Instinctively knew where he was in relation to the goal and when he saw the white of the goals he always had a go and invariably hit the target. As a callow youth I didn't realise how gifted he was, I just took it for granted he would get to the ball first and bury it in the net. His speed over the first 20 yards was lethal and his finishing second to none. Another class player who missed out on caps due to not playing for the OF. Pettigrew was superb, and in all my years of watching Motherwell he is the best striker that I ever saw at Fir Park. McFadden couldn‘t lace the great mans boots.
