it was a good season because we did much better than we should have done. we eventually finshed bottom but on paper we should have been down before march. we were in a relegation battle with dundee united who probably had a wage bill 10xs ours.

if mcghee will sign bob malcolm he'll sign anybody.
-
people are wanting him to be something he isn't. he's not a penalty box player and he isn't going to shoot from long range. he is excellent at passing, retaining the ball and enabling us to bring it up on the deck. it's one eyed to say the solution our problems is to get rid of hughes, the solution is/was to put better players around him who can create and will make forward runs. when was the last time we actually played four real midfielders? the guy has been playing with one hand tied behind his back. good seasons. first two davies seasons the first three with butcher first mcghee season mediocre/average third davies season this season poor malpas eric black

yanks have a strange sense of humour i don't see why it's always hughes' fault. there should be four men in midfield. he does what he does very well, he'd be a much better player with better players beside him ala darren fletcher.
-
in good seasons you don't go from joint third through 11 games then go bottom by xmas followed by nine unbeaten in the league then only 1 win in the last six relevant games. or three out of the last ten. we also played 6 cup games and only won one.

i meant players who hadn't made there debut previously (which i said in the original post) which discounts murphy and reynolds. i don't think the fact that i had saunders and mchugh down for one less appearance each invalidates my point. what's your opinion on our recent record of bringing through young players and the future of our squad considering who is likely to leave in the next year or so?
-
we've been poor and he's been roundly critisiced this season, why should he and leitch come out? i can remember people on here greeting because the malpas team didn't come out for a lap after the st mirren game (while there were season tickets lying on the park). we should save the lap of honours for good seasons. this season has been textbook mediocre.
-
probably. quinn seemed to be one of the few who cared about the result today and fair enough it was stupid booting the ball off the killie player but at least he cared. anyone who says they can't wait to see quinn leave is daft. he's an excellent right back and is likely to leave here for much more down south in the near future. quinn, clarky and reynolds get stick on here but when their contracts are up they won't have any problems getting moves for considerably more than we can pay.

i agree but today we played a formation with sutton, clarkson and sheridan all right up top that mcghee would never have played in a competitive game. the options are either try and win the game by putting out the best team or try and blood some players. today we did neither and it was typical of alot of mcghee's choices during his time at motherwell, he struggles to make the big decisions. as i've said think about the start of 11/12. we could very well need ten new players by then. he hasn't played any young player who has came through our youth system more than twice in the two years he has been here. in the long term things don't look very good at all.

last day of the season. meaningless game. we've already seen a few young players get a chance this season. mcghee has made comments about playing the kids. you'd expect us to try a few young guys out and see who sinks or swims. yet..... starting XI. klimpl, hughes and sheridan have all start even although they're not going to be here next season. fair enough maoros and steff have earned a final start at home and sheridan was our best player last week. only to fit everyone he wants in we end up with three guys up front doing the work of two and short in midfield. today was typical of his indecision, either play the form players or the players who are staying. don't try and fit clarky, sutton and sheridan in at the expense of any shape. first sub. jamie murphy was stripped for a good 7 minutes before coming on but was left standing in the dugout. what the fuck were we waiting for? second sub. bob malcom????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? the guy has been overweight, overpaid and nowhere near the first team for five months yet he gets on today. we have las and fitzy who will be here next season and have never gave less than 100% but for some reason bob who wasn't considered for a start against st mirren or ICT gets on. what the fuck? it's almost as if mcghee put him on as some kind of reward. i've got no personal grievance against malcolm but he didn't deserve to get anywhere near the game today. third sub. mcgarry. again nothing against mcgarry but since we didn't put out a team to win the game and we know exaclty what mcgarry gives us what was the point? and why so late, surely he had seen enough of the guys who were playing. since mcghee came to the club he hasn't played any player from our youth system who had already made their debut more than twice. if you ask yourself who that featured today will probaly still be here at the start of season 11-12 you'd probably end up with craigan and hammell and maybe mclean and o'brien. things don't look very good in the long term. edit - this was typed in a storm of fury. think i've sorted the typos now.

the attitude of the stewards and police today was a complete joke. the killie fans came up in good spirits and wanting to have a good time, our stewards and the police officers at the game tried their hardest to make sure sure that couldn't happen. was there any chance of fans fighting or causing bother today? No. has there ever been trouble at a 'well - killie game at fir park in the last 15 years? No. has there ever been a serious incident caused in the history of football by an inflatable crocodile? No. we were terible hosts today and i feel embarassed. MFC as always will point to guidelines and safety certificates but we had congos and inflatables at easter road last may and hibs didn't suffer any reprocussions. either, MFC, the company who run the stewards or the police commander has to get a grip and treat fans correctly. watching games at fir park isn't a dangerous activity and the behaviour of the police and stewards that we have seen in the last couple of years is just a pathetic attempt to exert control over people who are at the will of their influence.

