  1. Don't get me wrong, i think he can play there, he certainly has the ability. I just don't think its the best use of him and I dont think playing them will help his longevity
  2. I think we are probably in agreement here Joe...when I said 'front two', I was meaning him being the foil for someone like Moult, but on far too many occasions for me, he has ultimately ended up as an additional midfielder being expected to track back, match his man etc.
  3. There is more to being an Assistant Manager than some coaching badges...for me, coaching badges are a lot of shite anyway and thats coming from someone who has some coaching qualifications. If Keith Lasley is the best that Robinson can get to be his No.2 then fine, thats where we are, but if its a case of 'ach fuck it, he'll do, he's Motherwell through and through and it'll be nice to keep him about the place', then I'm afraid that won't be enough. The Club need to do what is best for the Club, its not a retirement home. We seemed to bring Robinson in last season to help McGhee because our Assistant Manager wasn't up to it, hopefully we don't make that mistake again.
  4. I've been highly critical of his appointment, the circumstances around it, his style of play and his mental formations in the relegation run-in. However, I've been a bit more impressed with him recently, how he helped grind out a result at Accies, how he had the courage to change his formation and personnel so quickly against Kille for example... ...I've also found myself nodding in agreement at a few things he has said since that Killie game. He clearly talks a good game, his reluctance to celebrate after avoiding relegation sits well with me, as does his criticism of players over-celebrating meaningless goals in a defeat in an ultimately meaningless match, he has said the right things in terms of next season as well, with him saying that this season has been unacceptable and he doesnt want a repeat next year, he has also started his pre-season straight away, emptying some of the players from the squad who either weren't good enough or providing enough for what we were paying them, although I don't think he will be finished on that front with one or two still in contract players liable to be asked to leave by hook or by crook. The rebuild job is massive this year, and hopefully he knows what hes doing...hes gone some way to win me over recently just by the manner he has gone about his business off the field...but talk is cheap, just look at his best pal Baraclough who seemed to be able to talk his way out of any situation, hopefully Robinson does more than talk the talk.
  5. ...and some of the players being discussed aren't former Motherwell players
  6. He left on good terms of course he did...but he signed for Rangers and not many players over the years have signed for either side of the OF and come back to a rapturous welcome. Footballers need to grow a thicker skin if a few fannies calling them names puts them off a career move. From my point of view I'm certainly not going to be sitting on my hands with Duck Tape on my mouth, just on the off chance that I say something that may offend an opposing player and put him off Fir Park for life.
  7. The jobs for the boys thing, just gets on my nerves to be honest. If he is the best we have available after doing a proper search then fair do's...
  8. As for Hibs...I really don't see that happening
  9. Skippy was showing signs of his age in the second part of the season just past, but by fuck we'll miss him regardless of that. His will to win, his petulance, his ability to get under opponents skin and his talent make him one of the best strikers to have played for Motherwell in my time. I felt that since we signed him from Millwall we never really played him correctly, he was always dropping deep, often playing in midfield....IF another team do sign him up, they'll see better results from him playing as part of an out-and-out front 2, which might help preserve him a wee bit more as well, without having to do too much tracking back. We've been blessed with goalscorers over the past 20 years or so...Coyne, Arnott, Coyle, Jutkiewicz, Porter, McCormack, Clarkson, Higdon, Sutton, Moult and McDonald...Hopefully Robinson can replace the last two, with a couple of names worthy of adding to that list.
  10. Are you saying that Lee McCulloch decided not to sign for us (I actually never realised we were after him at any point) because some folk in the East Stand had a go at him when he was playing against us in a Sevco top?
  11. Lasley as Assistant Manager? Nah, no thanks
  12. We're veering away from Motherwell chat here...the taxi driver, will be along to tell us we're spastics
  13. I think Kingsley has been playing at centre-back for Swansea on the odd occasion that hes managed to get on the park
  14. We've got to weigh up what is best for the Club, a) an offer of £500k if Big wispy flossy is right and try to replace him or b) hold onto him as the money is shite, and his goals and work-rate are invaluable to staving off relegation
  15. Him and Lennon had a very public spat, this time last year. I can't see him staying in Scotland
  16. I think Skippy has been showing signs of ageing recently as well...still very influential on the park though and will be a big miss
  17. Yip...you want threads closed down, but not stifle debate. People are discussing John Hughes and his managerial ability, purely because many people wanted him in our managers position...me? I've not even been involved in it, but I'm happy to read everyones point of view on anything they so wish to discuss...even how tenuous the link to Motherwell.
  18. Yip, lets stifle any type of debate
  19. Agreed...I see whoever finishes in 11th spot as clear favourites to beat either Falkirk or United, just as I'd have considered ourselves to be favourites if we had ended up in the play-off. How many Championship teams have come up since they were started?
  20. This is the way I see it...I've been extremely critical of the circumstances around his appointment, and I'm not convinced he was the best man for the job. However, he has kept us up, and deserves a chance to have a crack at next season. Like others, I was impressed with how quickly he took action to replace Ferguson, other managers may have waited until half-time and by that point the damage may have been done. Pre-season is going to be a big ask for him, considering the amount of changes he will have to make...lets see how he gets on
  21. The Clubs best signing in recent years is clearly the Head Groundsman, he along with his team have been an absolute credit to the Club. The pitch has been absolutely immaculate all season
  22. Cadden for me, in much the same way that Lionel changed the game in an attacking sense, Cadden changed it in a defensive one while still flinging the odd attack in for good measure. The boy Jones gave us a torrid time, until Cadden played him out of the match.
  23. I've never been his biggest fan, a very limited footballer in my opinion, but he was excellent last night...I had a Canadian relative with me last night at his 1st Motherwell game who pretty much summed him up for me, 'he doesnt look like he has much ability, but he gives it everything'. Sentimentality shouldn't come into our thinking this year, whether that be on or off the park.
  24. I've made my thoughts on the appointment of Robinson crystal clear further up the discussion and a scrappy 1-0 win at NDP isnt going to change my opinion on that. However, if he keeps us up, there is no way in the World that he wont be in charge next season. He was given an 18month deal and I can only imagine there would be any sort of break-clause written in there somewhere for the event of relegation. I can see an influx of Northern Irish under 21 players coming in though...
