prideoflanarkshire
Just read that nick Blackman has moved from Sheffield united to reading for £1m plus. Was decent for us, poor for the sheep, and ok for the blades but am shocked at the £1m price tag. Can't believe he's a premier league player
StipeIsGod
He'll be a premier league player for 6 months.
steelboy
blackman is built like a tank and has pace which is half the battle down there and is a decent finisher. i'd rather pay £1.2m for him than £6m for hooper. i think english clubs will look to the lower leagues more given the success of lambert, le fondre and holt as strikers. I noticed at the Everton friendly, almost every one of them looks like an athlete, 6ft plus athletes at that!

Did Leighton Baines have his platforms on that day?!! I think Blackman is well suited to the championship, so it's gonna be a tall order for the lad jumping from league 1 to EPL. Best of luck to him. Andy_P
He had a pretty successful time with us. Ten before the turn of the year is generally a healthy return for a Motherwell striker. I wouldn't say he fully endeared himself to Motherwell fans the way Ruddy and Jutkiewicz perhaps did - although ofcourse he was only here for six months - so whilst its interesting watching how his career goes, I don't hold quite the same desire for him to succeed as perhaps the aforementioned duo. But let's take what we can from it. When we go looking at youngsters from England we should point to the examples of Ruddy, Blackman and hopefully Jutkiewicz in due course and scream to all who'll listen about the part we've played in development in these guys and how Fir Park is the place to send your emerging talent to on loan. daver
I think he lost some of his appeal when he went to Aberdeen when we were trying to keep him. I think that was down to his club though, rather than it being his choice, as Aberdeen were offering more money.
Ya Bezzer!
I'm old fashioned and reckon you judge a striker on his goals tally at the end of the season (or loan period) BUT if you take away the St. Johnstone match and someone else took the penalty against Hibernian his record goes from 18/10 to 17/6. I think the later figures better reflected his actual quality. He was an average player who had one extraordinary match. I can't see him being good enough to play at Premiership level but of course he could have matured and added to his game since we saw him. Well 4 Europe
You can't take away his hat-trick though, he scored it. Being a striker is about scoring goals, whether you score three goals in a series of three games or in just one game is irrelevant. He did score them and they all count. My memory of Blackman is that he was a quick, powerful centre forward with a decent left peg. Very raw, who's all round game wasn't the best but he wasn't afraid to have go and was capable of turning half chances into goals. Some of his finishes for his goals were excellent; Tynecastle, St.Mirren Park and Mcdiarmid Park in particular stick out. To me his attitude seemed to be the problem. When he first arrived he was out of contract at Blackburn in the summer and looked like he had a point to prove. He then hit 10 goals in his first 15 starts for Motherwell which ever way you slice it is outstanding. Then I gather Blackburn set the wheels in motion to offer him a new contract and he just seemed to lose interest. He'd came and made his point, was getting his bumper new contract and just downed tools. His form in December and January from my recollection was that he was fucking hopeless and that his heart wasn't in it and he was simply going through the motions until he could head back to Blackburn. To me he has all the raw attributes to be a good striker(strong, mobile, good movement. good in the air and a good finisher) hence why he was bought by a Premiership club when he was still in his teens but due to a poor attitude appeared to lose his way. Been very impressive for Sheffield United and although it's a big step up this move isn't as far fetched as some have made out to be, especially with Reading when you see the success they've had with Adam Le Fondre. A million pounds while a shit load of money for Scottish teams isn't that big even for smaller Premiership teams like Reading and they clearly feel Blackman's worth the gamble. As has been pointed out, 1.2 million for Blackman reflects better value for money in my opinion than 6 million plus for Hooper..
Guest
...Still should've buried that chance against Odense.
