decorator
We've had some top quality full backs at Fir Park over the years. And Derek Murray. rubie's dodgy perm
daver
In the time I've been watching Motherwell, I think we've had the best run of left backs outside the Old Firm. Joe Wark, (ok - maybe forget Derek Murray), Tom Boyd, Rab McKinnon, Stephen McMillan and Stevie Hammell - we've had some incredible contributions from our left backs most of whom have also been pretty attack-minded. As mentioned earlier, it says a lot about Hammell that we played McMillan in front of Hammell as the two of them were too good to leave one of them out. nethertonwellfan
I remember when McMillan and McCulloch left I was more gutted about McMillan leaving than I was McCulloch. It's a shame that injury cut his career short. Hammell stepped in to his shoes brilliantly and we never really missed McMillan. CoF
He came in as a 17 year old to replace McMillan who was out for some reason and he was absolutely brilliant. I can remember him even before then. Always looked a bit mental.

Stevie Hammell Remember McMillan very well but can't recall where he went after us & what injury he picked up. Any Info? In all Hammell's appearances has he reached double figures yet in goals scored? Sure he must have i remember a few cracking free kicks from him. Unless I'm mistaken I think McMillan went to Wigan, same as McCulloch.
Guest
My dad reckons the reason we've had so many good left backs is because of the slope. Running down hill makes it easier, or something. My dad is a bit of an odd 'un though.
CrosshillWell
It is a disgrace that Hammell does not have a shed full of caps when you look at some of the other players to have played frequently for Scotland.
DosserJoe
Too far. Hammell is a ledge but is in no-way international class. Havin a great season just now, but too late in his career to warrant call-ups
steelboy
Too far. Hammell is a ledge but is in no-way international class. Havin a great season just now, but too late in his career to warrant call-ups you see dicks like danny fox, stephen craney and lee wallace with caps. they're not any better than hammell. daver
Unfortunately there comes a level where you have to be a certain height as a defender or be absolutely outstanding at every other aspect to make up for it.
Wellfan1984
Congrats to Hammell. More appearances than anyone in the history of SPL
