I`d happily watch the style of football the U20`s play any day of the week! However, the physical step up for some of these young guys is massive. Definately think this could be the way to go forward. However, it`s a juggle to stay up and develope at the same time. I`d happily go down a division if we could emulate what Fergie done at St Mirren and laterly at Man Utd. However, it could easily backfire and you could follow the path of St Mirren present. Big call for BOD`s but pretty sure they will go for a more moderate option and play safe.

Not sure of John Hughes credentials as manager, but all the good football that was associated with him, seemed to tie in when Russell Latapy was coaching along with him. I know Latapy left ICT to become a manager in his own right and may have coincided with the downturn in Hughes stock. Not sure who i fancy as manager, but, however it is, needs to juggle with a promenance on youth players, experienced players to assist and generate a buzz around Fir Park again, especially with fan ownership. However it is, has a huge job on his hands! Fingers crossed for a talented appointment.

I've always been positive in regards to Mark McGhee, however he has a track record of adopting overthought formations that seem to unravel more times than not. I'm unsure about players downing tools though! Granted, if I was Moult, Skippy, Ainsworth I would be pissed of at the defensive tactics and utilisation of defensive midfielders "supporting" forward players. We look pedestrian at best and often unbalanced at worst. However, new players coming in may address this, however they will need time to adapt to the pace here and the step up. Next season after a "proper preseason" may show the hidden gems we are trying to exploit. I think the big picture maybe longer term with the U20 players making a break though, so IMO I still think Mark McGhee and Co can turn this around in time. However, he needs to bring back entertainment in selections while juggling with youth, ageing players and lower league players. A tall order for anyone. FFS though, get back to basics and have a go with the flair players Mark. COYW!

Personally, I thought that he tried to be too smart with the line up.However, Rangers created nothing and with 10 mins to go, I was thinking, finally you've tactically nailed it! Should have known better as I've seen it all before supporting Motherwell FC. No J.P.R. Gordon to blame this time. It lies squarely with some of the players!
-
Surprised at line up today and even more surprised at 4-4-1-1 formation, with Clay behind Moult? Surrendered possession and seemed to stand off for large parts. However I was surprised at how few chances they created up until halftime and beyond. Moult worked tirelessly and had little or no support. However, after taking the lead, we should have seen that game out. Both goals totally avoidable but not unusual for us! Gutted to throw that away in the end and carries on a Motherwell FC tradition of bottling it to this lot. Can't even blame the officials today who officiated well and who could have awarded a penalty first half. Bottles crashed when it mattered!

A great guy who will be sorely missed. Condolences to Sandra and all the family. You'll never be forgotten Big Yin. R.I.P.

Listening on stream but sounds like it could be a defensive shit feast. Rangers just aren't that good. FFS have a go! Glad Skippy was listening lol! -

Going the be interesting looking at formations and tactics today. Hopefully we improve our possession stats and keep their full backs pinned back. No more sitting deep, standing off players and basically giving away terroritry. Listening to MM he implies after the run around at Celtic Park, the players fitness-stamina stats dropped for the St J match. Let's hope things have been addressed on the training ground and he impresses on a more competitive pressing game. However, I'm starting to think too many current players are unfortunately short of quality and pace to compete at top SPL levels. Early days for some of them, but let's see how things develop. Fingers crossed for a good result today and take care if you're travelling to the match. COYW -
For me, the passing game of the u20's is the way to go. All European teams pyramid, styles and tactics toward top team action. I'd be disappointed if M.McG didn't actively encourage this style when players and tactics eventually gel. One thing for sure, present and possibly past coaches deserve mega plaudits for the style and swagger of the young lads. Fantastic technique and entertaining football. I just hope it's not booted out of them as they progress ( as referenced by Al B) A few should also look at Cadden and work on body strength in parallel with skill and touch. Even if they devote extra time in the gym and work on programs through the fitness coach, I'm sure this would enhance their development. Long term strategy, but worth it when you don't have squillions to spend. Interesting times with the youth!

Ins - Outs I guess the Well Society effect has now well and truly kicked in. Get used to mediocrity (-) unless our scouting unearths a few more gems. However, I would suggest that our Youth Program needs to be the main focus. Everything needs to be in place for the long haul and that takes a lot of work! Hang tight folks and hopefully a few youngsters start impacting over the coming season. COYW Edit Really impressed with the passing game and ball retention of the U20's. If this is replicated from the younger kids to U20's, we could see dividends over time.

