    1. it was the fact that in every interview gannon stated that the change in our fortunes was due the change in personnel completely ignoring that it was due to the change in formation. the guy is always happy to take credit for any success in the media but never puts any blame on himself. 2. show me another manager who has changed their team before the kickoff of the second half 58% of the time in league matches this season.
  2. shite thread = two hands in head our second half performance = ?????? hands in head?
  3. i'd have quinn in front of yassin as well. however the guy is doing doing exactly what he's instructed to do. i'm sure if gannon told him to stay back he'd do it. against driver and mcgeady the guy has shown he is a great defender. even today mulgrew couldn't punish us. there's no point in blaming him for charging up the park when that's what our manager is telling him to do.
  4. i don't remember saunders shooting?

since the st johnstone game gannon has been guilty of thinking he can effect the outcome of a game from the sideline. we turned things round in perth but gannon in the papers creditied it to the fact craigan and sutton were subbed off when it was clearly because of the change to 4-5-1 to 4-4-2. has anyone ever seen a manger so keen to make personnel or tactical changes before the second half starts? i watch a lot of football and i can't think of any other manager who is similar. we're paying the price of gannon thinking that he can have more effect on a match than the guys on the park.
  6. naw. we had at least 7 good chances to score today and blew them all apart from one. the only time we did score was barely a chance.
  7. he had an amazing game at parkhead.

first half great effort, after that we were fucked. if mcdonald hadn't been sent off i'd have put money on aberdeen winning. the consenus on here is that murphy is only effective when he plays in the middle because he can move away from defenders with his first touch while he's trapped when he's playing out wide. second half he's playing wide right. we start the second half with murphy and o'brien on the wings which means means we've got four out and out attackers versus 3 in the first half. aberdeen put us on the back foot and it was obvious we were going to buckle. we had half an hour to change the pattern of the game and put in either jennings or lasley to shore things up but gannon obviously didn't seemed concerned by the warning signs and they scored via their pressure.
  9. i thought he had a good game. if you're judging him you have to consider the fact that gannon instructs him to get forward and that aberdeen concentrate their attacks through mulgrew. did we concede a goal down our right? naw. what's the problem then?
  10. i think if we offer him a contract for next season and he refuses it we'll be due some compensation.

i don't agree that mcghee ignored the young players. mchugh, saunders, hutchison and slane were all given there debuts by mcghee when they were 18 or under which suggest that he recognised that they had a lot of promise. murphy and darren smith featured a fair bit and archdeacon and page got contract extensions. forbes actually played in a preseason game at ayr in 2007 which must have meant mcghee was willing to look at him. the loan spell at dumbarton was meant to have improved the physical side of his game and helped him get used to playing at a higher tempo. considering that is still his achilles heel i doubt he was anywhere near spl ready a year ago.
  13. was watching a bit of scotland u19 versus germany there not sure which of our boys were playing though as the stream wasn't the best. it was nothing each after an hour, the only scotland players i recognised were fleck and thompson from hearts. the boy streaming it changed the channel on his telly so that's the end of that. hopefully get a report on the sfa website later on.

it's quite funny how he's stated a few times he left motherwell because he wasn't up for the rebuliding job but if anything he has a similar and probably bigger task on his hands at aberdeen. obviously anyone would be frustrated about the team being dismantled but he fucked it up himself in the summer of 2008 when he wasted our budget on malcolm who was a disaster, o'brien who wasn't ready for the spl, sutton who is mediocre and klimpl who was injured for three months. 2 or 3 good signings that summer would have made a huge difference.

i'd definitely have yassin in the team if he's fit. he did a great job on driver and mcgeady and when he's actually in position he's a very solid defender. the only time he and humphrey have really operated in tandem was at celtic park and i thought they showed signs of being a good partnership. forbes hasn't played well for a while now and should definitely drop out. i'd also have murphy in for sutton to give us a bit more variety up front as ifill and considine won't like jamie running at then with the ball. ruddy yassin saunders reynolds hammell humph coke hateley o'brien murphy lukas hutchison has been impressive when he's played but saunders has played against harder teams and shone so i think he should keep his place. the vital thing for me is having stevie hammell fit, without him we've struggled to play the ball out of defence.
  16. 4-5-1 is okay if you have the right players. big lukas looks like he could do the job as the lone striker but our problem is we don't have any midfielders in the central 3 who are naturally going to get up and support the striker. add in the fact that neither o'brien or humprey are goal scorers and that murphy is ineffective played out wide then it has to be 4-4-2 until we've got the players who can make a 4-5-1 work. by my rough count in the spl we've played 4-5-1 for 605 minutes and scored 4 goals compared to playing 4-4-2 for 385 minutes and scoring ten goals (9 with jamie murphy on the park). it's clear we're much more likely to score with two strikers even if you discount the games against the old firm. we also haven't scored from open play with the 4-5-1 at all. defensively we've lost 6 goals with 4-5-1 and 5 with 4-4-2. so with 4-4-2 we're outscoring the opposition 2:1 and with 4-5-1 we're being outscored 2:3. it's pretty clear what we should be playing most of the time, obviously away against the old firm and for closing out games 4-5-1 has it's place but against the rest of the teams in the league we have nothing to fear and should go for it.
  17. he got dropped after they got pumped 5-0 off rangers at the start of november.
  18. i think he's a good player and he deserves his place in the team at the moment. i just don't think it'll be that hard to replace an extremely attack minded winger who has scored one (deflected) goal in near enough 50 appearances and very rarely crosses the ball especially when we have paul slane ready to step up soon.
  19. definitely, him and juke up front for the sheep with JOB and humph on the wings and get right at them.
  20. if o'brien manages to score or cross for a goal this season i might be worried about him leaving. i'd have him in the team every week just now but his end product is non existent and right now he's only effective in drawing fouls off stupid defenders.
  21. fraser couldn't even lock down a place in the ict team last season. ryan esson was keeping him out the side. it's not about whether he's good enough to be a sub goalie, ruddy isn't a realistic long term player for us and will either be gone in january or the summer.
  22. what's the stevediggle test? if you meant the onthefringes test my barnet bars me from even entering the exam hall.
  23. i started the thread because i thought that the reason he was dingying the press was because his comments and the coverage generated by them by had went down badly within the squad. as jim says. “Naturally enough when you’re a manager, some players don’t always come and speak to you personally to understand your thinking or what is going through your mind so when they pick up an article like that then obviously it may worry them." which i would say means i wasn't a million miles away. if he actually was suprised and disapointed that scottish football journalists jumped on the comments he made and hyped them up then he's a lot more naive than i imagined. i don't think anyone on here would have been suprised by the effects those comments had, the scottish media are as nothing if not predictable (and c***s)
  24. exactly, every man for themselves.
