Remember, The Well Shop is the only place to buy OFFICIAL merchandise for the Cup Final. Buying from street traders gives no quality guarantee and does not benefit the club in any way. We expect traders to come out in force over the next few weeks and whilst they are not doing anything wrong unless infringing copyright, we feel its best to let you know the facts.

Awp they should be run out of town, I hate these street traders there stuff are substandard and people look at it as a reflection on the club. Hate seeing them outside hampden too

Given that there will be a shop unit selling tickets would that not also be a good opportunity to sell merchandise ?

I'm sure Allan Provan would split the rent !

Liking quite alot of the merchandise for the final. Think I will be in before the Rangers game to purchase some. Will be sure to be fully bathed in claret and amber for the final.

Surely if any street trader is selling flags or scarves with the club badge they can be charged and the stock confiscated. Or is it not as simple as that?

Club Badge, no doubt. However, if all they are selling are claret and amber scarves/shirts/hats etc. with "Motherwell" "Steelmen" "'Well" etc. then I imagine it is more problematic.

Then why does the club not do something to stop this? This is easy money that the club should be profiting from not some illegal street trader.

Its something that we require the help of police and trading standards who we work closely with. Its hard to spot all these guys sometimes until its too late. At Hampden the police have so much more to do than look for fake merchandise so it drops down the priority list sometimes.

Locally the Police are first class and have been really helpful in these areas and others.

If any supporters see any street traders using club name or crests it would be great if they could let us know. We then pass the info to the Police and Trading Standards and hope that they can act quicky enough. These guys rely on apathy and the fact that they will probably shift enough gear before any action is taken.

The best and most effective action we can take is to let the fans know that these guys have no intersest in MFC or in the town itself. They will pick up a street traders license for whichever area is appropriate for a Cup Final. They will pitch up for a couple of weeks and depart with their cash. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this and its perfectlly legal (unless breaching copyright) it brings zero benefit to our town and to the Club itself. We can never stop our fans buying cheap merchandise with no quality guarantee and its everyones right to choose but we can arm everyone with the correct information so they can make an informed choice.

Cheers

AWP

The "no quality gaurantee" is a point that is brought up regularly, but is far from valid. Sure there are a few who bring along inferior merchandise, one elderly woman who pitched up at Ibrox and Parkhead in the late '70's early '80's did hers on a home knitting machine and they were about as thick as Eddie Shoestrings tie, but the majority of the traders source their material from the same places as the club shops. With fewer overheads these guys can afford to charge less than the shops. MFC should ask the local council for an exclusion zone around the ground to protect their trade.

The point I was making was about the guarantee. We will still be around should there be a quality issue and we can deal with that for the supporters whereas the street trader will have scarpered with your cash in his hipper never to be seen again. :)
