Hi Folks

I wrote on the old site a few months ago about a trek in which myself and 11 other friends and former team mates of phil's were embarking on in May in his memory.

With only a week and a half to go I thought I would give fellow well fans a wee update on our challenge and our fundraising.

The idea to do something in phil's memory came about through casual conversation between some of the guys, and in a very short space of time we found ourselfs registering to take on the challenge of climbing cotopaxi, one of the highest active volcanoes in the world. Prior to taking on the big challenge of cotopaxi itself which stands approx 19000ft high we embark on warming up with 4 other active volcanoes standing on average approx 4,000ft high each, no easy task but it is one in which we hope will help us raise £100,000 for the British Heart foundation .

We have held various fundraisers to date and I am delighted to report that we have raised nearly £50,000 on our just giving page with further donations now coming in taking us to just over £70,000 .

The cotopaxi 12 have been very greatfully supported by past and present motherwell playing staff, back room team and by Leeanne dempster and her team at the club and we would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all fans and staff at Motherwell FC for their continued support.

We have been been very fortunate to have had great support in attendance at our events such as the tribute to phil dinner at the thistle hotel in march and our question of sport evening in January and have quite a few more ideas for events scheduled for the rest of the year which we will keep all well fans in the loop about in the hope of smashing the £100,000 target.

The SFA have also been supportive in showing initial support for our cause at the cup final with bucket collections taking place around the ground prior to kick off. Personally speaking I would love for the final to be known as the Phil O donnell final just like the cooper final a few years ago, a sentiment i seen at the weekend which was shared by Ally Maxwell. Personally speaking as a well fan I am gutted to be missing the final due to being halfway up a volcano but it is an honour and a priviledge to be doing it in phils memory.

I wanted to take the time to update you all on how our efforts were progressing and in the hope that you will dig deep come cup final day for the collection buckets with all funds raised going direct to the British Heart Foundation.

We have also set up some simple ways of supporting us and in sponsoring our trekkers which include ex players willie kinniburgh and Jim paterson at www.justgiving.com/tributetophil .

We have also set up a text donate service, by texting phil to 70007 you will be donating £3 to the target and every penny is greatly appreciated by us all.

For more details on the trek, who is involved and how our fundraising is progressing please visit www.tributetophil.com

In the meantime thanks for reading, and here's hoping I have another reason to celebrate coming down cotopaxi with a well win on the 21st May.

mon the well!!!!!!!!!!!
