Wellfan1984
Didn't seen anything on the Official... The Denis Law Soccer Tournament 2012 was brought to a close this afternoon with the under 16s final at the Chris Anderson Stadium, between Motherwell and Dundee. In a cagey, tight affair, it took both teams a while to get going. The only half chance in the opening stages came when the ball fell to Dundee’s Lee Cameron in the box, but the snatched at the chance and the keeper made an easy save. The Dees had another chance in the 20th minute, when Christopher Snee’s long range effort had the keeper scrambling, but drifted wide. It was Motherwell though who took the lead in the 25th minute. Nick Caddens broke away down the left, fought off a defender as he burst into the box, and fired home past Cameron Johnstone in between the sticks. On the half-hour mark, Motherwell’s Steven Higgins raced through one-on-one, but Johnstone was off his line like lightening to smother the ball at Higgins’ feet. Three minutes later they were in again when a neat one-two back-heel played in Daniel McDonald, but once again Johnstone made the save to keep the score at 1-0. Steven Higgins drilled a shot from range just the wrong side of the post after 34 minutes. Three minutes later a Dundee free kick swung into the box caused chaos as the keeper’s punch failed to clear the danger. The ball pinged around like in a pinball machine, but eventually Nick Caddens cleared off the line. Half Time: Motherwell FC Under 16s 1-0 Dundee FC Under 16s Much like the first, the second half took a while to get going, although Dylan Mackin did test the Dundee keeper with a header on 47 minutes. Motherwell doubled their lead just before the hour mark. The pacey Higgins was sent through one-on-one, and kept his composure to coolly slot home past the keeper. With ten minutes to go Christopher Snee’s effort from 25 yards had the Well keeper worried, but it flashed wide. Two minutes later Motherwell made it safe by adding a third. Dylan Mackin was left with a tap in after the keeper was unable to hold on to a shot from Higgins. Commiserations then to Dundee, who will be gutted to have fallen at the final hurdle, although they can feel proud of their impressive performances all week in getting to the final. But congratulations to Motherwell for what was an emphatic and deserved victory, not just on the day but in the tournament as a whole. Full Time: Motherwell FC Under 16s 3-0 Dundee FC Under 16s Congrats to the young ones in this. Supposedly, Higgins and Neill were excellent in the semi final while left back Wotherspoon had a very good final!
