BBC Story! Police investigating alleged betting irregularities have dropped their case against Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings. Jennings was one of nine men arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud over bets placed on a game between Motherwell and Hearts in 2010. Jennings, who had already been booked, was shown a straight red card for foul and abusive language aimed at referee Stevie O'Reilly in the 2-1 defeat. He had denied any wrongdoing. Jennings's solicitor Nick Melville told BBC Scotland: "We've received information from Merseyside Police today that in relation to Mr Jennings there'll be no further action. "Mr Jennings stated from the outset that he's had no involvement whatsoever with any criminal activity and this vindicates his stance throughout." sinjy
They should apologise because the SFA wanted us not to pick him until the matter was resolved. Suspect he will be off in the summer now that he is in the clear. Championship or League 1 club will offer much more than we can. So in one sense great news but on another, very sad as in my opinion he is our best player and would love to see him sign on for another year. Well_Jaggy
Apologise for what? They didn't accuse him of anything. They did ask that we didn't play him until it was all sorted out. that suggests to me that they thought there may be something in it. Just as well we didn't agree to that! steelboy
the main outcome of this is that rooney is banned for england's first two euro 2012 games. all's well that ends well .
