  1. I echo the comments re the Motherwell statement, dignified and heartfelt. McAllister would a very interesting appointment. John Collins would also do it for me. I would personally stay clear of appointing someone with no managerial experience like Craigan. It is a testing time for the club with a threadbare squad. Someone with contacts to get players on loan and experience and a playing record that people can look up to is the way to go.
  2. Bad news. What is quite funny though is that I emailed Craig Brown yesterday about work related stuff (I work for a charity that Craig supports) and I said well done for turning it down, whoever takes that job would be mad! Hope we try to get someone of equal experience in his place.
  3. Not quite club chat, but Craig Brown should get a dvd of last nights Barca game and make the team sit down and watch it every day. Top class stuff.
  4. I think you have claret and amber tinted glasses on. Whilst I would have loved these players to have stayed at Motherwell, realistically we can't offer them the wages that other clubs can. We don't have the fanbase that other clubs do. And without those to things we can't keep a stable team/squad. Andy Walker had a good career. You can't argue against that. MacDonald played in the Champions League, scoring a winner against AC Milan. O'Donnell was very unlucky with injuries, Pearson has drifted and has also had his fair share of injuries. This is an interesting topic though, where would we be if we had held on to recent departees. I would have loved us to have held on to O'Brien. However I don't think we have missed Quinn or Porter. McCormack needs to get his game back but he had an amazing first season at Cardiff.
  5. Yeah Forbes may lack pace but he knows how to play the game.
  6. Have to agree, Gow had a decent game. Controlled the ball well, couple of great turns and runs with the ball. His fitness is improving and he could turn out to be a great signing.
  7. We were poor today. Good turn out from Motherwell for the game. Our defence looked incredibly shaky, Hately is a full-back, not a midfielder. Plus points - Gow is getting fitter and looks comfortable on the ball, screamer of a goal, Forbes and Sutton played well when they came on. We played our best football towards the end, couple of great moves when Humphrey finally got some service down the right. Could have nicked it, probably should have.
  8. I am enjoying this thread Murphy - has done very well in the u-21's, in Europe and in the league with Motherwell. To name him in the squad would be a boost to his growing confidence and give him the chance to train with guys like Darren Fletcher and Craig Gordon. He is pacey, has an eye for goal and is comfortable with the ball. That said, he could improve his strength and looking at my comments above, he isn't really a Levein type player! Reynolds - I don't think Reynolds is good enough to play for Scotland, that said he should surely be selected above Steven Caldwell. Humphrey - is certainly pacey but tends to always go on the outside and can be found out. He could be good against opposition like the Faroes, but he isn't international class. Lets be honest. Take off the claret and amber tinted glasses. Hammel - is not international class in any shape or form. Good pro for the 'well but nowhere near good enough or fit enough to represent the country.
  9. Reynolds maybe. But Hammell in the Scotland squad - he isn't good enough, lets be honest. He would get ripped apart at international level. Granted the Faroes are not exactly top of the class of international football, but Hammell isn't the the present or future for Scotland. Reynolds may have a chance. I wouldn't be surprised if Brown asked Levein not to choose Murphy or Reynolds so they can rest. It has been a very busy time for them lately. That said, it is also in Brown's best interests to get international caps for these players to try and increase their transfer value. So who knows?
  10. Kevin Kyle being in a Scotland squad at any level is a joke. Murphy has been very productive for the u-21's and for Motherwell over the last 18-months, surely he deserves a call. That said, a midweek break won't do him, Humphrey and Reynolds any harm at all ahead of the winter schedule. it has been a pretty hectic period of late.
  11. going a bit far check youtube for fc united of manchester to see how to support a team
  12. Yeah no surprise at all and I for one am pleased that Motherwell are running a tight ship. We don't want to go into admin again. I think you'll find more and more clubs going to the wall in the next few seasons. Hearts are in real trouble if Romanov walks out, in fact they are in real trouble as it is.
  13. don't think that will affect ticket sales too much for well fans however i hope that the tickets are priced accordingly
  14. This is an interesting topic. I wouldn't qualify someone who has given years of service as a legend. I would say that Craigan is a top professional, but not a legend. That would be like saying John O'Shea is a Manchester United legend. As for Lasley and Hammell, they have both given fantastic service as well, but I would also class them as good pro's rather than legends. Your point about legends staying at the same club is an interesting one. Could it be that the three players mentioned above are not good enough to get a move to a 'better' club and a higher wage? A legend has to do something remarkable, put their stamp on a moment in time, get you on the edge of your seat, get you talking about them pre and post game. McFadden was the last player to do that for me at Fir Park. Murphy has the potential to do the same and go on to a higher stage than we can offer. I do like Jennings who may well have the potential to go on to be a Colin O'Neill type figure, or get a move elsewhere. Good topic/debate
  15. Gahagan is a good shout for a mention. And Colin O'Neil - why was he not in our list?!
  16. My mate and I were discussing former players at the weekend and were both in relative agreement on our top 5. Being in our mid-30's we are largely influenced by the 91 cup side; Cooper - top class to watch at close quarters from the front row of the old terracing O'Donnell - especially the early days, box-to-box, unbelievable energy, goalscoring threat MacKinnon - motored up and down the left side, gritty and determined Arnott - Legend, 100% every game, did amazingly well Nijholt - pure class at the back Bubbling under; Boyd McFadden Dikstra Kirk Martin Anyone care to share their own?
  17. I agree. I think Forbes is a decent player, gets the ball down, has good vision and looks to keep possession. He does lack pace though and isn't match fit due to lack of games. If Lasley is out, Forbes is the obvious candidate to come in. Shame he hasn't kicked on from his brilliant start to last season.
  18. na na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na na, BLACKMAN to the old Batman tune
  19. Well you were on top form last night!
  20. Don't know if anyone sits in the Main Stand here but there is a great guy who sits towards the away end who has a booming voice and he was giving Houston pelters last night. Hilarious. He got Houston to look round after one comment. He then backed it up by saying 'no wonder the national teams in the state it is with you and Levein in charge. And don't get me started on Hegarty.'
  21. he was certainly limping post match as the teams were coming off we will miss him if he is out, his pace and invention are the best we have
  22. Gow looked f**ked after 10 minutes. That said, he needs minutes to improve his fitness. He has a touch there somewhere.
  23. Jennings for me. We started brightly but faded when Murphy went off. We couldn't get the ball to Humph enough and the service to Blackman was practically non existent. United were awful, we were not much better.
  24. Just back from a post match beer in the Fir Park Club. Loads of police in interviewing staff and patrons. Apparently a crowd of 30-40 United casuals rocked up 30 minutes after kick off and started throwing chairs around and smashing bottles. Very brave of them considering it was Tuesday night bingo!

is Keith Lasley's family all members of this board? Did he not concede possession for any goals? At least one. Every week he gets nominations and i can't recall the last time he did anything of note.
