Law

With the introduction of Law, i believe this could be the link we have been missing for a number of seasons, not only have we got the two work horses in the middle of the park, now getting forward in support, we have the creativity sadly missed in last seasons efforts. Although last season was a great effort, i think with the addition of Law and Higdon we are a much stronger team, we offer pace going forward, a decent hold up man in Higdon, with the ever running back up of Jennings and the free scoring Lasley. Law is showing signs of linking well with Murphy and Hammy down the left, Laws ability to create is what we have wanted, now he is here, we will see the best of Murphy, Humphrey, Higdon, Hammy,Lasley and Jennoe, i feel it a good season ahead.

Goals from midfield will be the key, id like to see 10 each from Humphrey and Law, with the front two getting at least 15- 20 goals.

Cant wait.

lol, think you might be getting a wee bit carried away there. don't think Humphrey will get passed 5 goals never mind double figures, same with Law. Maybe get 10 from Jamie but hopefully get that from Higdon as he is the strikeforce..!!

15-20 goals from the team outside the strikeforce as we'll be doing well. We're already at 2 after one league game. More than possible - especially with Hammell looking to get into the box more often with a goal, striking the post and a good stop by the keeper in the last two games from him.

Im not to sure you know, ok ill give you between 5 and 10 goals, each Law and Humphrey, does that sound better, the main point would be that with Law i believe that we will deffo score more goals, hopefully Murphy will continue at this rate, hope he does not do a Forbes from last season, and not score again all season after a cracking start!

You are talking 50 goals between Law, Humphrey, Murphy and Higdon. Not gonna be close to happening. Not sure about other seasons but I think when we finished 3rd we scored 50 that season (and let in the same amount if memory serves). Have we been scoring that many of late in the league? Not sure his feasible it is

It can be perfectly possible for us to score 50 goals. Saying that in the last 5 years we have only hit 50 plus twice.

2010/11 - 40 - 6th - Brown/McCall

2009/10 - 52 - 5th - Gannon/Brown

2008/09 - 46 - 7th - McGhee

2007/08 - 50 - 3rd - McGhee

2006/07 - 41 - 10th - Malpas

I'd be hoping for 5+ goals out of our defenders as well this season. Hanmell has one already and Saunders and Hutchinson are threats at set pieces. And Tom Hateley scores a free kick once every 40 games or so. If Law, Jennings, Lasley and Humphrey can muster 15 between them, then you're looking for Murphy and Higdon to supply around 30.

50 is doable. Not saying we'll do it, but it is possible..

I'll eat my words then - still, I reckon 40 goals from those 4 players alone is unlikely

we scored 55 goals in 2005/06 but conceded 61. if we can keep our habit of keeping clean sheets going then more goals are winners rather than counting for f all, getting beat 3-2 does nothing for you. since the start of 2009 we've had 33 clean sheets in 96 league games which is immense. i'd like to see us get 15 this season.

only having two recognised strikers is a bit of a worry though. whenever we've had a good season recently it's because we've had 3 strikers in double figures.

2010/11 - sutton, murphy, blackman

2009/10 - sutton, murphy, jutkiewicz

2008/09 - porter, clarkson, sutton

2007/08 - porter, clarkson, mccormack

2006/07 - mcdonald, foran

2005/06 - mcdonald, hamilton, foran

i don't think we can depend on law, humphrey, jenno or las to chip in with too many and it's a lot to ask of mchugh or smith. i still hope to see us add another striker (or two if jamie goes)

For the team with the most goals conceded in the history of the SPL, that is an phenomenal stat (although only 4 clubs have scored more)...

annoyingly, Maurice malpas got more goals than brown and mccall last season, to me that shows how different every campaign is. I think we could easily get 40-55 goals this season. if we play like hell against bottom six opposition and keep clean sheets then we'll have a successful season.

I'd like to check this fact myself to see if it's true because part of me doesn't believe it but if it is true then that just shows you how important it is to have lots of players chipping in with 2 or 3 goals each because that season only Foran and McDonald scored more than that in the league (7 and 15).

EDIT - OK seems to be true but in the Malpas season we scored 7 penalties and had 1 OG. In the Brown/McCall season we scored 5 penalties and had 2 OGs. So Malpas didn't scored more goals in open play!

Law getting 10 is a possibility. He gets into the right places but for me the key to his game so far has been in allowing space for other players to get chances. Hammell had two good chances against ICT and scored one.

Not sure the Humph will get 10 goals, but again he will create chances for other players to score - this was shown against Leeds and ICT.

Think it would be more realistic to say that the midfield might get about 15 between them all and hopefully Murphy and Higdon can provide the rest.

Humphrey is terrible in front of goal, almost the first thing he ever did in a Motherwell shirt was balloon a good chance over the bar. He did score a good one last season but I think that was the law of averages taking effect. Can't see him getting more than 3.

Nicky Law has hardly been proficient in his career so you would have to say you can't see him getting any more than say 5, and that's if he has his best season ever.

Higdon and Murphy both have potentially 10 - 15 goals in them but I don't see both of them getting 15, I'd expect one around 15 and the other to get around 10.

So in our front four I'd say we have about roughly about 30-35 goals which would mean we would have to get 15-20 goals from elsewhere which is a big ask.

You'd really be asking someone who hadn't previously scored many goals to get 6 or 7 and I don't see anyone doing that.

Here we go again, try being positive about the chances of scoring goals not negative, If your terrible in front of goal you dont score goals end of chat, Law and Humphrey have the ability to score goals, maybe not as many as i want but they have the ability to score goals.

Lets just stick to the positive points of our players not the OLD stats, onwards and upwards Ya Bezzer, not doom and gloom.

POSITIVE please Ya Bezzer!

^ Theres a difference in being positive and being a fantacist!

Law - no idea how many goals he will get. Hopefully 5+.

Humphrey - Rank rotten infront of goal but you never know 3-5.

Lasley - Based on previous experience he might get another 2 this season.

Jenno - 3?

Outside of that and our strikers, the only real goal threat we have is Hutchy. Saying that, I would like to see Randolph on pens!

lasley - 15 goals in around 300 career games

hammell - 3 goals for us in 386 games

hateley - 4 goals in 94 games. none from open play

jenno - 3 goals in 77 games for us. all headers

humphrey - 5 goals in 170 odd senior appearances

law - 12 goals in 162 appearances

if we get 15 out of the six of them we'll be doing well. we need another striker.

Those stats say nothing of this current side. What Law has done at other clubs, or what Hammell or Lasley did in previous seasons means nothing. It is easy to see that Hammell has now been given permission to go forward (into the box) more often now for example, which will lead to more chances to score. Law has played one game for this current side, means nothing what he did or didn't do at Rotherham.
