Al B
Might as well have something obvious for people coming on to find out the draw. Home leg first. Discuss......
DC'd
Notable players that will be featuring: As well documented - Jean Alain Boumsong (ex Rangers and Newcastle) will return to FP. The Greek National Teams midfield pairing for the past decade in Katsouranis and Karagounis. Former Liverpool midfielder Sebastian Leto. And Greek European Championship and Champions League winner in Seitaridis. They are certainly the names that stick out the most. Despite Karagounis and Katsouranis' notable qualities and experience, there are no real stand out names to give us the fear, and their defeat to Odense last year must give us at least the slightest bit of hope. What was Aberdeen's results against them like a few years ago? I believe it was relatively narrow (IIRC)? Think that was back when the Group Stages were 5 teams and Aberdeen only played one leg against them in Athens?
Al B
They got done 3-0 in Athens. Lot of financial fuck-aboutery with Panathinaikos, players having to defer wages etc, and the club having to provide proof of radically streamlining their finances just to be able to play in this, so who knows what kind of shape we'll find them in. Also, am I not right in thinking the Greek season doesn't start til September?

decal
oft...."The start of the second half was delayed by 45 minutes as fans pelted police with Molotov cocktails, flares and missiles, and the game was subsequently abandoned altogether with nine minutes remaining with Olympiakos 1-0 ahead. Twenty police officers were injured and more than 50 arrests were made while three fire engines were called in to extinguish flames as hundreds of fans set alight sections of the stands. Three of those arrested were charged with possession of explosives, police said."

Lobey_Dosser
Without having great knowledge of the current Panathanikos team, snippets would suggest that we could possibly have a right good go at them with last seasons starting XI. If we can get Hutchison fit and the nod from Sky to fund replacements for Clancy/Jennings then who knows what is possible. Hopefully we have scope to do ourselves justice at FP and then see what happens in Athens. While the Greek climate is a major disadvantage I'm pleased to be playing a team that hasn't kicked off their league campaign. Moreover, a couple of their players put in a shift at the Euros and may not be at their sharpest. Winning this tie would set us up for years.

DC'd
Early sweepstake on how many fouls Higdon concedes over two legs? Normally a style that European ref's have Zero-Tolerance over. Look how harshly Crouch, Carroll, Zigic etc are punished in Europe for just being in the vicinity of an opposing Defender.
Martin
This isn't a Higgy bash, but does anyone think he's just too slow for this type of game? I'd much rather see Ojamaa and Murphy up front. Tin hat on.

Ya Bezzer!
ALthough it's not the strongest Panathinaikos side they have ever had the chances are they would be good a bet to win the Scottish Premier League. The side is mainly made up of internationals, albeit not glamourous star names, and they have a lot of experience. Even at 35 Giorgos Karagounis is the kind of quality that we can't even approach. If we win at Fir Park it will surely rank among our greatest ever results. Now I just have to try and get the night off work!

I'd much rather see Ojamaa and Murphy up front. Tin hat on. European football is generally considered to be slower than the kick and rush stuff that is employed in Scotland, so it probably won't hinder Higdon as much as some folk are hoping.... steelboy
if higdon plays it'll most likely be a repeat of john sutton in nancy ie completely ineffective. we'll be playing on the counter so i'd have henrik up front with humph and murphy on the wings. underboyleheating
I thought the Greek economy was fucked? Panathinaikos are making more signings than an autograph hunter at a Sci-Fi convention.
