Of course people need to spend money to generate a club. I think what a lot of people are trying to highlight here are there are many supporters that could be season ticket holders, but there are also many reasons why they are not. Finding the reasons why they are not and suggesting solutions that might turn more people into season ticket holders is something we are interested in. I imagine the club would be too. Looking at it from the clubs perspective; they know to within a certain number, how many season tickets they will sell every season at the current prices. If they dropped prices, they would need to ensure they reached the same level of income (minimum) than they currently do just now. Or it just wouldn't be worth it. I suspect this will be a debate that the club are extremely interested in over the next couple of seasons as they make the progression to a community owned club. The fairest point raised so far is the jump in price from juvenile to adult. The club need to look at supporter retention and development, at all levels.

This is a great post Andy, raises plenty of good points and is full of common sense

Good thread this one, it is interesting to see all the predictions of who will finish where. I'll reserve judgement until closer to the start of the season. For now I would say Motherwell would be doing very well to finish in the top 6. We need more players, hopefully a couple with experience.

Thanks for all the replies to this post. I still go to football because I love it; playing 5's and 7's, watching it on TV and trips to Fir Park and elsewhere. When there is good game, or a special moment in a game (skill, tackle, goal, passing move) I get a buzz. I enjoy going to Fir Park with my mates but we don't have season tickets for various reasons, the two main ones being; 1. They are simply too expensive for the football on offer 2. Other commitments - kids, work (one mate is a self-employed gardener so has to take work when he gets it and when the weather allows), mortgages, rising costs in food etc etc - so we can't commit to going to every home game There is absolutely no problem in getting a ticket for any Motherwell game i want to go to - home or away. Last season I probably went to 10 games; 8 at home and two away including the cup final. If I could get a season ticket for £200 I would go for it, even if I'm not going to go for every game. It is affordable and I think it would represent value for money at Fir Park. As it is, it is closer to £300. That initial splash is just too much in my opinion. Motherwell probably have the prices just about right for their current loyal fanbase. They know what they will get away with. However in terms of attracting new season ticket holders, I don't know how many they will get. If I was an Accies fan, I'd be going for the £130 option. Simply because it is value for money even if you go to around 505 of the games.

I was just reading in the Record that Accies season tickets are an amazing £130 and they come with two season tickets for under 10's. Amazing value for money (well under a tenner a game), I know they have dropped a division so I don't know what they were previously. Despite that I can't see them increasing their gates. You never know though. I still think that Motherwell's season tickets are priced too high
-
£300 over and above a season ticket is a lot of money to most fans, however I think a lot will recognise that this is an extremely important venture for the club at he present time and dig deep if possible. It is an exciting time to be a Motherwell supporter. If the strategy works and the community buy into it, then Motherwell will improve dramatically as a football club and others will follow our example. It won't be easy....is it ever?

They do have a good travelling support and i hope they get back into the Premiership down south. United V Leeds is always a tasty game.
-
i'll be very surprised if Leeds bring 2,000 fans for a friendly up here. Pleasantly surprised right enough. Hope they wash before they arrive - dirty, dirty Leeds

Absolutely no chance of Fowler coming to Motherwell. Not that he needs the money given his property portfolio. He would put bums on seats though. Sell a few season tickets

It will be interesting to see how many members come on board.

I don't know Leeann Dempster but she is someone I would have a lot of time for. Common sense, practical, creative and passionate. i look forward with interest to the announcement in a few weeks time.

How refreshing to read a positive post with common sense and backed up by stats on this board. I agree - Forbes is one of the best football players on Motherwell's books. His ability to pick a pass and eye for goal isn't utilised. His lack of pace means there is no way we could play him in a 3 man midfield though.

A trip to Fort William would be amazing. Here are some new suggestions; At home FC United of Manchester - they would bring a crowd Birmingham - Alex McLeish to bring his team back to Motherwell Aston Villa - if McAllister stays could he sneak a wee trip back up the road? Away AFC Wimbledon - looking to test themselves against higher quality opposition Queens Park - a return trip to Hampden where we might win Carluke Rovers (for the reserves) - to officially open their new stadium - I remember Motherwell coming to town when I was a kid and Tam Forsyth came on as a sub

Agreed, Murphy will need rested at times. We need some experience upfront McCall has his work cut out

Back home to Carluke on Friday night, down to see if Dougie Arnott is serving in the Thackit, few beers with mates. Down to my mates for breakfast on Saturday then Dixie Dean's old pub is opening the function room at 10.45am on the Saturday. Listen to some tunes, catch p with some old friends. Bus to the ground. Then who knows...... All the best to everyone going

I'd recommend The Church on the Hill. It will be rammed but ideal for a beer in the sunshine. http://www.qype.co.uk/place/180454-church-on-the-hill-Glasgow The aforementioned Clockwork is also very handy and has a beer garden if it is sunny. Otherwise just get into the city centre early doors.

Kicking it old skool! We called them Reni hats back in the day, or beanie hats as well. (Reni was the drummer in the Stone Roses for anyone uneducated musically). I think you should try and get some Joe Bloggs/Benzini flares as well. I think our bus from Carluke will have some Mondays/Roses/Charlatans/Carpets tunes on it on the way to the game.

I think the 4 ticket option for Season Ticket Holders is fair enough. It encourages regular match going supporters to invite family and friends - rather than the aforementioned Celtic supporters getting their hands on them. I seriously don't think there will be a problem with Motherwell supporters getting their hands on a ticket if they really want one. God, we only took 7,000 to the semi!
-
Just back from a week doing the West Highland Way and i can't believe the legs that this thread has. Of course a lot of fans will come out of the woodwork for the final, but there won't be any issues getting a ticket, especially if we get an allocation of 15,000.
-
I hope Motherwell adopt United's attitude of sensible ticket pricing for the replay

Reynolds was alright for Motherwell and I think the majority of fans would see him back here, largely as our squad is threadbare, so we can't be too choosey. He had a particularly good season a couple of years ago. Whether or not he has the mentality to step up a level remains to be seen. Judge him at the end of the season. I don't catch a lot of League One football, but at a guess I would say that is a relatively fair comment. Some players can step up a level - such as Charlie Adam, who wasn't rated at Rangers. Others are being found out, such as Kris Boyd whose lack of discipline off the field is now showing him up on it. Snodgrass, McCarthur and McCarthy are other examples of players ready to step up from the SPL t o Championship/Premiership level. From Motherwell our shining example is James McFadden. Jeffers - I've caught a couple of his games and he looks half decent, if only we had the midfielders to supply him with the passes he needs. Good luck with the rest of your season too.
