i heard that his dad had been trying to use his contacts to get him trials at various spl clubs. accies might have been the only team that took him on a proper trial but he was also meant to have been offered to st mirren and killie as well. it's a good bit of business from gannon but it's comparable to butcher signing mcdonald. another club stupidly rejected him and we took advantage when he was handed to us on a plate. the coke signing was impressive as i doubt any other spl boss had even heard of him and he's a standout, if gannon can unearth a few more gems like giles from nowhere then we can start talking about his prowess in transfer market.

right, this season craigan has been our motm against aberdeen and falkirk and put in good performances against killie and steaua. he's also played very well in three games for NI against poland, czech republic and slovakia. i don't get where the idea that he's finished comes from, end of august and september he's getting motms and doing well in world cup qualifiers, one bad game in the cup in october and he's finished? i don't see any of the other four leaving either, mainly because no will give them as good contracts as the ones they have and they'll have a chance of getting better deals in the summer when clubs have more room in their budgets. they might also want to play their way back in at fir park. gannon's ability in the transfer market still has a big question mark beside it. out of his four permanent signings two have been great and two have had no impact. big giles was a great find but he's out of contract at the end of the season and hateley's been a great signing but gannon didn't unearth him, we're the 3rd or 4th spl club he came to on trial. the loan signings have been great but are all out with our budget long term.

who's going to leave? surely the guys who aren't playing aren't going to get better contract offers than the ones they got from us when they were first team spl players. if we do bring in more players i'd like us to get a few scottish guys. only three scots in the XI on saturday was a poor show.

jamie murphy has been called up for the u21 game against azjerbijan but forbes has been dropped out the squad. mchugh, meechan and saunders are all in the u19s for a friendly against germany but pollock has dropped out the squad which is strange as he got on in their last two wins. forbes being left out the u21s is strange as the midfield were poor in the last u21 game and he should have been worth at least a place in the squad. saunders should be in the u21s as well as most of the defenders in the squad have barely played this season or in one case at all ever. billy stark is a fanny. let's hope ross sticks in a couple at the weekend to get it up him.

clarky's late winner against killie is the best for me. it was the first game back at fir park after phil died and he popped up with a last minute winner. the full team came over to the corner of the east and it was bedlam with people sprinting down the stairs. i remember ending up about 25 seats away from where i started when brannan scored his screamer against hearts in the scottish cup. don goodman's late winner at tannadice when we were making a late surge for europe about ten years ago. i got covered in twaddle's sweat which was a bit disgusting. i got cracked off a polis for going through the gate at the very end of the east stand to celebrate with tommy coyne after he crossed the ball over to falconer to score a diving header against the h**s. big boab's freekick up at ict, sent every body mental as well. faddy's semi final goal against the h**s was another favourite.

good showing today. you wouldn't think the team who played the first half day were the same team as last week. we must have played more long balls in the first half than we've played for the last five games combined and we benefited from mixing it up. the back four were great today, hutchison and saunders have massive potential. great goal from forbes but he's a frustrating player, he doesn't always shine in general play but he's always worth his place in the team cause he can win matches.

a lot of good performances but i thought hutchison and coke stood out. i went for coke as i think his form will be vital to how we do this season.

you're right we've got no one in our team who's capable of mixing it with the more physical players in the spl. last season we won the fair play award but we still had guys like quinn, klimpl, lasley and even clarky in the team who could give it out when need be. i don't think it's necessarily due to our youth either, butcher had a young team in 2002/03 and they kicked fucked of anything that moved. hopefully it will. i think everyone knows we're a work in progress and i do believe we're onto to a good thing. my very first words in the thread are that i'm not bothered about getting beat, what does bother me is the way we played. gannon's choices were mystifying last night and if it was mcghee last season who did that or butcher or malpas folk would be flipping their lid. there's no possible justification for some of his decisions last night which is worrying. it'll be interesting to see how we go on saturday. he seems loath to start with a 4-4-2 even although we played our best football with it and he switches to it every time we need a goal.

trust me, considering we had been knocked out the cups twice at love street and lost two massive games at fir park in the league in recent years no one was expecting an easy time last night. you've hit the nail on the head with your second point though. we appear to put more emphasis on sticking to gannon's philosophy than actually trying to win games which is annoying. i don't think anyone really feels the players let us down as individuals last night, it's more a sense of frustration that we were less than the sum of our parts.

i sympathise with people who didn't get in last but it should be remembered that st mirren wanted the match to be all ticket and the only reason it wasn't was because well fans asked for it not to be. i agree that they should have made an overspill for well fans but the fact they didn't is probably down to the polis.
