Motherwell Fans Leaving Early - What's The Deal?

This has to be one of my pet hates at the moment.

Let's take today as an example. We're 2-1 down against Celtic with 80 minutes on the clock. The game is raging from end to end, with chances for both teams.

I'm trying to watch the game and already there is a steady stream of people asking me to move so they can get by and leave. There are people heading for the exits from other rows and sections as well.

Now, I can fully understand that some people buy into the whole "beat the traffic" myth, which basically shaves a negligible amount of time off your journey home, but when we're 2-1 down against Celtic with ten minutes still to go? Really?

I've found myself leaving early once this season, which was the game against St Johnstone when we lost 3-0. It was a lost cause and the players deserved nothing from the game, or from the fans.

When McCall came over to the east stand with a few of the players after todays game it would have been nice had he been clapping to less empty seats. The players put in a decent shift today and deserved some recognition in my opinion.

Anyway, it's a fucking real annoyance at times :wallbash:

love folk that mouth of about freedom of choice but question others

I love you too lad. I'm not actually questioning their freedom of choice, I'm simply asking why someone would pay twenty odd quid to go to a game then leave with ten minutes to go and the game still up for grabs?

It's a bit like going to see a movie then fucking off before you find out how it finishes.

Can't comment on that as such but the 'shared' facilities in the POD Stand is without question not working. A disaster waiting to happen. Slowly turning home fans away from sitting in their own Main Stand. The arrogance of their fans is astounding.....although by Lennon's reaction to their second goal today it is clear he is leading by example.

Each to their own really, not a fan of disappearing myself, but if one fan thinks that it.....I just think back to the Hibs game that many missed a rake of goals. We were holding our own till McCourt came on.....he scored & much as I didn't WANT to think it....there wasn't really much left in us.

Appreciate where you are coming from, but some people can just script it.

That must affect the players seeing some of the so called support leavin with 10% of the game left especially at only 2-1.It pisses me off havin stand up to let these folk past when im still engrossed in the game , but its up to them .If they want to go next time just tell them to get out the other way cause your still watchin the game

Personally I stay to the end of every game. I can remember some right humpings and late comebacks and I’m happy to say that I was there until the final whistle of every one. Some people have different reasons for leaving, these could range from work commitments to being fucked off at the way the team is playing. At the end of the day it is up to the individual to decide at what time he or she leaves during the match. You pay your money you take your choice.

I think the Club have to take some share of the blame here in that most people I was speaking to leaving early said it was to avoid having to walk down the road with all the Celtic fans coming out of the Phil O'Donnell stand.

I have a great amount of sympathy with that as where I stand in the disabled section, we have to listen to all the bile being shouted over our heads from the Celtic fans above us, in fact one guy was so bad we had to ask the polis to go up and have a word with him.(hope the anti sectarian polis captured him on their crackin wee cameras)

Today I witnessed a couple of situations that could have escalated into a serious incident with both sets of fans coming together in Fir Park St.

I know the club makes about 25k in ticket sales alone opening up that section so maybe we just have to put up with it in the knowledge that we have their dosh in our pocket.

I know that thats not the only reason fans leave early and it annoys the hell out of me to see the Celtic fans goading what was left of our support at the end of todays game but then again maybe its just a bit too much for some to have to listen to them celebrating the fact that they have "turned the corner" AGAIN

Santheman, there will be a monetary reason why the Celtic fans have such a heavy presence in ALL areas of the POD Stand and I appreciate that as well but I do think something will end up kicking off if they take a sore defeat. The irony is we are taking in more money from the OF but possibly less from our own fans. Might need to look into being relocated when they are next in town. I appreciate not everyone has the same option.

Not just either side. Mixed in the middle as well. Not shy at shouting their support either. I appreciate its difficult to prevent them buying tickets for the home section if the POD Stand on the day of the match when they are not wearing colours but they seem to be slowly taking over the whole stand. Home matches against the OF are starting to become not very enjoyable from where I'm sitting.

What are the solutions though? Put them back in Cooper? Hardly popular the last time. Relocate myself? Certainly...but does devalue the cost of the POD season ticket. Only take Celtic fans in away end? Loss of revenue leaves it not an option.

That pretty much leaves some fans just choosing to stay away and watch it at home or in their local.

normally I stay to the end no matter what but today I left at 80 minutes, not because the old scum green had just score but because I had to go to work

However I can understand why people want to leave early especially when we play the old scum as I've only ever experienced abuse form away fan when they pay us a visit

Also the standard of driving on the roads away from Fir Park drops when we play teams from Glasgow too (a lot more aggressive driving)

I would also add I could not help but notice the large police presence today which only happens with old scum games, drawn what ever conclusions you like from that fact