Our "Ins-Outs" signing policy for midfield is a head scratcher. From quick counter attack to; #unbalanced-slow-wtf

Sometimes drubbings happen. However, that was inevitable with our formation-tactics last night. I've always backed McGhee 100%, but my frustration with him is his thought process of squaring up against superior teams. He basically gave Celtic full possession and the freedom to attack at will. In short we basically gave them the platform to showboat the talents they excel in! McGhee outsmarted himself and the team again. Look forward to the next encounter and an attacking line up ⚽️

Really upbeat about this appointment. Said before with the onset of fan ownership, we need to look at appointing McGhee as (manager/Alex Ferguson role)and look at progressive ways we can grow the club within the restraints we will undoubtedly face. I'm sure Faddy will bring a freshness and ensure players express themselves as he develops his new role! Best wishes Faddy!

Hutchie has made massive improvement in his 2 years at Fulham, but I can guarantee he wants to play football week in and out. I do think he will look at options at home and abroad, but don't also rule out coming back to Scotland. Wish we could take him back on a 2 year deal, but think our present cover wouldn't warrant this. Can see an Old Firm, Aberdeen, Hearts return as possible!

Looking at the longer term, we need a solid preseason and the bedding in of new/inexperienced players to formations and structures. IMO Europe would be a distraction next season and possibly hinder us. The SPFL will be a tougher prospect next season due to a couple of teams making huge improvements and potentially 1 or 2 teams promoted, being of better quality to those heading down. Any teams making a slow start next season, may never recover! Let's hope Mark McGhee and co can springboard forward, ,similar to his first Austrian preseason and with that place, let's aim for a high finish or decent cup run/win. Lots of hard work ahead, but it finally looks like things are falling into place.

Well done To everyone associated at Motherwell FC. A fantastic end to the season. It's going to be interesting, juggling development of youngsters and resigning or bringing in new players for next season. Anyway, we can enjoy the split without the threat of play offs or relegation. Definitely sat too deep In the first half, but played really well 2nd half. Ripley had a nightmare for the 2nd goal, but IMO was our man of the match. Looks like a good togetherness at the club, with encouragement for the goalie and players yesterday. Onwards and upwards! -

Looking forward to this one tomorrow. Especially, as I'm watching this one in a Shellic pub abroad. Here's hoping Mark McGhee doesn't overthink this one and play a strange formation. We are capable of winning this or at worst picking up a point. The Shellic fans I speak to are panicking about this one, big time. New MFC strip looked out with pride for this one. COYW -
To be fair, I wasn't suggesting him moving upstairs at this time. More of blue printing the way forward for the club and moving upstairs sometime later when the time arose. Mark McGhee has loads still to offer as a manager. However, I think he is the man to develop MFC as manager and in future roles. Probably won't happen, but worth discussing.
-
Mark McGhee's appointment was bang on the money for me. In fact, IMO, I'd take things a step further, with the onset of fan ownership. I'd be looking to establish him within the club, in much the same way as Alex Ferguson at Man Utd. Whether, he'd have any interest, I'm unsure, but I'd like to think, he could be the man to lay the foundation of the new look Motherwell FC. Not sure everyone would agree with this, but I'm interested on fellow Well fans thoughts!

Since John Chapman, we've posted losses most years. So sorry Steelboy, recent events beg to differ! However, if we can break even or post a small profit while entertaining, everyone's happy.
-
I must admit about having grave reservations about this! However, I'd agree about next to no other viable options, so we are where we are! I had a conversation about two years ago with John Chapman and he simplified the running of Motherwell Football Club in his tenure. If wee Tommy came banging on his door looking for money and it was thought necessary, he got whatever money we had available minus a small amount. He advocated about not spending what we didn't have. The WS at this time is an important fall back for MFC, however, to me The Board of Directors carry a heavy burden. This is an important milestone in the Club's history and if Mr Hutchinson is relinquishing his tenure early, I hope the appropriate planning is nailed to the structure of the old place. This is no time for the well meaning running Motherwell Football Club and I hope the present custodians have the business acumen to carry this off. Time will answer these questions in full. COYW!

Probably a half pint of shandy. Have to say, these two are bad examples when talking about Scottish drinking culture! Both probably model professionals! However, generally, the drinking culture is holding back Scottish football.
-
This is one of the reasons Scottish football has never progressed. European players have a totally different philosophy regarding drinking and diet. However as a Scot abroad, I'm hypocritical as my drinking habits haven't changed. Many Swiss look at the Scots contingency out here as fun guys but heavy drinkers. Hope Faddy and Skippy had a good night out