it couldn't have worked out any better, being able to see their pain up close, while grabbing and shaking them and telling them exactly what we thought of them. best day ever. i also think things would have kicked off in the east if we hadn't of scored . it was great to see stewards having to wade into the aisles to rescue some daft tim who celebrated sutton's goal. hopefully dundee united aren't afraid to stand up the h*n invaders. edit - H_U_N

i think the point is not that you should wait til kids are 16 to sign them up and more that you should wait til they're a bit older before you put articles about them being wonderkids in the local paper. this boy might make it or he might not but this kind of article isn't going to help him.

i don't disagree, all i'm saying is that you won't see the same people who moan about the split moaning about the playoffs in england or in scotland. mainly because the the playoffs in england were promoted as a good thing by their positive media while up here the likes of traynor, waddell and leckie dominate too many forms of media and love using it to bash the spl, the sfa and anything new that is introduced.
-
your talking about losing eight league fixtures from the calendar and all the income they create. cut games by a fifth and season tickets and tv deals have to come down by a fifth. early league cup games now aren't as attractive as league games and when you consider that a fair few of them might be dead rubbers it's unlikely to make up the shortfall, or be as interesting for the fans. i also don't think it's a good idea to expand beyond 12 teams. it'd create too many meaningless games and i don't think there is enough strong teams, there might be 16 decent clubs but there definitely isn't 19 which is the least you'd need. if you look at the spl website there is big line through the middle of the table. anyway everybody knows the criteria it's just that some people are too pig headed to accept it.
-
aye but the reality is none of them are going to sign new deals with the club because other clubs will be offering them more. the fact is apart from jamie murphy we have done nothing to strengthen our squad through our youth system in the last two years and we might well end up paying the price for it.
-
it's that simple. i don't think your retarded so your clearly just being stubborn. imo having the correct amount of fixtures and teams for a competitive league is much more important a appeasing a few people who can't handle the fact that the 7th team will probably have more points than the 6th just because they see themself as some kind of traditionalists.
-
but then you'd either play 30 or 45 or 60 league games. so cross that one off.
-
i don't see the problem with this, it's not difficult to understand at all. nobody is going to moan if burnley get promoted even although sheffield united finished with more points. if people can accept the playoffs they should accpet the split. and it's no use saying have a regular season unless you can suggest a better system.
-
he was released by derby county cause he drove himself home pished from QPR. he might have been a free agent but i'd guess we've spunked about £200K on the fat bastard.
-
that doesn't bode well for us considering that the only young players mcghee seems willing to bring in are 17 and 18 - saunders, hutchison, mchugh and slane - and it's not going to be good for either us or them to rely on them too much. apart from jamie murphy we don't have any players in the first team squad aged 19, 20 or 21 which isn't good at all. if you assume that quinn, clarky and reynolds are on their last contracts at the club and that buzz, hughes, klimpl and mclean are leaving we could very well be up shit creek for the next few years.

Game of the season: the one nil win at hibs in september. just because i always like winning in edinburgh as it's always a good day out. Goal of the season: bob malcolm at ICT. great free kick and mental celebrations in the stand. Player of the season: clarky by a mile, his general play has been superb this season. special mention for buzz who has been excellent as well. Best moment: the penalty save in nancy Worst Moment: seeing the starting line up in nancy and knowing exactly what was coming (being unable to keep the ball or have any attacking play) Suprise of the year: how many times i've thought i can't believe fitzy isn't playing. Worst player of the year: not going to say bob malcolm because he has only lived down to expectations. so for me it's john sutton, a total milestone round the neck of the team when he's on the park and the benefits of not having him playing have been apparent in the last two away games. Young player of the year: no one. o'brien can't get it cause he was gash in 2008, jamie hasn't featured enough and reynolds has dropped off a bit. as i've said before there is a worryingly big gap in our production of young players from 22 year old reynolds to the 17/18 year olds we've seen over the last couple of weeks. jamie murphy is the only player to get any shot at the first team from all the players we've had born in '88, '89 and '90. Overall: it's been a strange season for me. i went away travelling the day after porter got his hat trick against ICT and when i came back the first game was the defeat against hearts which ended the unbeaten run. overall i think we've underachieved for a few reasons but also that we'll always have nancy!
-
i'd definitely keep him but i'm not sure he's as complete a player as some are making out. a lot of the time he looks completely comfortable and strolling it during games then is slack in his marking in the box and costs us. hearts' first goal in march and aberdeen's equaliser at fir park recently are examples of that. he also cost us a few goals through slack marking in the top six last season.

are those odds not to trick people into thinking "53 is a high number, those odds are too long i'll stick a few bob (probably a score) on it." it's really 2.65 to 1 which seems about right, they could have easily made it 5/2 or 11/4.

just as long as soley and mamman aren't mentioned. anyone know what happened to the two african world beaters?
