nethertonwellfan
No dilemma for me, this might be the one and only time in my life that i can go to watch Motherwell away in the champions league, so i will be going, (my personal preference would be Kiev). Lets be honest we are likely to be Europa league contenders most years in the SPL so there will be lots of away trips there as we have seen in recent years. But this is the premier club football tournament in the world and for Motherwell to be in there is something i never thought i would see, so i will be there I'm like you but I have a funny feeling I will be relying on a club charter to some of the places. Price permitting of course.

Normal service will be resumed some time soon I'm afraid with the ugly sister top two and the 4 city clubs fighting it out between them for the European places (their budgets are much bigger), anyone who thinks we can maintain top six football for the next number of years is being very optimistic IMO and for that reason I'll be making every effort to make it to all of our away games if I can get the money together. Nancy & Odense were unforgettable, Tom Hateley's last minute free kick in Odense was worth the money for the trip by itself!

I've been told they are pretty fucked with the banks situation but the news here doesn't really talk much about the football in Greece. Why would i be having a laugh ?? i am assuming the city clubs you are referring to are Hearts / Hibs , Dundee untd and Aberdeen, although technically there are now 5 as Perth is now a city, so St Johnstone are in there as well. from those 5 only Hearts and Dundee untd are likely to be any good, Aberdeen and Hibs are dross with no money to spend to improve and St Johnstone without Sandaza and a few others will struggle next year. Apart from the 2 ugly sisters the next best 3 teams (in no particular order) are Dundee untd, Motherwell and Hearts and will probably be that way for a few seasons. As it stands in Scotland the top 4 get Europe, top 5 some years depending on Cup winners etc, so all i am saying is that Motherwell are good enough to compete for a top 5 finish. We wont be able to play football in that heat. I was there when Scotland played in the older stadium - people were fainting outside and the police came in during the first half to dish out water supplies it was that warm!!!!!!! Expensive to get there, although it is dirt cheap once you are there! For me it has to be Copenhagen - closest, safest! and best chance of getting through!!!! Hope your right and I'm wrong mate! But better wages generally means better players and Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Hearts & Hibs all, to my knowledge pay bigger wages that us, hence they are likely to recruit better players in the long run! Obviously we have managed to buck that trend in recent season, partly due to Jim Gannon's (and Stuart McCall's) shrewdness in the transfer market, which has been great, however I don't expect it to last :-( . St Johnstone medium to long term are more likely to join Killie and us IMO fighting it out for best of the rest. Anyway I'm hoping for Copenhagen, easiest to get to and likely to be the only team we have a chance of competing with (unless the Pana really are going to have to offload most of a team). tottenmfc
Just researching the important issues for the various destinations, so in order of cheapest beer it's: Kiev Istanbul Athens Copenhagen However, by my reckoning in order of probability of getting stabbed from highest to lowest: Istanbul Athens Kiev Copenhagen Not sure how accurate this is but basically I don't think there is a clear winner for me out of those destinations! Special aka
......................... To have it narrowed down to four teams, 50% I doubt I will go to, when we are nearly two months away from the draw.......I wasn't really expecting that to be honest. I can see how for other people who would go to any of the grounds that it is still exciting. Imo we shouldn't have a clue where or who we could get until the day of the draw. Agreed Finlay, I actually think it's farcical. To cal it a "Draw" is a joke. However, had a chat with a lifelong friend last night who has coaxed me round to his way of thinking:- Motherwell in the Champions League !!!!!!! What a place to be and there's 10 other SPL clubs wishing it was them. I made it to Cup Winners Cup, UEFA Cup and Europa League and this could be my one and only opportunity to complete the set. I've never seen this before and at 50 I'm hardly likey to see it again ................. and I want to draw my last breath knowing I WAS THERE. Not the greatest of options, and for one who overheats when the thermos tops 18degrees C, I better look out the factor 50

I wonder if Motherwell are top or bottom of the likeliest stabbing venue of the unseeded clubs I can see it now. Turkish fans worried about going to Motherwell.... In truth I would probably go to all destinations other than Instanbul. Spoke to a Man U fan this week who has been and said they could not pay him to go back Supporters bus was attacked and they were climbing in the windows. Apart from that all was ok People say Motherwell FC are inconsequential and would be a minor distraction...mibbes aye...mibbes no.....

Burn_Broomfield
APOP Death Squad converge in Amsterdam on the Monday and go from Schiphol via the Petroleum lounge on the Tuesday to where ever it may be. Ideally the Death Squad flag can be produced in Istanbul, as Decorater says, the local's reaction to that would be interesting... Athens, Istanbul Kiev or Copenhagen? Doesn't matter, we'll be there.

Uncle Rifle
Hello Motherwell fans Just a quick congratulations on your fine season, and a wish for good luck in europe. We in Odense haven't forgot what fine representatives for british football you all were, when you came to Odense to meet OB a couple of years ago. I had a great time drinking pints and talking football with you all before the match, and at Ryans Pub after the match. I've been keeping an eye on your progress in SPL since, and I'm glad to see you go to europe again. With a little more luck, you should be able to get into a group stage, if not in the CL, then in EL. We also haven't forgotten just how close you came to knocking us out. Good luck, especially if you happen to run into FC København, who are our rivals. Kind regards, Uncle Rifle, Odense Boldklub.
Special aka
Cheers Uncle ..................... appreciate the kind words of support. Think most of us are hoping for København, despite the price of beer. Does it have a Ryan's Bar
Uncle Rifle
It has quite a few british pubs, and they are all very expensive. About 4-5£ for a pint of Carlsberg. That, combined with the fact that FCK are a very strong team, makes me wish for you to draw an easier team.

Think Jim at Ryan's gave us a deal -- £4 for Tuborg so £4-£5 is fine by me, especially as its much cheaper and quicker to cross the North Sea than it is to cross most of Europe. For us there isn't an easier team, unless Fenerbache - Dinamo Kiev - Panathoniakos are shyte
