someone come in and do a job with the long-term in mind....what can we do to keep our next manager at Fir Park for longer than 2 or 3 seasons?
-
Ach well, it was time for a change of signature anyway.

What a waste of talent Nicky Law, chasing the pound signs - disgraceful decision. Can understand someone like Jon Daly doing it, someone who is near the end of their career, but someone with the potential to earn just as much cash at a better level is letting himslef down badly.

I'm really hoping that McCall will stay, however if he gets offered the job he'll grab the opportunity with both hands I'm sure. Huge club, that will pay a lot more money than we do and will have much more resources. I can also imagine McCall being in a strong position in any interview by simply stating that he'll be able to take the likes of Law, Higdon, Humphrey, Hately and even possibly Faddy with him to sheffield - the players seem to love him and with an increased wage and a reasonable stage, with the real opportunity to move up to teh Championship I reckon they would all follow him. As for who I would want to replace him? I'm actually very relaxed about this, over the past few years we have a great record of managerial appointments, of which fans of other (bigger) clubs are rightly jealous of. I'm thoroughly relaxed at the thought of our board seeking high and low for a new gaffer and not jumping in with two feet at some of the names being suggested here or in the media. For what its worth, who on here would have come up with the name Mark McGhee to replace Malpish? Gannon to replace McGhee? Brown to replace Gannon? McCall to replace Brown?? Not me thats for sure... Again, though I'd steer clear of Hartley, for all the great job he has done with Alloa, we dont need an unproven guy with limited contacts down South. Joe Jordan would have no interest in it, and from what I've heard he's a bit of a fanny anyway. Craigan, see Paul Hartley except he is 100times less experienced. Gary Mac would be an interesting one, but he's previously knocked it back before, does he have the heart for it? Nijholt, Van der Gaag, doubt they'd be interested. John Collins, seems to last 5mins in a job before getting bored or the sack. Mark McGhee, the season book money will be staying in my pocket if he gets anywhere near the job. In summary, I really hope the Blades dont offer him the job, but if they do he'll be away, and I wouldnt grudge him the move for a second and if he does I trust the board to continue their successful recruitment process.

Paul Hartley has done a tremendous job at Alloa, and I must admit that I like what I hear from him when he is being interviewed, but we need a manager with real good contacts and an eye for a bargain. I'm not sure that Hartley has proven to have either yet.

Away ye go, there were players in that team today who hardly tried a leg. Null vote fae me. Abysmal stuff today

St Johnstone V Motherwell, 19 May 2013 At 12.45Pm

Firstly, the team have been outstanding this season.......but that was an utterly disgraceful performance today, the players looked like they really couldn't give a fuck which is a slap in the face to the 1500 or so 'well fans who went up with the sole aim of giving them one final ovation this season. I'd have thought that the players who were chosen to play would have had enough pride to actually put in a bit of graft and desire. There were lads in that team who should have been fighting to earn contracts or starting berths in next seasons 1st team and those that weren't should have knuckled down to aid those boys.....but the holiday heads were on and most of the team looked lie they couldn't care less. Total waste of a Sunday afternoon -
What a fucking thought

Not a huge fan of Humphrey in general, but yesterday everything he tried just seemed to come off for him, one of his best displays in a Motherwell jersey.

As self-appointed Chairman of The Michael Higdon Appreciation Society, I am absolutely delighted for the big man. Fully justified winner, absolutely brilliant two years in Claret and Amber. Mon the Higdonkey!!!

I'd agree that in general he is criticism-free at Fir Park, he's had a couple of poor games since he signed and even in the ones he he has played well in he has still mis-placed a lot of passes, however he is still international class and in fact is, in my opinion, the most exciting player in the league. It's actually baffling how he is playing for us at the moment.

