My first game was in '74, so I'll always have great memories of the 'sash' strip. It was 10 years before I saw a Motherwell team wearing a top with the hoop/band on it. The hoop may be considered our traditional strip, but it's only been used in just over half of our 129 year history...68 to 61 or thereabouts.

Sevco wearing a black sash? How apt, considering their hammering last week.

Feruz played a grand total of 16 minutes for Blackpool and they're shipping him back to Chelsea because of his attitude. He was also sent back from a loan in Greece, then mumped about a move to Cardiff cos he didn't fancy the club, changed his mind and was knocked back when they had a look at him. Seems to have got into a bit of bother off the field too (not that he spends much time on it). Should be good in the air right enough, with a head that size.

While Baraclough is certainly not a keeper...

The SPFL's in there like a tramp eating chips whenever that game's uploaded, unfortunately.

I'll be happy if he doesn't stick him in at right back.

From the best 2 Motherwell teams I've had the pleasure of watching, Graham/Pettigrew & Coyne/Arnott. I'd find it hard to choose between them.

Mibbe the players have been reading the table upside down. Probably while doing headstands as part of their yoga routine.

Said in his post match interview, hopefully hitting rock bottom will spark a response. If it doesn't, he's a goner. And if he isn't, we are.

Stuart McCall's success in the league, up until this season, was beyond what anyone could have realistically expected. But the question has to be asked, did he leave the squad in a better, or worse, state than when he took over. As for Ian Baraclough, I wish him all the best, but his head's on the block now. Black's gone, so his influence can't be blamed anymore and the manager has been allowed to bring in a load of players plus a new assistant. The club wasn't in a relegation or play-off spot when he got the job, even if it was obvious to everyone how poor we were. His brief could only have been to keep us in the league...If results don't pick up soon and we go down, there's no way he'll be given the chance to rebuild and bring us back up.

If the historical kit site's got it right, Patrick's top and socks would've been blue. 'Well's top was definitely claret with a large amber 'hoop'round the neck at this time, socks were apparently claret.

Read a great article a while back about Hughie Ferguson. Apparently, crowds turned up to see him depart Fir Park, many folk having been given a break from work to wave him off. The article also said Ferguson was desperate to return to 'Well after leaving Cardiff and heartbroken when it didn't happen. Clearly a player who should be in or around any all-time great Motherwell team, who's sadly been largely forgotten in the mists of time. There's some footage of him scoring a couple of goals at Fir Park against Partick Thistle (1920s) on YouTube.

Really sorry to hear this. A local guy, who was a stalwart of the 'Well side I grew up watching. Must've got his autograph a dozen times when I was a kid. Condolences to Peter's family and friends.

My first game was the '75 Semi Final v Airdrie, so I maybe look at this era through rose tinted specs, but anyone who saw them knows how good they were. I feel sorry for them sometimes when the '91 team is wheeled out for more praise...like the mid-nineties team they played great football over a couple of seasons, but seem to be largely forgotten about cause they didn't lift a trophy.

Aye, it certainly was. We were told she was his auntie and I've no reason to doubt it. Did you frequent wee Hughie's shop yourself Yabba?

Would've been 8 then, sat in the Main Stand with my dad. Next to us was a St Mirren fan with his wee boy. Talking away to us before kick off, no problem, but he got angrier and angrier as the boots flew in, ended up wanting to fight ma dad. I do remember havin a bit of a riddy about how hard/dirty we were that day, but Peter Millar's auntie worked in the shop just up the road from us, so I won't hear a bad word said about him...

This should take you to the St Mirren video. The goals from the cup game are about 42 mins in... http://www.blackandw...g-in-the-video/

A crowd of 20,561 saw Motherwell twice come from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with Rangers at Fir Park in this Scottish League Cup sectional match on 23rd August 1975. Rangers goalscorers were Sandy Jardine and Alex Miller, with Bobby Watson and Willie Pettigrew replying for the 'Well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyJENCLdOAo
