Sporting Integrity - Where Do We Draw The Line?

Was asked this on Thursday by a non football fan who's a bit confused (and bored) by all the carry on over rangers and I've yet to come up with a decent answer,

Why is it that if a club cheats as rangers did or try to bribe the ref/opponents, then it's wrong and everyone demands justice in the name of sporting integrity but if a player cheats on the park then it's only the fans of the effected club who demand justice. So why is it ok to cheat on the park?

For example, if a motherwell player dives to win a penalty which gets us through to the next round of the CL we would all be celebrating and would love the guy for it but if a club official was found to have bribed the ref we would be scandalised by his actions, both tried to gain an unfair advantage so what is the difference?

I would say that a player taking a split second decision to throw himself to the ground in the middle of a football match is hugely different from a premeditated, organised and thought out attempt to cheat through corruption.

I also don't agree that it's just the fans of effected clubs that make a deal of it. There have been plenty of footballers who have cheated and been completely hounded for it.

It's like discovering it's the fattest, noisiest, most boastful kid, the one with most money who has stolen all the curly-wurly's from your shop. And has done for years. Not the skinny kids who can't afford them.

And when caught instead of saying sorry, paying for all the curly-wurly wrappers that have been found their schoolbag and going to a different shop for a little while - they've tried to come into your shop as if nothing has happened, their maw and da have screamed in your face, threatened you with closure and told other customers your shop will go bust if you don't let fat kid back in to buy his curly-wurly's from you.

And then after standing your ground having your landlord insist that although you've said you aren't going to serve them there's nothing to stop the wee old dear who can't speak the language properly who sits at the counter that doesn't ever open serving them. And if you don't she'll have her big year old looking newspaper and black and white tv taken off her.

With regard to what your friend is asking in the context of the above it would be comparing our shoplifting kid's crimes with a 2 year old shoving a mucky sweet in their mouth that had fallen on the floor and been stood on by six people.

Or something ...

Got to disagree STUWELL, the answer is easy it's not ok to cheat on the field it's just harder to catch that but it is being addressed...............although in the usual fkd up way by scottish authorities through the guy ( sorry can't recall his title ) who can dish out punishments after the fact.

Also woudl like to point out the reaction of the fans on here after Ojamaa dived in one of the games............pretty much everyone was of the opinion that he best be told to stop that crap immediately as it is not the way we want to win games.