Player of the Season 1. Higdon - defended him ever since he signed, as I could see what he was good at and what he was shite at. People say that his style of fitba isnt pleasing on the eye, I dont agree, I love the way he holds the ball up and brings others into play before. To score, 25-30 goals in a season for Motherwell is utterly phenomenol stuff really 2. Randolph - quite simply the best goalkeeper we've had in my time watching Motherwell, and should be looking at top level Championship with an eye on promotion to the EPL. 3. Law - classy wee player, although feel that we have lacked a bit of bite in midfield this season, and more oftne than not found ourselves out-numbered in the middle he has generally done the business. Young Player of the Season Cummins - had some dodgy moments from time-to-time, but I think a lot of that can be put down to the lack on experienced cb beside him when he's been called on. Goal of The Season Higginbothams overhead kick, technique was awesome. He's been hard done to, with the re-signing of Faddy in my opinion. Signing of The Season There can be only one contender for this. The guy shouldnt be playing in our league let alone for us. A genuine genuis on the ball, and even when he is having quiet spells you can still see teams wary of him, doubling up on him and allowing space for others.

Motherwell 1994/95 V Motherwell 2012/13

Dykstra was still there, but Nijholt wasnt. The other one was Phil, who left at the start of the 1994/95 season. -

There wasnt a helluva lot of difference personnel wise between the 93-94 and 94-95 teams. -

I dont agree that he was better than Howie or Brown, the three I would say are much of a muchness. We've had three great goalies since I've watched Motherwell, Dykstra, Ruddy and Randolph, the rest vary from being average to downright pish. -
Motherwell 1994/95 V Motherwell 2012/13

Agree with that, but I'd be tempted to put Hateley in for Shannon - right back is probably the weakest position in both teams. -
I've always felt that the 1994/1995 season was the best season a Motherwell side have had in the time I've followed the team, and I know its extremely difficult to compare teams and eras but how does this current team stack up in comparison to the last Motherwell team to finish 2nd in the league (assuming we manage that this season as well). Obviously there are some stand-out differences; Formation - we tended to play 3 at the back in those days, with two wing backs and 3 in the middle, in comaprison to the more gung-ho formation we have at the moment. The Old Firm - Celtic werent anywhere near the force they soon became in the Fergus McCann years, but we still managed to split the OF. This season we are 2nd best without Rangers in the league. Money - we seemed to have more readily available cash in this era, going by the money we shelled out in Big Ecks second season . Experience - the 1994/95 team was hugely experienced, 2 Scotland caps in the starting 11 and TC just back from starring in USA 94 with Ireland. Most of the team had been round the block a few times. 10 of the regular starting 11 were Scots, whilst the only 'non-Scot' was Scotsman Tommy Coyne. The State of Scottish Football - in general terms, we were a much better footballing nation than the one we are just now, although we missed out on USA94, we competed in the Euros in 1992 and 1996 as well as the WC's in 1990 and 1998. The League itself was also more competitive with much stronger Hearts, Dundee United and Aberdeen teams than we've seen this season Season 1994/95 finished with us looking like this P W D L F A GD PTS 2Motherwell361412105050054 Currently we are sitting with P W D L F A GD PTS 34 16 9 9 59 44 +15 57 Tommy Coyne finished the season as the Leagues top scorer with 16, so far Michael Higdon has 25 goals with 4 games remaining. For what its worth our 1994/95 team v our 2012/13 team would look something like this; Woods Randolph Shannon Hateley McKinnon Hammell Martin Hutchison McCart Ramsden Philliben Law Lambert Lasley Davies Humphrey Dolan McFadden Arnott Ojamma Coyne Higdon I'm not knocking our current team or their achievements this season for a second, I've enjoyed this season hugely, but I reckon the team of 1994/95, the team that split the Old Firm, the team that ran Borrussia Dortmund close, the team that went on to produce a Champions League winner, the team that had a guy playing beyond the group stages of USA94, was the better all round package, despite having Stevie Woods in goal. The big pity for me is that we allowed McLeish to spend a rake of cash to dismantle it and fill it withe Andy Roddies, Eddie Mays and Shaun McSkimmings.

By 'done', I mean I'm unable to attend due to shitty scheduling

I've decided that I'll not be buying a season book next season. What's the point when my season is done by the middle of April? Shame as well, because without a season ticket I don't see me being at many games next season.

If Sheffield United offer him the job he'll be off. The money on offer, his previous history with them and sheer size of the club will be too hard to turn down. I'd also expect to see a few of our out of contract players going with him.
